Buildings quote changed by them but still charged me cancellation fee
Further to their reply. If more info was needed (regarding roof material), it should have been obtained BEFORE allowing me to accept a quote and pay for it. This was done retrospectively. The process forces the customer to have to cancel. I dont accept the excuse given, it's not rational. Why not gather ALL the info needed before offering a price?
Got a housebuilding insurance quote via Moneysupermarket and selected Performance Direct. They took my money but then called me to tell me that they needed to know the roofing material because I had stated >50%. when I told them the material the quote changed and was very high. I rejected the new price but they still charged me £35 to cancel the policy, even though online they accepted the information given and quoted on that basis. The difference in time between them taking my money and refunding was less than an hour. Nice earner for them!

When a policy is purchased, the premium is based on the information provided at the time of the quote. If additional details are required, or if information is amended, insurers may reassess the risk and recalculate the premium. Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee that the premium will remain the same if details need to be clarified or updated, as the final price is determined by the insurer's underwriting criteria.
We would also like to clarify that our cancellation fee is clearly disclosed before purchase and forms part of the policy terms and conditions. Customers are required to review and agree to these terms before completing their purchase. The fee helps cover the administrative costs associated with arranging and subsequently cancelling a policy, regardless of the length of time the policy has been active.
We appreciate that this was not the outcome you were hoping for and understand your frustration. Thank you for your feedback, which helps us review and improve the service we provide.
