Steer well clear unless you want to pay double

I wouldn’t give this company even one star if it was an option. If there are any positive reviews here they must have been written by the company itself. Since our new smart meter was fitted 2 months ago the company are strategically not allowing customers to submit readings by not updating their portal, they are not taking readings from the smart meter as they should. They were forced to put smart meters into homes after breaching regulations and prevented from taking on new customers by offgem, now they are fitting them they are stalling their use so that they can continue to rip off their customers. Each month the estimates are getting higher, on average I should spend £50 a month, they have estimated £103. I would rather pay more somewhere else & have now cancelled my direct debit as the stress is too much. Customer services are rude, when you can get hold of them, and give you misleading information so that you end up paying even more the next month. If you want to keep costs down DO NOT use symbio energy.

Incompetent and infuriating

I am experiencing the same issue it appears that 1000s of others are.
They were using a meter serial number that is not in my properly.

After month and months, phone calls emails back and forth they update the meter serial number, after claiming its not possible for them to do so.

I supply meter readings along with photo evidence every month, through the Web log in as the app is still not fit for purpose and I can't log in after advising them numerous times. Yet they can't provided a revised bill, they have increased my direct debit this month. The meter readings they were going by were higher than the number on my actual meter so I literally have no idea how they think the estimated usage is calculated as it would be a negative number.

Now when I email them I get a bounce back saying admin has blocked my email....

Absolute nightmare to deal with.

Going bust, if you leave you will be risking getting back your credit balance

Overcharged me every month for nearly two years, never reply to messages, only contact me when I cancel direct debit and then make false promises to get me back in line.... They owe me hundreds yet keep saying I owe them, estimates three times use, force new terms and conditions by blocking account and then have cancelled my third complaint when I told them not to... Ombusdman is my next step, then small claims for all the harm they have caused my their malpractice etc. Plus bullying... Nasty , horrible individuals run this scam of a company, shame on the UK for letting them continue fishing for new prey to add to their hugely inflated bank balance. :. No point in leaving though, they are going bust, if I leave I will lose my credit and money, catch 22

Best price around, zero hassle

I read the reviews but switched 6 months ago and am very pleased. I pay on a month direct debit and find the bills are pretty good.

The correction is made next month no never a significant credit or debit. I do put in two meter readings a month which helps.

Have not had to contact but really just what I want, cheap electricity with no frills.

Symbio have been absolutely despicable…

Symbio have been absolutely despicable from the start. We have had to contact them every week for the last 4 months to try and end our contract but they are still taking money from my account. You owe me nearly £500 and it is so upsetting that I am struggling to either get an email response or soemone on the phone to discuss these issues with me. Also, I got told it would be 41£ per month and one month were charged £270 for a tiny 2 bed flat during summer months when we didn’t even use the heating!!!

I need a full refund, all the negative reviews you read are true. Please contact me to resolve this, I have had to come onto a review site in the attempt I might be finally be noticed, not something I wish or want to do.

Avoid

I have consumed £50 of energy including standing charges, yet Symbio wants to charge me £150 for the month and disregard my meter readings.
Customer Service has lots of excuses about "new billing practices", "Winter is coming, so you'll use more" etc etc.
Well, I won't use three times more!
I am changing energy supplier now.

Symbio Energy are not fit to supply the UK Market. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Do not, I repeat do not use this company. They will disregard your meter readings and increase your direct debit month on month. As of today, I am six months in credit. I submitted my meter readings today and they have increased my direct debit by 60% even though the existing credit will cover over six months supply!

They will ask you to jump through all sorts of hoops to try and resolve the situation and then claim they do not have the technology to read .jpg or .pdf documents. They have broken promise after promise to resolve the situation.

It is my belief that they are in financial difficulty and are trying to raise capital by overcharging their customers. Read back through this thread and you will see the same theme, over charging. They are breaking just about every rule.

The sooner they go bust the better and release people from their contracts.

More evidence for my individual complaint to OFGEM.

The single star performance rating is a whole star above this companies true worth; I reported a fault in my meter to Symbio near 7 months ago; it has taken until now for them to correct it; well I say correct, the economy 7 has still not clicked in and the correction of charges over this period of fault is still to be made; over the period since reporting the fault I have sent a further 7 emails & not one responded to; they appear to only respond to a call, that is when you get through.......dismal dismal dismal

This company are the worst Electricity…

This company are the worst Electricity company i have ever been with. Within 2 months of joining they decided to up my £49 per month payment to £89 . I'm currently over £175 in credit and they refuse to refund me.
To make matter worse they have told me winter month payments will be over £100 per month.
I have cancelled my direct debit and have gone back to a big 6 company.
Can't be trusted. They are Thieves !

Happy customer

Unlike most of the negative reviews I have been happy with Symbio. Before I chose them I considered their charging system and was happy to go along with it. This is my third property where I have used them and have not had any difficulties switching, at one point having accounts on two properties my new and old.
Before Symbio I had used several other suppliers and not noticed any real difference between Symbio and the others in the ease of using them online.
I have also had phone conversations with them and found their customer service to be fine.

I agree with previous posts, AWFUL, avoid at all costs. I have the same problem, they have never used an actual reading since opening 5 months ago. They use estimated meter reading despite me sending actual reading every month and they now want to increase my direct debit amount, based on their over estimates, when i am in credit, the customer service is a joke. I think i will pay the £30 exit fee, cut my losses and go elsewhere. I hope OFGEM take the directors of this charade to task.

Mere incompetence?

I uploaded my meter readings with images as normal on 21st Sept. I received an email confirming receipt of those readings and they have been uploaded onto my list of readings on their customer portal. On 27th September I received an email requesting me to submit meter readings closely followed by another saying they were going to increase my Direct Debit payment by almost 70%, despite the fact that they have been overcharging for months and my account is in credit.
Like others who have left reviews here I have been unable to contact Customer Services by phone as they are "busy". I have requested the return of my overpayments and in a spirit of helpfulness I am happy to pop up to Watford and collect it if it helps?
I was also interested to see that this company has posted defamatory comments likely to damage the public reputation of those who have provided negative reviews. All I can say to that is WOW - my claim for damages would be truly eye-watering.

AWFUL

AWFUL. The bills make no sense and they have increased our direct debit even though we owe less than £6 for our use so far. They do not respond to messages and are a nightmare to get through to in by phone. AVOID AT ALL Costs. PS. THEY HAVE APPARENTLY CEASED TRADING FROM 29.09.2021

Awful

why wont this company accept actual readings. I even send photos in but they insist of estimating my usage which is way out. Now they want to up our direct debit when they should be owing me money. Also the app is awful. This is on their website under our mission “ Our primary objective is to save your money and only pay for the electricity you consume;” 😡. UPDATE. called customer services after a 15 min hold I was told to leave a message I advised them I had instigated 9.2.1 of their TOC and they have 72 hours or i cancel my DD. Clock is ticking 1330 27/9/21 - 1330 30/9/21.

House move

We moved from our property and provided the final reading gave them details of the new owner but the are still asking for readings and requesting estimated direct debits as the clam that they can't close the account and that we are still going to receive bills until they close our account. I have asked for the complaint to be escalated and requested a call back from Quality Assurance Team.

If only less stars could be given.
I haven’t had access to my account since the start of my contract. I can submit my readings but that is all.
I’m currently in debit and I can’t change my direct debit or pay an additional sum to sort this out and the issue has been going on for months.
They haven’t responded to any of my requests for help not have they actively managed my account (like every other business has done) to stop me from going too far into debit.
Absolutely appalling (non-existant) customer service.

I managed to get my money back I was…

I managed to get my money back I was owed over £775 by doing a charge back form the bank via the direct debit guarantee, it was so easy and quick I recommend every one does this.
I was being overcharged by about £225 every month and been promised my refund for nearly a month.

Charlatans but you get what you pay for...

You get what you pay for and I believed customer service would be non existent based on all the negative reviews but thought I'd take a chance as my flat is entirely electric and prices elsewhere are all much higher. Just thought I'd send in monthly reads with a photo, pay by DD, and neither get nor expect anything from them. That would have been a fine trade off for the low electric tariff. However I wasnt expecting outright dishonesty: Got an email taking me off the low tarrif onto a high one, so I did the research and found another of their low tarrifs and rang them asking to be put on the tarrif I found online rather than the tarrif they wanted to put me onto. Fine, no problem, I even asked for written proof that this would happen (as I believed they can't be trusted) and received written confirmation that I would not be switched to the ridiculously high tarrif. Low and behold, after checking my account I've indeed been put on that tarrif and when I rang to query, they claimed no knowledge of my previous call or the written confirmation. I've now switched to another company and haven't receieved my refund from them as yet. I'm not holding my breath. A truly ridiculous operation, they must pay out as much money in fines and compensation as they make in offering low tarrifs. And we all know that they are not going to be able to even do that in the current economic climate. My advice would be to pay more for energy from a reputable company who won't blatantly lie or blatantly withhold your money.

Symbio Energy I wouldn't bother

Where to start with Symbio Energy the constant overcharging each month on your account taking large direct debit payments that they shouldn't have even though you've given them monthly meter readings they just ignore them and make up their own.
I have actually moved to another energy company now but they still owe me £161.
I have tried to email them with no response.
I have tried phoning them and they just hang up on me halfway through the conversation I suspect this is because the call centre based in India and half the time they can't even understand what you're talking about.

Terrible company

6 months after moving house and they still havent paid me the £297 they owe. It took them 5 month to even generate the final bill. Now having to go through the process of complaining via financial ombudsman. Awful experience with Symbio
