H&R Block Tax Software - Every year there are mistakes and…
Every year there are mistakes and errors in this software program.
1) This time 2026, there an Ai option to get help, but it is extremely dumb and limited, and cannot even answer questions about the tax form itself, fortunately I got answers from an Ai outside of this tax program.
I don't want to waste paper and ink when printing additional copies of Official Return, when I do not want the Filing Instructions page. Having to choose all of the forms manually when choosing Option, is a huge waste of time. You do not allow us to disable printing the Filing instructions page. This is ridiculous, and wasteful of ink and paper.
Same issue when printing Fed or State. Get some common sense please, give users a choice.
Once again you they are also wasting my time also by having to fill out name, e-mail and phone number for this feedback, not just once, but every time I send feedback from an option inside the tax program.
Also, for the State Form I have to fill out Drivers License information, in spite of the fact this was also filled out in the Federal Form.
It seems that no one with any common sense has tested this program and made it convenient, easy, and less frustrating to use.
I also found it extremely disappointing that when I needed to e-file an extension, H&R Block wanted to charge me $19.95, when I had already paid for the software which includes e-filing. This is just one more example of the incredible greed that too many companies practice.
There are other problems too for which I sent feedback, but too many for me to remember.
Keep in mind that both H&R Block and Intuit (TaxCut) have sent tons of lobbyists to Congress to force the IRS from offering free Tax Filing software, tested in previous years and found very successful for people to use. The current corrupt administration and members of Congress have now made the IRS completely stop offering the Free Tax Preparation Software. God help us!

Avoid H&R Block. I have experienced a staggering level of incompetence and dishonesty at every level that has cost me thousands of dollars.
• The Lies: Employees lied about attempting contact just to close my case. One even falsely claimed I needed to buy extra "Peace of Mind" protection just to qualify for their standard Accuracy Guarantee. That is a predatory lie.
• The "Experts": My preparer (an Enrolled Agent) missed a 5-figure deduction because he was too busy asking me for personal career advice for his family. He was sloppy, unprofessional, and lacked basic tax knowledge.
• The Runaround: Management doesn't even seem to understand their own 100% Accuracy and Maximum Refund guarantees. They are intentionally evasive to avoid paying out for their own mistakes.
They are banking on you not noticing their errors. If you use them, get your work double-checked. Better yet, save your money and go elsewhere. I’m reporting them to the state Tax Boards.
I had a good experience with H&R Block…
I had a good experience with H&R Block overall. The office space was a bit small, which made it feel a little cramped, but it wasn’t a major issue. What really stood out was the staff—they were friendly, welcoming, and easy to work with. They made the whole process feel smooth and stress-free. Most importantly, they got my taxes done as quickly as possible without sacrificing quality. I’d definitely consider using their services again.
Time to look elsewhere
I have used H&R Block Expat for the past 15 years, and H&R Block before that. Until this year, I had been satisfied with the service.
The main issue was their website. It failed to notify me of a pending email, and it still appears unreliable. There was a problem submitting my return on 10 April, but I was unaware of it because I never received any notification.
On 15 April, when I noticed the tax payment had not been withdrawn from my account, I logged in to investigate and only then discovered the message from H&R Block.
I got the issue corrected was assured my return would still be filed on 15 April. It is now 20 April, and the return still has not been filed.
I managed to find a customer service phone number online. It was not readily available. I see why, as it was absolutely useless. The best they could do was email my tax advisor, which I had already been doing each day.
After 15 years as a customer, this experience has been disappointing. Between the unreliable website, unnecessary stress, and late filing — I see little justification for paying more than $700 for this service again next year.
Cannot call office and they do not call back
Cannot call office. Have all documents in labeled pockets in folde, K-1s, estimates, 1099s,,,, was scanned into their system wiuthout telling me prematurly. Brought updated dfocyments. Now have dyplicates. Which is correct?
I have used H&R Block for the past…
I have used H&R Block for the past couple of years, so I am writing this as a returning customer, not someone leaving a complaint after one bad experience. Unfortunately, this year was extremely disappointing, and my whole family had issues with H&R Block’s service.
I paid for Tax Pro Review, but the tax professional reviewed my return incorrectly. H&R Block showed that I owed around 2,000 dollars, and I immediately felt that some of the numbers looked wrong, especially in the rental property section of my return. I raised my concerns through the online system, but the tax pro never responded.
Because I was close to the filing deadline and under a lot of pressure, I contacted customer service. The first representative I spoke with was kind and clearly told me multiple times that I would be eligible for a refund if I was not satisfied, if the tax pro failed to respond by April 15, and if the return was incorrect. She reassured me and said she added a note to my account.
A few hours later, I called back because I was still under a time crunch and needed to cancel so I could hire another accountant. The second representative was polite, but the process took far longer than it should have. I was repeatedly told that a supervisor was unavailable and that I would need to be transferred to another department. After I explained that I did not want to be transferred just to receive the same answer again, I was finally placed on hold, and a supervisor suddenly became available. After all of that, they did refund me.
I then hired an independent accountant for 90 dollars, and my final tax bill was under 300 dollars total, around 175 federal and 75 for Connecticut. This was a dramatic difference from the approximately 2,000 dollars H&R Block had calculated. That kind of discrepancy is not minor and should not happen in a paid professional review.
My brother also had a poor experience this year. He paid high fees, received very little communication, and had to follow up himself just to confirm his return was actually being worked on. His taxes were not completed until April 14, which left him almost no time to review the return, ask questions, or request corrections before the filing deadline. He also felt that parts of his return may have been incorrect, but due to the timing, he felt pressured to move forward anyway.
This year, H&R Block was expensive, slow, unresponsive, and not reliable. For the prices being charged, the level of service and accuracy should be much better. My family will not be using H&R Block again.
The price was a huge factor in this…
The price was a huge factor in this rating. While the lady was kind and knowledgeable, she told me that her company seems to overcharge seniors and people on disability who can’t afford to pay and then are forced to pay after the work is done. If you don’t pay, the IRS can fine you. This was what I was told!! I left in fear and 350.00 less in my full disability bank account which leaves me with 1400.00 to pay rent-800.00, car insurance-150.00, phone bill-120.00, credit card consolidation-250.00 and 80.00 for groceries, PB and J and Ramen noodles this month I guess. Hope I can get some food from the food shelter😢🥺🥺😢😭.
It’s so hard to live on what I get with my permanent total disability! I worked for almost 38 years and paid my taxes every year!! I’m so glad I did that. ☹️☹️☹️

A Horrible Option for Taxpayers
I was hoping to make the jump away from using Turbotax for over a decade because of manipulative upselling and horrendous customer services. I thought H&R Block would be a better alterative, but they were equally as bad. The opted me in to their premium services, and erased all my data when I downgraded. No customer service to assist, only a message tree that rudely hangs up on you when you need them the most. These folks do nothing to earn your business and we deserve better.
Always ask the price before using H and R block
I had a tax consultant file my taxes this year and I was astonished with the cost. My return was not that complicated (no businesses, large assets, etc). I am just a student and I was charged $450 to do my returns. The price was never communicated to be before starting the process so I was blindsided after the filing was complete and had no choice but to pay it since my taxes were already filed. In addition, my tax preparer was unsure of what she was doing and had to ask her college for help numerous times throughout the process.
I had a good representative today
I saw a representative named Tabitha. Before I begin my review, I'm sorry to read some of the other reviews had such a bad experience. My representative was very professional, understanding, asked before picking specific deductions and went over their reasoning before electing me for anything, did all the sell points she's supposed to do per company policy, consistently gave her clientelle a chuckle from what I could tell, and helped me get this year on task. Her knowledge included some of the various changes to how the IRS operates, which at this time is a notable mess, in my opinion.
Avoiding the wall of politics, I more want to notate that our previous years we'd used a different service and had more of a negative experience akin to what some of the lower star reviews are on here, including one service's backend dropping our Federal Withholding. As many of you who might read this can guess - that went pretty badly. I'm very hopeful this year goes better.
Worst tax software I've ever used
Worst tax software I've ever used in over 30 years. The Deluxe+State lacked the ability to process simple K-1 partnership forms. The software also incorrectly entered my estimated tax payments, and when I entered the correct numbers using the override, I was informed electronic filing could not occur. The state return did not record my estimated payments correctly, and wanted $20 to file electronically. I sent a letter demanding my money refunded. Will never use H&R Block tax software again.
H&R Block Deluxe Federal+State Tax Software
I was disappointed in almost every way with H&R Block's Deluxe Federal+State software. One plus was that it would still run on Windows 10 while Turbotax Deluxe will not. It did make it easier to report QCDs (Qualified Charitable Contributions). And it did import Turbotax 2024 data. In almost every other way, compared to Turbotax Deluxe, it is primitive and tedious to use. I asked it to print out supporting forms. It estimated 15 pages would print. Instead, over 150 pages printed out. Next year, I will go back to Turbotax.
They Insist You Sign Your Return Without Ever Reviewing It
Absolutely terrible!
I paid for HR Bolock's 'Pro' service. Their online system stated that I needed a pro to review my documentation because of certain complexities with my taxes. Then the online system asked me to sign my return before either I or the pro could review anything. That's simply crazy and probably a form of malpractice.
So I asked for help, both online via chat and via their phone support service. After a few escalations, I finally got a chat agent to give me a case number with a promise that someone would get back to me within 5 days. No one got back to me.
I called the support number again a week later. I validated my identify through their IVR and reached an agent. I immediately gave the agent, Aaron, my open case number. He could not find it and simply asked me how he can help. I re-iterated that I have an open case that is overdue. The agent then asked me to verify my identity by providing the exact same information I gave the H&R Block IVR. Aaron acknowledged that the system does not provide any confirmation of my identity, despite the requirement that I confirm my identity before I was allowed to speak with him. He could not explain why I needed to do everything twice. He then left me on hold for quite some time and did finally find my case number.
Aaron, the agent, then got back on the line and told me I needed to sign the returns before they can be shared with a pro. I asked Aaron if it was H&R Block's policy to ask customers to sign documents they have not seen or know what they contain. He said that H&R Block support agents do not have the knowledge to answer that question. I asked Aaron to give me a way to contact someone who can answer the question and who might be able to allow me and the pro to review the draft returns without signing them. Aaron put me on an extended hold to connect me with someone else.
He sent me to H&R Block's Office Product Support Number. I noted that my concern was specific to the online product and its requirement that I sign an unseen return. Aaron said it was a 'tax' question and that tax questions should go to the Office Product Support team.
I called the Office Product Support line. The agent, Vanessa, listened to my concern about signing an unseen and unreviewed tax return and immediately sent me to the DIY department. I was given an automated response that I would get someone to pick up in about 10 minutes. I then waited about 5-6 minutes and received an update that someone will pick up in about 10 minutes.
Meralin from DYI support did pick up the line after about 17 minutes. She informed me that even though the webpage says (1) "It’s time to sign your return" and (2) the page explains that this is the only time I will be signing my return and will not need my e-signature number unless I need to amend something next year, that I am not actually signing my return. Meralin explained that I am only 'approving the return for pro review'. She then said I need to e-sign to get my return reviewed.
Since that was the opposite of what the webpage actually said, I explained that I would follow her instructions if they provided a writing confirmed that e-signing at this stage did not indicate my approval of the unseen return. She could not provide any confirmation that e-signing my return is anything other than truly signing a final return.
I then was transferred to Jacob, a supervisor. He terrible. He relayed that his experience with another company's tax service required an e-signature prior to professional review and filing. All that told me is that H&R Block supervisors prefer other tax preparation services. He then said I needed to e-sign the return now because the status map shows that the next step is pro review and I will not progress without e-signing. I asked for a written confirmation that my return will not be filed without pro review and my final review of the tax forms. He refused to provide that. I asked if he or anyone else in the call center has the ability to send emails to customers. Jacob said they did have that ability, but they would not send me anything to address my concern.
Jacob then suggested I go to a brick and mortar H&R Block store to address my concerns. I asked if he knew if the store could provide something in writing to confirm my e-signing at this stage does not mean I am approving my unseen return. He said he didn't know. In effect, he just wanted to shuffle me off to make this someone else's problem.
Jacob then returned to his explanation that e-signing my return was just a step to getting the return reviewed for accuracy and completeness. Said differently, the agent said "'trust me' just sign the return - it really doesn't count".
Continued Bad Service
I have and continue to receive such bad service from H&R Block. My taxes were filed incorrectly, and I need to submit an amended return. I've been waiting months and months for any level of support. I paid for the extra support to review and file my taxes, and they were blatantly done incorrectly after seeking advice from the Taxpayers Support. This has caused a significant financial strain on me as I'm waiting for my refund. This service isn't worth it and I would recommend going elsewhere. You won't receive the help you need, and it will only create more headaches for you!
A miserable user interface
I've used H&R BLock Deluxe software for many years, and I mostly love it. This year I had to switch to the Business package because I needed Form 1041 for a Trust, and that software is the worst! The interface is totally different, and the "Help" assist does very little. I called customer service twice with questions, got passed on to other assistants who finally 'escalated' my case and promised a call-back from an expert, but never got that callback either time. It's like HR Block gave up on this package years ago. The only way I was able to survive is by have Gemini's AI lead me line by line through the program, and then I uploaded screen shots of my forms for advice from Gemini (which it did quite well).
We received copies of someone else's taxes!!
We have been coming to this H & R Block for years and Gail has been doing our taxes. Last year, we needed copies of our taxes so we went into our files. To our surprise, we didn't have a copy of our taxes, we had someone else's!!! We were shocked. ALL of someone's personal tax information in our hands. And then we realized someone could also have ours. So we immediately called very concerned. I spoke with a Supervisor, Julie, who was apologetic but assured me nobody else had my taxes, and at the same time, she was more concerned about me returning the other taxes, which I did. How she could be so sure my taxes didn't end up in the wrong hands was beyond me. Obviously Gail took the wrong taxes off the printer, leaving our taxes behind and it just wasn't discovered from "someone's" files yet. We weren't given an acceptable answer to leave us comfortable in this situation. We researched that there really isn't any liability, which is insane. All she offered was a discount off our next filing. Obviously they lost a loyal client. Just beware and make sure you receive YOUR taxes.
Horrible place incompetent Selden NY
Horrible place Selden NY. Incompetent people screwed up my families taxes. I wouldn't go here if it was for free. With many other tax agencies around on Google this place is in the cesspool forever. I heard the same concerns about their other locations.
Worse than TurboTax and JUST AS SHADY…
Worse than TurboTax and JUST AS SHADY AND SCAMMY.
Updated Website Totally Sucks
I used H&R Online for many years in past (2002-2022) and it was fine. I tried coming back yesterday and now it is downright horrible. Not intuitive at all. I tried to ask a simple question about using the revamped software and spent over 2 hours trying to get an answer to no avail. When I signed up they suggested i b pay $39.99 for a time limited $89.99 value deal., which I did. When I proceeded to do my Federal return they said i needed the $70.00 version to get the forms I needed. I spent another hour trying to figure out how to ask if the $70 would be in addition to the $39.99 that I already signed up for. I could not figure out how to find this out, so I googled for H&R phone number. When I called and explained the trouble I was having the person told me to wait for a couple minutes on hold. I waited for over 20 minutes before deciding to hang up and be done with this nonsense forever.
H&R Tax Prep Courses--DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
H&R Tax Prep Courses--what a junk company with the worst ever online courses. There is no support, and the content does not keep up with your progress. The app "Inkling" does not show any training courses that one signed up for. They know their product is faulty, so they designed their refund policy to prevent anyone from receiving a penny after signing up. Do NOT Waste Your money on this junk!
