I would strongly people to avoid shared ownership as much as possible. It comes with none of the benefits of owning and all the draw backs of renting. The rent increases everyear. You are also forced to follow your estates rules exactly whilst everyone else can do what they want. We’ve had constant battles with a neighbour blocking our driveway. Heylo didn’t want to know and denied there being a problem. When the neighbour complained about us they took their side immediately without even investigating properly, sending us threatening emails and speaking to you like a child. Cannot wait to sell up - an utter scam of a company.

I thought buying the rest of my house would be complicated, but it just wasn't. The staircasing procedure was simple and straightforward and today we completed on the sale.
Shared ownership through Heylo allowed us to buy a home in steps and in our own time. Without it, we could never have achieved home ownership.

Shared ownership allowed us to get back onto the property ladder after years of renting. In particular, as I was over 60 it has made a real difference.
Luckily, I have been able to use the staircasing process to eventually purchase all of the share. Heylo have been instrumental in supporting this process, which was completed this week.

My experience with Heylo Housing has been extremely stressful and disappointing.
First, they got the percentage of my property ownership wrong. My paperwork clearly stated that I owned 77%, but it later turned out I only owned 71%. This caused huge confusion and stress, especially as I was basing the figures on buying another property.
Second, I was told I could sell under the RICS valuation and repay the percentage based on the agreed sale price. Later, I was informed this information was wrong. By that point, I had already made decisions based on what I was told.
There has been no offer of compensation or accountability for the mistakes. Instead, I’ve had to deal with all the stress and consequences myself.
I would not recommend Heylo Housing – the lack of accuracy and responsibility has made what should have been a straightforward process incredibly difficult and upsetting.

Appalling customer service! Last year they started chasing for rent arrears from 4 years ago. I provided them all the evidence and proof of payments, to then be told it’s all sorted and was an error on their end. 8 months later they start chasing for the same again. The income officer won’t even call me or answer my calls to discuss my concerns of where my money is over the phone. He takes weeks to reply to an email and when he does he doesn’t even answer my questions or concerns as to where my money is! BE VERY WARY using Heylo! Needless to say it’s STILL not sorted.

Started chasing us for debt following a rent increase. We’ve never received an invoice for the debt, just a chase letter saying it had been escalated. Debt was caused by them not adjusting our direct debit payments.
We’ve tried to call multiple times but they keep hanging up on us.
We’re now getting threatened that our home is at risk. The debt is £70 so literally nothing compared to the thousands we pay them a year.

Just trying to get contact has proved impossible and that's before we even apply!
We have being trying to reach the sales team to start the application process for shared ownership, however, despite numerous promises of a call back, nothing, just radio silence.

Heylo Housing urgently needs to reassess their reliance on third-party solicitors and collaborate with a firm that can effectively address legal challenges within a specified timeframe. While the team at staircasing dept makes efforts to resolve issues, the process often becomes circular, ultimately requiring intervention from law firms that fail to respond adequately to inquiries. This has resulted in significant delays in progressing to the staircase, compounded by Heylo's solicitors mishandling the documentation for the land registry. The service provided by Heylo is subpar, as they frequently shift responsibilities between various companies to tackle issues that they are unable to manage internally.
In light of these experiences, it is advisable to avoid engaging with Heylo altogether due to their evident incompetence.
Consider avoiding Heylo at all costs and make a thoughtful choice to invest your hard-earned money elsewhere. Your financial resources deserve to be spent wisely, and there are better options available that can provide greater value and satisfaction.

Purchased a shared ownership property in May 2022, and have not started to receive notices of arrears for rent from June 2022 although this had been paid.
Even though proof has been sent, Haylo continue to send notices and are now threatening to take legal action.
The customer service is shocking
The department who look after arrears are non-existant unless it is to send incorrect threatening letters.

I purchased a shared ownership property as it was a great way to get onto the property ladder. Heylo have always been very responsive and helpful especially when it came down to me selling the property. A big thanks and special mention to Natasha Marsden in the resales and staircasing team, she went above and beyond to help me work to deadlines and assist with queries.
Overall I’d recommend Heylo, you hear of some horror stories about shared ownership but that has not been my experience.
