Have had 1099 forms almost 2 weeks. They play cat and mouse saying come pick them up and then they are not ready. Customer service is nonexistent. No one answers the phone. Have to physically travel there and then no answers.

H&R Block Online Software MISSED NEW Tax Credits and HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE- USE TurboTax or anyone else.
I filed my 2025 taxes with H&R Block Online software. The software completely missed tax credits from the new legislation, specifically the tax credit for auto loan interest paid in 2025. The software never inquired or prompted for it, nor even listed it in any of the submenus. H&R Block insisted at the end that I got my "biggest refund," but it was completely false.
After I filed with H&R Block, I checked with Turbo tax and their software Immediately told me the new tax break for interest paid on new auto loans in 2025. Their software immediately showed me that my refund should have been $150 MORE than what H&R Block gave me.
I tried calling H&R Block, but it was impossible to get to a human. I had to use a different phone# so the AI phone support would get me to a sales rep, but then they refused to help...
I will never use H&R Block again.

Worst software the past two years. Transfers data that is totally wrong. What happened? Next year it is Turbo Tax.

The 2025 PC edition of their tax software requires you to allow them to push your personal financial data outside the protections of US Law, or risk unspecified additional charges or being denied service. You are not warned of this before buying non-refundable software.

H&R Block Business Tax Software is as buggy and slow as any program I've ever encountered. I'm doing 1120S. When I FINALLY got to the end and E-Filed, I get an error message saying my account with ATX has a problem. Who is ATX? Can't find anything about that. I'm tired of HRBlock asking questions out of order, not filling in the tax form correctly when they ask for the data, and just generally poorly written software, and near-non-existent support. I did talk to someone who knew nothing, "Run the program as administrator, or turn your computer off and on again". Really! This is insane.

What went wrong this time? Thats how you ask for a review? First of all they lost my 1099..and instead of apologizing they actually blamed me..i was furious because they didnt even tell me they needed it at first..then after telling me to bring it, i did. Put right in their employees hand, then they called the next day saying they never got it...that i didnt bring it in! It took 4 months altogether to finish them. NEVER GO TO H & R BLOCK!

I've used H&R for a number of years and relied on them to be the tax experts.
I just happened to ask a question regarding a rental property and they replied, "when did you buy it". I said over 10 year ago. They said there was no record despite the fact I've reported my income and deductions for several year. They blamed the error on a software issue, which seems unlikely. This resulted in incorrect returns for the last 5 years.
Unfortunately the IRS only allows amendments for 3 previous years. H&R did file a 1040X for the previous year but I had to manually file for years beyond that. It has taken almost a year to get my money back. I have no idea how much was lost on older filings beyond 3 years.
I got the impression preparers are told to process returns as fast as possible for profits. I doubt they go through every detail. IDK if I'll go back to H&R, all national tax services seem to have issues.

I had a great accountant helping me and they double checked to make sure I got the maximum return for last year. Good people, great company

I gave them a 2 because they do federal taxes well. They are solely lacking expertise with Wisconsin state taxes and who they hire who claim they possess certain expertise. I switched from TurboTax to Block quite a few years ago and gave them plenty of opportunities to improve their online product. I file military retired pay which is exempt from state tax. In 2021, it included my pay on 2 different lines on the same schedule. They finally fixed it but I spent hours on the phone with numerous help tickets and always restating why I was calling. In 2024, I was referred to working with a tax preparer because I couldn’t make adjustments which I knew wasn’t correct. I received a notice from the state that told me my return still wasn’t done correctly. The reason I felt motivated to write this review is because I received an audit letter from 2023 that my taxes were done incorrectly and I owed additional taxes plus interest. I’ve put more effort into working with them to improve their product than what I was receiving. They have an accuracy guarantee but it’s bothersome to comply with their requirements. Just be aware.

I filed my federal return on H&R Block for tax year 2024 and paid premium price. But there is no amendment option whatsoever once I log in. It looks like a one time deal for tax preparation and no follow up afterwards. All I see in my account is for upcoming year 2025 tax prep. The list of previous years' return is for information only, no actual useful functions such as amendment of a return. What a rip off!

This review relates to H&R Block’s business payroll services (Block Advisors / payroll platform), not individual tax preparation or local office staff.

In July 2025, H&R Block began processing payroll for my business after services were transitioned from another provider. Following this change, we experienced multiple payroll hiccups, including the inability to process employees working under two different payroll codes, which is a basic requirement for businesses operating multiple service lines.

While those issues were disruptive, the most serious failure occurred in December 2025.

At that time, H&R Block processed a $1,500 payroll error. After the issue was identified, it took about one week to receive a clear resolution. I was ultimately informed that employment and wage laws do not allow employers to claw back wages once they have been paid, even when the payment resulted from a payroll processing mistake.

Because of this, the mistake could not legally be corrected, and my business permanently absorbed the $1,500 loss.

For context, for a small company with 10 employees, this amounted to approximately a 20% payroll loss for that pay period — roughly the wages of two part-time employees.

Given the severity of this error and the fact that the loss was unrecoverable, I will be submitting a formal complaint to the Better Business Bureau to document this matter. Based on this experience, I would strongly recommend that other small business owners go elsewhere for their payroll needs.

I went to H and R Block in Cambridge MN to help me with my small business taxes. They weren't complete. I was audited and contacted them for help because I had bought Peace of Mind Protection for years. I was denied any help because it does not apply to small business taxes.I asked for assistance on info with estimated taxes and was given inaccurate advice. I incurred thousands of dollars in interest and penalties because of their mistakes. Now I'm working with a knowledgeable CPA and I am disgusted about the lack of knowledge and help from the H and R office. Do NOT trust with small business taxes!

Allowing the theft and profits from consumers is disturbing and unethical at best! Three decades of patronage gone! I absolutely refuse to do business with such an inherently despicable organization. Never again!

I paid $220 (online + Tax Pro Review) for a 1040-NR return. My file has been locked in Tax Pro Review for 40+ days. I was told “we’ll unlock it tomorrow” repeatedly. Critical errors (nonresident shouldn’t have Self-Employment Tax or QBI/8995) cannot be fixed because I’m blocked from editing.
My tax pro (Maria) is polite but has no ability to unlock; Field Tech Support never delivers. Social media opened a new case, still no ETA or written solution.
Result: missed timelines, wasted time, and a stalled filing. I have formally requested a full refund of $220 and will move to another provider if this isn’t resolved immediately.

Horrendous company. Really like they sent me a piece of mail for a tax advance knowing damn well that I was never going to be approved. Based on their horrible ratings I'm sure everyone knows they suck. Gth

I made an Appointment with H&R Block for my nonprofit taxes. I received two follow-up emails about my meeting. Then nothing! I did not receive anything about my meeting. I called and the person answering the phone said there was no meeting scheduled. Scheduling a virtual meeting is NOT working at this company. The person on the phone did not know how to help me. That says it all.

Sincerely in every regard, a horrible, shitty website. Do not even bother making an account. Go somewhere else if you want something that will even slightly help you file any paperwork. Absolute garbage.

Used their free software in 2020. 5 years later I'm left paying to get my return so that I can re-file state because they apparently never got it.

Thanks for nothing H&R Block. I could lose my job over this, what a rug-pull.
