Avoid

I took my car to a BMW Approved Dealer expecting professional, competent service. What I received instead was shockingly poor workmanship and an equally dreadful complaint experience.

The repair they carried out was unsafe — and not in some subtle, technical way. It was immediately obvious. The fact that this passed through their technicians and quality checks without being noticed is deeply concerning. For a brand that trades on precision engineering and premium standards, this was unacceptable.

When I raised the issue, the complaint process was just as disappointing. There was no urgency, no accountability, and no sense that customer safety was being taken seriously. I was left chasing responses and feeling like an inconvenience rather than a customer who had been put at risk.

There are very few alternative BMW service options in this area, which makes this even more frustrating. Sadly, this experience has made me seriously reconsider owning another BMW — not because of the cars themselves, but because of the substandard and careless service backing them.

I would strongly advise others to think carefully before trusting this dealership with their vehicle.

Worst salesman (Derwin) I have ever experienced

Horrible experience just now. Came to look at an X5 and DERWIN who was in the entrance on arrival couldn’t have been less interested if he tried. No X5 in the showroom so asked if he had any we could look at outside, ‘NO’was the response. How about the one parked out front we asked. He got the keys reluctantly, knew next to nothing about the car and when I asked if I could test drive he said NO. I’m getting an X5 through work and he essentially told me to go through our agent to test drive, why? I’m standing in front of you and you’re doing absolutely nothing at this moment in time. Land Rover and Mercedes couldn’t be happier to help me and have test driven a number of their cars.
My experience just now completely puts me off getting a BMW. £82,000 just walked away.
Worst experience I have ever had. An experience that should be exciting. Get rid of the pinstriped, miserable salesman who made 2 women feel incredibly unwelcome.

AVOID this dealership, go to Leeds or York.

terrible customer care on approved used

I purchased a BMW Approved Used vehicle that was delivered with visible paint defects and had to be returned immediately. It was redelivered days later with the same issues still present, and I was expected to accept and assess the car in poor light. I was also asked to complete insurance and registration before I had even inspected the vehicle and was not given a clear option to reject when concerns were raised.
Within days of driving, the car developed an engine fault requiring repair, and further electrical issues have since arisen. An authorised BMW bodyshop has confirmed the paintwork condition would not meet Approved Used standards.
Communication and customer care throughout have been poor, with delays, conflicting information, and a lack of accountability. The matter is now with the Motor Ombudsman.
Very disappointing experience from a main dealership and not what I expected from a BMW Approved Used purchase.

Good Customer Service

I took my X1 in for a service and the experience with Harrogae BMW from start to finish was excellent. Until recently I have always used BMW Stratstone Leeds but their customer service and accessibility was extremely poor in every respect but the experience with the Harrogate team far exceeded the one provided by their Leeds counterpart. Harrogate kept me up-to-date on progress and even answered the telephone promptly. I have been waiting over 20 minutes on several occasions for the Service department in Leeds to answer the phone. Tasha and Jay were both friendly and welcoming.

Service, warranty

I have just had my BMW in for a warranty repair and major service and the quality of the work and customer relations was superb from start to finish. I was assisted by Tasha, and mainly by a charming and genuinely helpful sales guy with a pony tail, beard and glasses (sorry I have forgotten the name) who provided the sort of service one always likes to receive but rarely does nowadays. I was kept informed throughout the process, the courtesy car process was seamless and of high quality, the work undertaken by BMW was excellent and when they undertook a service by accident, they did the right and proper thing and subsumed the cost without charging me. BMWs are superb cars, I have dealt with Stratstone Harrogate for a number of years and, to be fair, i have always encountered the same quality of service from them, and I wouldn’t hesitate to use them/purchase from them again.

Stratstone BMW brake fluid service

Took my car for a brake fluid service at Stratstone BMW Harrogate. Although I had to book the appointment 5 weeks in advance due to availability their service was excellent from the after sales staff. My car was ready earlier than anticipated and they could have not been any more friendly, polite or helpful.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

AVOID! Should have gone to Leeds! Car went in for a re-call, came back with a further problem, technician said he couldn’t find the problem, had to go back myself to show them, only took me to get to the end of the BMW garage entrance to show noise they couldn’t find! Don’t think they know what they are doing?!

Absolutely disgusted with the service and threats made by their Service manager. Very unprofessional, left me and my young family without a vehicle, only concerned about getting their courtesy car back, no consideration for the customer. They still have my car with problems and are trying to runaway from helping me. Terrible experience!!

It's with sadness I write this review

It's with sadness I write this review. I took my car in for a brake service with no issues at all about a month ago. After a check all round d I was advised to have rear pads done along with works on athe e brake which meant the price went from £155 to just under £600. I agreed to the work. So the issue began when my fiancé picked the car up and called me to say there is a loud sqealing noise from the car. I reported this straight away to the garage who said please bring the car back. As my partner was at home which is round the corner I said I can bring the car back at a more suitable time. So after no driving the car and being able to take it today. I was told I had to pay an extra £180 for diagnosis. But the issue has directly.been caused by the work. So I refused to pay for an issue caused by the garage. Someone eveve reported my partner had drive with the handbrake on which is a total lie as she had only spoken to David?! Now I'm left with an issue caused by BMW Harrogate who I feel now are just here to get as much out if you as possible. Very disheartened about the situation they have left me in. I now have to look at options in getting my money back for the work done and getting said issue fixed. Handled poorly by the service manager who at first gave a good impression. If you use them be wary of the upsell they even use your data on services to cold call to upsell service plans and I can only Imagine the script they use and David even said it is a poor way of going about things. I'm so disappointed after using the garage for many years.

I cannot praise the team at Stratstone…

I cannot praise the team at Stratstone BMW Harrogate highly enough and I delighted with my recent purchase of used 420i gran coupe. The car was presented in mint condition and the process of buying and trading in my old car was very smooth and efficient. Shak, who I dealt with, is very professional, knowledgeable and helpful. All aspects of my buying experience with the team were first class. Every part of my contact, be it phone calls, emails and meeting with Shak, to seeing David in the showroom, and being introduced to Ben after purchasing the car, left me with a lasting favourable and positive impression of the dealership.
