I have held back writing this review as our move to New Zealand was 2 and a half years ago. Our belongings arrived in New Zealand end of 2022. In the UK I was concerned about the packing which took place in August/September 2022 in Nottingham. The packers were friendly enough and then apologetic when one of the team got angry as he felt he was doing all the heavy stuff upstairs and was very vocal about it. I thought they were still doing a good job at the time. We were not able to open our boxes when they arrived in Invercargill New Zealand so the delivery team put everything in our garage for us. However, plain to see was our brand new mattress which we hadn't even slept on yet which was still in the wrapping from the store we bought it from, was totally ruined and had probably been stored the wrong way during the whole trip. The mattress filling had all moved to one area and created a massive bulge. We could not get it flat no matter what we did so had to put a mattress topper on it until we could buy another one. We could not check off all the box numbers as the guy reading the numbers read most of them upside down!!! So we had no idea if they were all there and I don't think they did either. When we finally got to open some boxes, we had broken computer monitors as they were in a box with wardrobe parts with barely any paper/padding to protect it. We had some crystal from my mother in law who passed away during covid. It also was put in a box with parts and barely any paper/padding for protection and also broken. The frame of artwork broken, two of my tall favorite ornaments broken, 2x wall clocks broken and some glasses broken. I have probably forgotten to mention some items too. Everytime I open my cupboard I wonder who has my union jack mugs, my tea cups and saucers , egg cups and various dishes and also most of my husband's collection of tankards and a box and a half of vinyl records and other various collectable items because we don't have them so someone does and to think we were honest and told the delivery team when we saw something that didn't belong to us. Did we have insurance, yes we did but as we couldn't unpack for over a year I thought it would be too late but yes I probably still should have tried. Regardless, I felt it was time to sit down and write this review. Possessions are things we choose and become personal to us so even missing the smallest thing or having it broken really sucks. Everyone was lovely to deal with when organising our move but we can't help but be disappointed with the end result.

My son recently moved to Switzerland and the move was managed from beginning to end with absolute proffessionlism no mistakes and everything was done exactly as they said it would

Avoid Mercia at all costs — one of the most unprofessional, disorganised companies we’ve ever dealt with.

At first, things looked promising. Michelle, their UK rep, was responsive, and the third-party packing company they outsourced to did a fantastic job. Unfortunately, the moment Mercia took control, the experience spiraled into a costly, stressful mess.

Our container left the UK on 16 March 2025. It didn’t arrive until 9 May — nearly two months later, despite their claim it would take around 15 days. We understand delays happen, but what followed was inexcusable.

We paid over £7,000, believing it covered everything: packing, sea shipping, and delivery to our door in the Azores. We informed Mercia from the beginning that our street was one-way and would require local approval for access — this was flagged multiple times, weeks in advance.

They ignored it.

One week before delivery, with still no clear communication or plan, we were hit with a last-minute bombshell: we’d need a shuttle service because our street wasn’t accessible — the same street we’d warned them about. We were suddenly expected to pay an extra €2,000+, without any prior notice. When we pushed back, the response was a mixture of evasiveness and blame-shifting. Apparently, they “don’t check delivery access in advance.” That’s not just irresponsible — it’s outrageous.

Michelle, who was polite when taking our money, became defensive and dismissive when we asked for accountability. No apology. No solution. Just repeated attempts to frame their error as somehow our fault — and pressure to pay.

Faced with no alternative and desperate to receive our belongings, we paid — under protest.

The delivery itself was yet another blow. Despite our request to be present during the unloading, we discovered that several of our valuable personal items — including art worth over €30,000 — had been damaged. We had private insurance, but as expected, it didn’t cover the type of damage caused. Mercia, once again, offered no help, no responsibility, no care.

To summarise: Mercia charged us for a service they didn’t fully deliver, ignored repeated access warnings, dumped extra fees on us last-minute, and handled complaints with a complete lack of professionalism or empathy.

This wasn’t a moving service — it was a masterclass in how not to run a business.

Save yourself the stress, the money, and the damage — steer well clear of Mercia. We would never recommend them to anyone.

I can't recommend Mercia moving company highly enough! From start to finish, this was a dream team! Communication with Kate was always immediate and all of my questions were always answered speedily and efficiently. I was moving a small amount of personal items from France to the UK, and Dave and Michael were nothing short of fabulous. On time, incredibly efficient, the whole operation was impeccable. They were the best!
I hope I have an opportunity to use them again in the future.

I recently moved to Alicante with Mercia movers and the whole experience was brilliant. Everything arrived undamaged and they even reassembled my pool table that I had when I was a kid so can now play pool in the sunshine with amazing views. Thank you so much - thoroughly recommended.

We had a total of 20 boxes; 2 tables a chair and one bike to move back to Germany. Mercia Movers are true professionals and helped us through the whole process. They made it really easy - and even if the "move" was so small they treat us really well. They were attentive and clear on the requirements. They made the whole stress of moving to go away!

I am a small business owner and had to move my podiatry equipment from Solihull to sheldon. Problem was that access with it being a city centre was bad but the crew of Chris and Lee did a Sterling job and even dismantled my large podiatry chair for me. I recently used Mercia movers to relocate me from London to Luxembourg. There were many potential moving companies which were worthy of further discussions, but even in the initial conversations, Mercia was the most professional. Our decision was the right one, as when we had the movers come in to both pack, and then unpack, their work was exemplary. The team was courteous, hard-working, and actually finished both the packing and unpacking well within the defined time frames. Our move was much smoother than what we anticipated, with nothing to report as damages or casualties. I must specifically call out Lee and Peter , who were both at our packing site in London, and then at the unpacking site in Luxembourg, and I wish them well for their future. Raj , as our move coordinator was also always available to assist and guide in what is not an easy period for someone relocating across countries

We have moved house twice locally in the last 12 months and used Mercia Movers on both occasions, We opted for the packing service and were glad we did. The team of 4 arrived exactly at 8am on day 1 and had the whole house packed up by 1pm, leaving only the essentials for moving day. They returned the same time next day and were all finished by 9:30am
ensuring we were ready to get the keys as early as possible. The team worked hard and efficiently. Two minor items of damage were quickly sorted. The service was good and the communication with Martin was excellent. We felt the price we paid represented good value compared to other quotes we got.

Simon and the team where very helpful and provided the packaging for our house move.

Good backroom support in preparation for our move to south-west France from northern England. Removal crews at UK collection and French delivery were excellent - courteous, hardworking and ensured care was taken of our precious possessions. Thank you to the teams involved.

Where to start.
The move started really well, the 3 man team that arrived to collect our possession's were amazing.
Really looked after our goods, extra wrapped our furniture for protection, arrived with an 18meter lorry and all our goods were packed into the storage crates we were told they would be stored in at their warehouse.
WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THAT IS INEXCUSABLE.
Our possession's arrived in Spain DISASTER over 4,500 pounds of damage and lost goods.
EVERY piece of furniture had damage, a large king-size sleigh bed had one of its legs smashed off, our mattress had a hole in it, the other side was badly roughed up and it had a water tide mark on one quarter.
Other items had water damage.
When we were informed of our delivery, the sales agent at Mercia made a great play of making sure we had access for an 18 meter vehicle, imagine our disappointment when a vehicle less than two thirds of that size turned up.
Our possessions had all the previously applied protective wrapping removed and had been rammed
into this vehicle.
We then find they have "LOST" our 7´x3´ hardwood garden table and 5 boxes.
These items were packed into a storage crate when collected with other items.
To my amazement the manager at Mercia has made no attempt to locate these items or explain how or why they were removed from the storage crates, merely saying lets leave it to the insurance company knowing we have a limited liability.
Also apparently and conveniently there is no CCTV in the area these items were stored and has not provided us with any details of the storage.
Finally we have been overcharged 480.00 in storage ¿330.00 for the items they have lost? which despite assurance we would be refunded by the invoice manager.
We have been offered 500.00 as a goodwill gesture which I find insulting.
The insurance has offered less than a quarter of the cost of our damages.
They do not seems concerned we are going to Litigate this, lets hope they regret that and will update when we get a resolution as they have breached their duty of care to us and this would not pass the reasonable man test.
BEWARE THE COURTS ALLOW THEM TO HIDE BEHIND THEIR LIMITED LIABILITY CLAUSE.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
