Deceitful, dishonest and probably illegal. I swapped supplier 2 months ago after being with Symbio for 12 months. Monthly bills always based on greatly inflated estimates despite me providing actual... Mehr ansehen

Absolutely disgusted with this company, hugely inflated meter readings. I’ve been challenging their readings for several months, many many emails, takes weeks for them to get back to you. Promised to... Mehr ansehen

Why is this company billing people now in October when they are in administration. Luckily I have cancelled my direct debit to stop any monies going to Symbio. I understand we should now receive a bill from our new energy provider and not Symbio. Should Symbio be doing this?
I've read a lot of these reviews and I understand people's frustration. However my experience with simbo has been pretty straight forward. Each month on the last day I gave them a reading, they fixed the month before over estimate and over estimated the next. But each month the last estimate was fixed. They were cheap and as a large electric user that's what really counted. Today is my first day with neon reef and I have had emails from both asking for readings, and with luck will get an actual bill inside 30ndays from simbo, if not I won't pay them what I owe. Thankfully I've not had any issues and for one am sad to see my 11p per kwh go.
Hopefully cheap energy will be back in a year or two....
Interesting that Symbio ceased trading and THEN took my DD on 1st October . However that payment has disapeared from my Symbio account . I smell fraud on a large scale
I have managed to complete my switch to neon reef today and symbio have been fine so far and asked for a final meter reading yesterday. My symbio account I calculate to be about £75 in credit so I am wondering :
1. Will I get this £75 from symbio or eon next ?
2. How will I get this as I have cancelled my symbio direct debit
3. Will symbio be able to deduct the £30 switching penalty even though they have ceased to trade.
Any advice from other reviewers?
I’m saddened to see symbio go under .. I feel for all the Symbio staff..
I think they had a lot stacked against them .. the surge of Covid in India.. new entrant to the market .. difficult business model for customers to grasp (in terms of estimates and advanced reconciled billing).. having then to consider revising business model.. and then to top it all off the entire explosion of wholesale energy prices which are taking down many companies with many more to follow I fear ..
The best provider I can currently find (I am a serial switcher) is significantly more expensive than symbio were (wanting 16.5p/kWh) .. plus the company wants to average my yearly consumption (around 4000kwh) into 6 monthly payments of average monthly cost + 33% .. followed by 6 monthly payments of average monthly cost - 33%
Obviously if they survive the next six months I stand to see a benefit .. if not I’ll have paid around 22p/kwh.. !!
Either way think the whole energy market vulnerable and a mess now.
Absolute shambles....hugely inflated estimated bills, even when you provide readings. Horrible customer service...couldn't even switch as they objected due to over egged monthly estimates. So glad to see the back of them.
A basket case of an organisation. Sucked in with low tariffs but then increased beyond reason. I switched provider, but no final bill within 6 weeks, then they tried to sue me using money claim on-line. What they forgot was that they owed me money for failing to provide a final bill.
Unpleasant, disorganised and deceitful come to mind
So, I have been checking out reviews on this website for a possible new electricity supplier now that Symbio have exited the market. All of the cheapest ones have loads of 1-star negative reviews!
If I was a cynical man I would think that there is some kind of negative review campaign against the cheaper suppliers.
Hi Johnny H
sorry Trustpilot made me wait to post again [probably normal]
eonnext dot com/tariffs
scrolldown to where it says 'check out our range of tarrifs and follow link
the flex [variable] tarrifs will give you a guide as they are likely to be close to the price cap under the current circumstances I think
unless you are in same geographic area to me your rate will be different to mine
as others have said, around 20/21p a unit depending on where you are
it's interesting/depressing to see how high their 2 year fixed rates are - price cap will be going up again in march 22 I reckon and not comming down for 'a while'
Sadly my views only echo those of so many others. we had used them previously without issue then suddenly a few months ago they started taking huge ever increasing DD amounts based on estimated readings. We submitted actuals with photos and these were ignored. Even our last one for September was ignored despite them asking for it. we estimate an overcharge to date of 3800kwh or £680. We sadly have no record of this with them other than our readings versus those on their bills and they still tried to take a DD for October's estimated (again ) bill. We have cancelled our DD now. I am horrified that these people were allowed to run a business like this for so long and that proper safeguards were not in place to protect consumers. We have been extremely stressed and thank goodness it was not my parents involved the experience would have probably killed them with worry. As it is we can only hope we have some chance with the switch that all this comes to light and we get something back. The fact we will now pay more is a shame and bad timing but on the other hand if we can deal with a more professional team it will still be better. I live in hope.
I hope you are wrong Martin about the deemed rate we will be getting with Eon Next. The rates you are quoting are for a 2 year fixed rate. I think we will be paying 20.68 p/kWh and a standing charge of 24.11p per day. But I may not be right as this hasn't been confirmed to me yet.
I will certainly be paying much, much more than I was with Symbio. Although I didn't feel the way they operated was the best, their electricity prices certainly were. I for one am sorry Symbio have gone
Hi ‘The Dude’…
do you you know yet what the tarrifs actually are ??..
there has been mention of the ‘price cap’ but that is meaningless I feel unless you are on a ‘dual fuel’ contract and you are an ‘average user’…
very vague about what this means in terms of p/kwh for either electric or gas (gas also now being measured in kwh rather than therms)…
Either way there does seem to be nothing definitive anywhere that says what a ‘capped tarrif’ is in p/kwh…
Well not that I can find anywhere, anyway!!??
good riddance- this company was overcharging and preventing people from leaving by objecting to the switch becuase of their 'estimated' overdue amounts, when ironically they've now folded owing Ofgem over £1.2m in payments.. Another conservative scandal with Ofgem sitting on their hands and doing NOTHING to support individual consumers. Cancel your DD and wait for the new supplier to contact you, any other supplier is better than Symbio
CANCEL YOUR DIRECT DEBITS.
Sybio Energy are attempting to bill me for October despite the fact they have been forced to cease trading and the account has moved to EON with effect from 3rd October.
The advice on the OFGEN website is that you can cancel your direct debits.
Curiously they reduced their massive over-estimated bill for October to a less reidiculous, but still excessive amount.
Hi Tim, I note you asked if Symbio were lying about supplying "100% renewable energy". In fact, almost all companies that say this are technically lying. Most companies do not produce or distribute anything at all, they are just billing services. Even if they do produce energy, what they actually mean is that they buy "off-set credits" in lieu of their fossil fuels. Perfectly legal but are merely promises of intent to eg plant some trees somewhere, sometime. These companies are not "green" at all. As far as I know, only companies like EDF, who produce electricity from nuclear power and Octopus Energy, who truly do source wind, solar and wave energy, are actually green. Which? and Radio4 You and Yours have done articles on this.
I have moved to another place and as you would do took a picture of the meter reading and reported the same say to them. It was begining of July. Now we are in October and they still haven`t provided the final bill. The best part they have charged my account every month the triple amount what I would use. They try to find excuses not to pay me back the money. Unbelievable. Avoid them.
Symbio have sent me two bills for September usage totalling £106.00 when I got a smart meter that says £45.00 usage cancelled direct debit not paying for what I have not used.
Symbio have gone bust, just emailed me to say bill for electric provided until the 31St October will be £25 but will be taking £67 instead. Why do you need to take a surplus when you have gone bust and you won't be providing me with electric? Very strange. Another reason why there billing was very confusing.
I have today received a reconciled bill from Symbio, yes the company are now using my actual usage and have adjusted the units used, so at the end of September I am still in credit. This company have included an estimate for October to be paid by 8th October, as they ceased trading at the end of September I have no intention of paying this bill. I have cancelled my direct debits and wait for hear from my new supplier.
Although Symbio Energy had a completely inexplicable billing system which even its on staff didn't understand, there is no doubt that they offered the lowest electricity prices available. But this leads me the the real point - they claimed their electricity was 100% from renewable sources, much of it owned by them. Since those sources do not use gas, why have they gone bust - or were they lying to us all along?? Noone seems to be asking this...
