I booked an appointment for today. Upon arrival, I kid you not, this was the entire interaction, verbatim:
_Did you bring all your documents?
_Uhm, I think so? Could you help me double check it?
_Here (gives me a business card), email everything to us. If you have anything paper, put it here (gives me an envelope and a form).
And he walked away.
WHY would I pay $169 CAD for an in-person appointment, only to be told to email my documents and be done with it?
This makes absolutely no sense.
Impassable pop up forces increases costs
The software has a end pop up you CANNOT get past without accepting the unnecessary upgrade and paying more. If you choose not to upgrade it reroutes you over and over back to pay and netfile. This is a shifty and shady tactic, after using their services for over a decade I will NOT be back.

Instant Refund denied if in Consumer Proposal
This just an alert if you are desiring the Instant Tax Refund offer that H&R Block offers. Their system doesnt permit a client to obtain the Instant Cash Back Refund if you are in a Consumer Proposal. Their system sees "insolvency" as a stumbling block even though its not a bankruptcy. You can be in good standing with your consumer proposal and owe no taxes and all refunds will come directly to you. But H&R Block still views you as a high risk . This of course is grossly unfair! Im hoping with this post that H&R Block Corporate Headquarters can update their policies in their website and to alert all branches to at least advise their current and future clients of this condition so that no one will have wasted time and energy thinking all is ok with the refund. Only to find out in the end its denied! Thank you

They sent a t4 while missing numerous boxes that cost me thousands dollars in last year's return. They then tried to turn it on me. I called CRA and they advised that H&R Block was responsible for this. It will be a tax lawyer next. AVOID.

In my entire life I have had my personal income taxes done by someone else exactly once. I used H&R Block, and they screwed it up by filing a Section 216 tax return late, costing my thousands. H&R Block sucks!
Decline in Professional Standards – Unacceptable Customer Service

I’m extremely disappointed with the experience I had today with one of your staff members. I called at 1:27 p.m. to speak with an accountant. The person who answered was an Indian guy confirmed my phone number he said he wrote it down and said he would call me back in five minutes. 15 minutes passed no call. When I phoned again, he apologized and asked for another 5–10 minutes, saying he was busy with another client.
After another wait, he called back about 10 minutes later, asking for my number again the same one he had already confirmed earlier. When I reminded him, he admitted, “I’ll be honest, I didn’t write it down; I was busy.” That’s not honesty that’s negligence. This kind of carelessness and lack of accountability represents exactly why customer service in Canada is declining.
I’ve been an H&R Block customer for over 10 years, and I can say without hesitation that the level of professionalism has dropped significantly. It’s unfortunate to see reputable companies allowing uncommitted employees to represent their name and damage public trust.
I expect this matter to be reviewed seriously, with disciplinary action taken and compensation provided for the inconvenience. I also intend to share my experience publicly once it’s resolved, not to attack, but to push for higher service standards in this country because Canada deserves better than this.
FYI, I already reported this incident to H&R customer care department. Once the case closed I will publish a video with resolution to speak about the service and actions they took against the individual on my TikTok channel where 5 million viewers per video are watching.

I had an issue with my taxes not properly being filed by Cedar Point, Barrie location. I booked to refile at Monarch Dr. Orillia ONT. There the ladies Michelle & Dorothy quickly resolved my problem and re-filed my papers on the spot. They were very helpful.

The franchise owner of 7 offices in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta asked his employees to defraud EI by working for him and collecting EI but not reporting the employment. H&R Head Office was made aware of this request with the supporting documents and to date has not acted on it. They’re allowing him to continue to operate without sanction.
If the franchise owner is prepared to defraud EI, what will he do with YOUR private information? H&R Block is complicit in these actions as they allow him to continue to operate.
All the above is verifiable with the documents that were sent to my collègue and I before we were terminated for refusing to take part in the scheme that he proposed.

H and R Block made a mistake
H and R Block has been doing my taxes for years, they've always done a great job. This year they forgot to submit my taxes when they were done April 30th and they were paid for. So now I will miss my child tax and gst payment because of their mistake. I called customer service because I could see nothing on my CRA account, they told me I had to call my local H&R Block and get my confirmation number so I could call CRA and see why it wasn't done. I called them and they said they would look into it but it doesn't look like it was filed, I said so my taxes aren't done? And they said they'd call me back. They never did call me back and instead later that day I finally get an email from CRA saying my taxes were done.
My experience with H&R Block has been abysmal. Never again
My experience with H&R Block has been disappointing, especially considering this issue has stemmed from a 2021 tax assessment.
My wife and I used their tax filing services and opted for a product where they advance your
tax refund up front, and then receive the actual refund from the CRA. We paid a fee for this service and
signed an agreement stating we’d be responsible for any shortfall if the CRA didn’t pay the full amount.
Unfortunately, there was a discrepancy with the CRA caused by H&R Block's understanding of the tax
rules. Despite the fact that everything was filed under the guidance and direction of their agent, H&R
Block demanded that I be liable for the discrepancy between their assessment and the CRA's
assessment. I tried to compromise, not to avoid responsibility, but to at least receive a refund for the
service fee, since the core issue stemmed from how H&R Block software assessed our taxes. I was
refused.
To me, this is poor customer service. If I’m following your agent’s advice and paying for professional
assistance, I expect that advice to be sound, and if there’s a mistake, I expect some accountability, not
just a demand for more money.
I would advise others to use a different firm for any tax preparation or financial services. I regret trusting
H&R Block with our taxes.

Absolute Garbage Service
I would give zero stars if I could.
First of all, the price was absolutely ridiculous - I was charged $200 because I have one investment.
Even worse: my taxes were done incorrectly. I was shown what my refund would be, and then failed to receive the same amount. I've tried reaching out to the branch and company, to which I've been completely ignored (surprise, surprise).
Avoid at all costs.
The online remote tax agent
The online remote tax agent, Haifa Bouwazra, at H&R block was terrible. Avoid. Didn't read documents clearly and had extremely broken English, making it impossible to fix errors. The tax return clearly wasn't done properly and then he got quite rude. The line for having the taxes done was also extremely long: was bumped from one agent to another until the deadline had passed and had to pay the late fee. Won't be going back to HR Block.
