£9 for fitting two windscreen wipers that took 20 seconds

My wife was charged £9 for fitting two windscreen wipers that took the cashier 20 seconds to fit. Rip-off or what!

My wife bought a pair of windscreen wipers for £28.48 and asked if they could be fitted as she had had a problem once before with getting them round the wrong way.

"No problem" said the cashier without mentioning any fitting price. It too him about 10 seconds to fit each one as they just clip on, and so the cashier was out of the shop for a total of less than 45 seconds. When she checked the bill she had been charges £9 for fitting!

Ordered new car speakers online and…

Ordered new car speakers online and accepted there free fitting advisory appointment. I was promptly emailed and refunded for the item without explanation. I popped down to the shop and was told that there branch dosn't fit speakers. I was told East Kilbride offer that service. Drove to the store and asked for help and i was told by a rather helpful lady that they no longer offer fitting services for stereo units and speakers. I asked why this was offered online and why is there point of sale all over the store advertising this service. Poor show misleading customers with false advertising

Limited knowledge

I ordered a Pendleton Somerby eBike online in February, after visiting the store in Chippenham to view and be certain it was for me. Service was great as I was about to spend nearly £1000.
Was told that I had to actually do the ordering for delivery to my home. No biggie.
The bike arrived ready built and I love it.
However - when I charged the battery, the charger was obviously not happy as it was flashing red/green throughout the process and became very hot; never showed the steady green light.
First trip back to Halfords - they kept the battery and charger for a day and said it was fine.
As battery was charged, it was another 3 weeks before it needed charging again
Same issue
Back to the store - this time I had video of the charger lights.
Technician agreed charger was not working properly and gave me one from their workshop - no offer of warranty exchange.
Got home, plugged it in.... same problem.
This tells me it's more likely to be the battery but what do I know.
This will require another trip back to store with the battery and charger.
I am really not happy that I was a) told everything was fine the first time when I took battery and charger back and b) to be fobbed off with used goods instead of being offered replacement under warranty.
Do I have to wait until there is a fire in my home before anything is done??
I realise I have probably just been unlucky with the charger/battery but, come on Halfords..... you boast about being the best for bikes.
Don't even get me started on the appalling Customer Call Centre!!!
I now have a battle on my hands to get this sorted

Halford slammed the brakes on my order!

I ordered a set of bicycle brake disks Thursday night before 20:00 and paid a next door premium expecting next day delivery for Friday as I was working from home and got an email confirming the same. Friday got an email letting me know the order was being prepared for collection. Phoned Halfords to complain and they arranged refund of premium courier fee and assured me it would be delivered on Monday without fail. Monday arrived, no attempt to make delivery no note posted, not left with neighbours. Went to change date and all of a sudden new date instantly, doubt it even left the depot. It worth noting Halfords want signed for so you have to be in. I have asked for compensation,as I asked for premium delivery and paid over the odds for the product assuming next day. Let's see what happens, but very poor.

Booked and paid for 2 new tyres on 16/3/2026 at Halfords polloshaws Glasgow got appointment for 22/3/2026 @ 10.30am recieved 4 reminders too make sure I would be attending so when I attended on 22/3/2026 @ 10.30pm guess what 🤔 the place was shut it does not open on a Sunday so I wasted my time and paid in full for this phoned on Monday too be told it wasn’t their fault it was the online booking division of Halfords fault as they knew it would be closed so cancelled the order only too recieve a call too find out if I wish too rebook 😂😂😂absolute disaster of a company so telling anyone who is booking with this shambles of a company AVOID AVOID AVOID

I had an incredibly distreDangerous technical incompetence and appalling customer service at St Albans branchssing…

I had an incredibly distressing experience at the Halfords St Albans branch regarding a simple battery replacement.

1. System Failure & Product Misguidance:
I used the Halfords website to match a battery to my registration and booked a 1-hour fitting. Upon arrival, the technician told me the website-recommended battery was incorrect. It is deeply concerning that your official tool provides wrong technical data, forcing customers to spend time rectifying it in-store.

2. Technical Incompetence & Risk of Damage:
Despite claiming 4 years of experience, the technician clearly did not know how to handle my car model. He attempted to pull out hoses with brute force instead of removing the necessary screws and fittings. I had to look up a YouTube tutorial myself to show him the correct steps, and at one point, he even asked ME how to disassemble it. Most alarmingly, he caused coolant to spray all over the engine bay. The reassembly was equally shambolic—missing screws and parts forced back into place without any care.

3. Product Knowledge Gap:
The staff struggled to identify the correct battery, initially suggesting the wrong model multiple times. When asked about the differences between products, they were unable to provide any clear explanation, leaving me feeling completely unsupported as a consumer.

4. Billing Absurdity & Poor Service:
Because the correct battery found in-store was actually cheaper than my online order, I expected a refund of the difference. Instead, due to a discrepancy between the Retail and Online systems (£160 online vs £120+£40 fitting in-store), the staff member at the till tried to charge me EXTRA.

Despite showing my digital receipt, the staff refused to resolve the internal system error and told me to "call CS myself." I spent 30 minutes on the phone at the counter with no help. Eventually, they waived the extra charge but still failed to refund the price difference, which I am still chasing.

Summary:
This branch demonstrated a total lack of professionalism, technical skill, and basic customer care. I am now worried about the long-term impact on my car due to their forced handling. Avoid this branch at all costs.

Disappointing

Ordered 2 items online for collection at store, paid and checked out. Shortly after had a call to say they dont have these items in store! Why does the website allow you to order items they don't actually have then have to fight for a refund! I also had a voucher from Halfords to use and it seems I have now lost that through no fault of my own. I would really like this voucher back so I can try and find these items in another store

Kallum at Kidderminster

would like to leave a review for Kallum in your Kidderminster branch, I visited to purchase a new wing mirror unfortunately you had none in stock and were unable to order one, however he went out his way to not only stick my mirror back together but he also stuck it onto the casing so I could at least drive. His customer service was impeccable 100% recommend. Thank you Kallum, a credit to Halfords.

Do not buy tyres from Halfords(no warranty)

Hello everyone, I want to share my experience with Halfords, what I recommend is do not buy tyres, do not buy tyres from Halfords, because you have no warranty on it, the standard warranty that Halfords gives means nothing, it's a joke, and no one will help you, you will be left with a loss. Very disappointed, a year ago on 04/03/2025 I bought two premium quality tyres Bridgestone Turanza 6 (235/40 R18 95Y) RG ENLITEN XL.
After 1 year and 10.000mile 5 mm of grip remain tires started to have cracks, the tyreS indicates premature degradation, tyres look like old tyres.(I can prove it with pictures).
After Halfords recommendation on 11/03/2026 I went to Halfords service( Halfords autocentre/National tyres) for free tyre check,
After inspection the technician found the following Issue on both tyres Bridgestone Turanza 6 (235/40 R18 95Y) RG ENLITEN XL starting deteriorate and recommended solution to renew both tyres.
After this, I sent an email with pictures and the service report to customer service, and guess what response I got back, Halfords can't help me with anything because the tires are 11 months old, and that was it,
Message from Halfords:

,,,Thanks for getting in touch. this is with regards to the request that we send an email about the findings on the tires that are cracked, Hub has advised since this was done 11 months ago there's nothing they can assist with at this point...,,,,,,

I sent a message saying I disagree with their decision and I'm asking for my tyres to be replaced.
Still today 22/03/2026 no respond from Halfors, thinking to ask ombusman for advice.
And now one tyre start deformation, when drive bad sound from the wheel is comming.
Dont buy tires, no serios company.

Ordered on-line four items and advised would be delivered to South Shields store next day - Friday.

No messages Friday to say in store ready to collect and no messages Saturday. Called Halfords customer services Saturday who advised only two items in stock.

This is the third time this has happened to me. Obviously not the employees fault but Halfords inability to organise their website.

I needed those items Saturday but now this weekend is lost. Maybe if on such occasions Halfords were obliged to give a full refund in addition to providing the promised items they may then start acting a little more professionally.

Customer Service Centre couldn't even contact the store to discuss when delivery would be. Pathetic.

Brilliant store in Widnes

The guys at Widnes are amazing especially Charlie and Jacob the fitters who sorted out my headlamps I was so impressed that I have joined the Halfords motoring club. Very friendly and helpful and down to earth this is what I want.

We visited our local Edge Lane Store in…

We visited our local Edge Lane Store in Liverpool today. We had an issue with a bike we had purchased at Christmas. We were 2 hours early for our booking. We were welcomed straight away and Franny took his time to work out what the issue was. He fixed the problem we had and a further issue with the wheel. The team were friendly, helpful and skilled. I couldn’t recommend them more. Super pleased with the service going over and above to help us. Thank you!! Really appreciate it.

BEWARE ARROGANCE FROM BATH ROAD BRISLINGTON, RUTHLESS SALES STAFF - it was £54 for a bulb or nothing - you can guess the rest 😆 well I don't know about you but I hate being swooped upon and thrust with a one time offer when clearly I only needed to spend £10
I been a customer of Halfords for over 40 years and to reward my custom like that - do you think I will be going again ? - well would you ? 😆

Meg at the Chesterfield store was so helpful!

I just visited the Chesterfield Halfords on the Netto Retail Park. I am on a long journey in a 1983 Citroen 2cv and my windscreen wipers both shredded. There’s no standard part available because it’s an old vehicle. Meg helped me to find equivalent blades and showed me how to adapt them - simple job when you know the part you need. She was knowledgeable, professional and really helpful. A credit to the team and to the company. I’m back on the road a happy customer 😄.

Uninterested Once they Have your £££££s…

You cant reach the store without going thru a call centre. No one answers even when the call centre leaves messages. Despite this I bought a new Audio system which has been only part fitted. Now three days later no one has called me as promised and once more trying to get to speak to anyone except in a South African Call centre is impossible.NO ONE IS INTERESTED. I have now got my credit card company to action a charge back for the + £650.00 I have spent. Halfords was once good but not anymore.
