Luneside/Lancaster Review.

Personally I think luneside is great. I have found that the staff has been really accommodating and I appreciate that. Sure, the pandemic has changed protocols but I think this goes for the entire world.

It is a brand new complex so I’m sure things will get better. The staff I believe are doing their best to adapt. Having lived in other acommodations I believe luneside is currently really good and will be better once covid passes and little issues can be resolved.

An Expensive Prison- 23 reasons not to use CRM.

Some background:
Before coming to university, I took a year out to work so I could afford a £120PW 'living standard' like this. I was sold by the new, sleek looks of the new Luneside (Lancaster) complex. But unfortunately, my money has been wasted. And therefore, so that you do not do the same:

Here are 23 reasons NOT to use CRM:

During my stay within this Pandemic, I have:
1- Had my personal items CONFISCATED without warning. (I am 20 years of age, living here under my own finances)
2- Been told I cannot use the Gym, the pool table, etc. but must pay full rent rates regardless.
3- Must pay £8+ for washing my own clothes! (they use circuit)
4- I have been verbally abused by on-site security (told to ***k off back to my room and have another w@nk).
5- I have had SECURITY ENTER MY PROPERTY WITHOUT WARNING nor permission, nor reason.
6- There have been numerous issues with the wifi and the water (water here tastes disgusting).
7- They promised us buses would pass by this site, so far I have seen none.
8- They do not trust you to turn off lights, and will make all lights (other than those in your sleeping area (luckily)) sensory, meaning if you're a night owl like me, the hallway will become your worse enemy, as will your own bathroom, I was forced to tape my sensor apart from one corner, so that it acts as a light switch on the ceiling!
9- The side I live on (ironically not the Luneside, the car park side (no fancy name for that)) Has security who can look directly into my room, which leaves a lack of privacy, especially when I have had them swear at me and give me crude comments in the past.
10- This side has no decent view of course.
11- This side has less space.
12- When the sun is out, this side gets EXTREMELY hot, but
13- This side has NO AIR CON. Despite reception insisting we do (essentially telling us we are wrong) when we simply do not!!!
14- The windows in the kitchen open by 3 inches, NO JOKE!
15- The FIRE ALARMS are ULTRA SENSITIVE.
(these last two make for a horrible combo, believe me)
16- Yet, for this, we pay the same amount as the larger, air-conditioned, beautiful riverside apartments! Not to mention their kitchen windows fully open!
17- But it's not perfect on that side, as with all flats, the heating is timed, which means in those famous, harsh northern winters, eventually, that heating WILL TURN OFF. The flats on the riverside get practically no sunlight, therefore many of the residents have resorted to BUYING their own heaters, as the cold simply gets too much!
18- The windows that do fully open are barred. Yes, like in a prison.
19- During this Pandemic, the security on site have NO loyalty to you, if they see you potentially partying, they will walk directly into your flat, unannounced, in order to investigate. And if you are partying, you can best believe they will STITCH YOU UP. The 10k fine has no effect on them, doesn't matter if you put food on the table for their children, they will watch over you like stoic prison guards. I once saw two young lads from the block opposite get arrested because security called on them.
20- When cooking, the hob will turn itself off eventually, there's nothing you can do about it.
21- The fridges hardly work, your stuff will remain just below room temperature, and all your produce will get damp/ soggy. I don't know how or why, but it will.
22- The TV is cheap, and the remote is rubbish. You will have to use the buttons on the actual tv in order to navigate.
23- Despite living next to a council estate where a lot of young lads will be screaming at the top of their lungs at 3am in the morning, security does nothing to resolve this issue. Meaning they, on ratio, have protected the outsiders moreso than the insiders who pay their wages.

LIVE HERE IF:
1- You value your safety over any sort of freedom.

I cannot wait for my own place. Because THIS IS NOT A HOME.
This is an expensive prison.

Bad experience at Felda House Wembley

I stayed at Felda House Wembley in the academic year 19/20 and made a new booking for the academic year 20/21 in December 2019. Due to the covid-19 outbreak, my university informed me that I’m going to study term 1 online on the 19th of September. For this reason, I wanted to cancel my tenancy agreement that I dont want to pay rent for an empty room that I’m not going to stay and I send them an attendance letter from my university as a proof but they did not accept it because my course is still going ahead with face to face teaching for the next term. They are enforcing me to pay rents and not to cancel my contract in this uncertain situation. I do not recommend this company at all.

Mary Parker House, Plymouth

I have nothing but good things to write about Mary Parker House (Plymouth) and the staff that work there.
As a very reserved individual, I wanted somewhere quiet, tidy, and secure to live for my final two years at university. After living in a noisy house for my first year, I was very happy to discover MPH. The rooms are beautiful, minimal (this is a good thing), bright, and are very affordable (considering this is private accommodation). After stressful days at university, I always looked forward to going home (I very much considered MPH to be my home) and unwinding in my room, cooking in the spacious kitchen, and not having to endure noisy people. I cannot thank the staff enough for being so friendly and approachable, and for their support during my time there.
In addition, I also felt very safe living there due to the high level of security. Would definitely recommend!

Dear CRM students,

Other students and I have been deeply disappointed of the standard of your accommodation at the Quarry, Falmouth.

From the first encounter of entering your property on Sunday evening I was dreadfully shocked. I was expecting, and was made to believe that this accommodation would be peaceful ,quiet and clean!
I can certainly say it was extremely dusty, noisy , and un-peaceful.
The generator runs 24hrs outside meaning there is a constant noise when I am trying to sleep, I have been told this will continue for a month! .

Payment issues - I am paying for a premium en-suite when it is the same size as the standard rooms. On top of that there are people with standard rooms (the same size as I) that have a better situated room in terms of noise and view.
I shall not be taken advantage of and be paying more when I am getting the same as and even less as people paying less with more or the same.

Hygiene - All of the windows were filthy, everything in the room and, kitchen was dusty. The outside view of the big window in my shared kitchen is dreadful and kept a mess, with rubbish been thrown by the builders and rubble from the construction site.

Water - The water pipes are so cheap the water tastes of plastic and the water has not been flushed out properly. There was an incidence in the flat next to mine where one of your residence had sewer water coming out of her shower.
The water facilities have been temporally cut of on numerous occasions.

Internet - The WI-FI has been too slow to compete with online studying and even cut off.

Health and safety - I had an injury on Monday 21st of September evening time and there was nobody trained in first aid on site. There was not even a first aid kit in the kitchen which I understand is not obligatory, but simply is unthoughtful from your company. Some of your employers enter our flat without wearing a mask.

Supplies- my flatmates and I are still awaiting a rubbish bin and a bucket. The other appliances came in late.

Washing- 2 washing machines for 135 students is unacceptable

Furniture- everything’s made out of chip wood and painted with just a thin gloss paint this makes the air dusty, I understand that can’t be changed.
The bed is very uncomfortable , the chairs in the kitchen are so hard that they could cause permanent damage to ones back.

Electric- there have been brownout power cuts on multiple occasions including the morning on the 22nd of September and the morning of the 23rd of September.

Lighting- As a result of there being strong security light outside my bedroom it is too bright for me when sleeping at night. The blackout and main blind are not successful in blocking the light.

I am claiming money back. As the majority of these problems go against the tenancy agreement , mainly living on a construction site as that’s what caused most of these problems. Telling us that there will be ongoing construction work ongoing, 12 hours before move in, is not acceptable . I have been emailed that the constructions will be ongoing for 2 weeks, which leaves under a week to finish, I find it hard to believe this is true , and if it does take longer that will be extremely upsetting.

If there is no quick action from your company to improve things I will be looking closely into my legal rights, and will have to take legal action.

Dear Ebony

We apologise for the disruptions you have experienced at The Quarry and are pleased to confirm that the builders have now finished work on site. The landlord has agreed to some financial respite for the residents at The Quarry which was communicated to everyone via email. Please let us know if you have not received this email.

With regards to your query on the room size, we are currently undertaking a full review of all rooms at The Quarry. I’m sure you can appreciate this is a big task and additionally challenging with COVID restrictions. It would be very helpful if you could email photos of your room to thequarry@crm-students.com to help us undertake this. Once we have conducted this review we will re-classify room types as appropriate.

We’re sorry to hear of your frustrations with the WiFi, the network is a temporary provision put in place to ensure connectivity whilst the permanent solution is installed. The permanent solution was delayed due to COVID but we will update all residents when we have news on when it will be live. The temporary solution should be delivering speeds of around 9-10Mbps. If this is not the case, please report it to Ask4 who are the internet provider and will review your speeds and assist.

We understand you may have already spoken to our staff on site regarding your other points but if you feel they are not resolved, please email us on thequarry@crm-students.com and we will be happy to assist.

Kind regards,

CRM Students

140 of us say: Don’t go CRM!!!!

Picture this: we get an email the day before some of us move into The Quarry, Falmouth, telling us the building is unfinished. We arrive to see builders, scaffolding and vehicles everywhere. Many rooms aren’t finished, so students need to live on campus for a week and bring their things over to the quarry the week after. Those that are finished have a range of issues; recently flooded rooms, cupboard doors missing, plumbing problems, missing utilities. We were promised a gym and games room and they don’t exist. Plumbers are in my room about 15 times in the first couple days, and the noise from the construction is a lot. The electricity is still running off generators, the water keeps cutting out, there are frequent power cuts sometimes for half an hour. When the internet is working it’s terrible, and we all have to miss a fair few online lectures and often use data. Most rooms look nothing like the pictures in terms of size and layout. I am paying £800 a month for a premium studio, and in the pictures the space was large and the kitchen starts a metre away from the end of the bed. In reality the kitchen starts a metre away from where my head rests, and the room is half the size. A few lucky girls across from me have rooms 3x the size and sea views, and I am paying the same amount for premium. I’ve essentially, been scammed.
Lastly, I go down to do my laundry... to find out I have to pay £4 to wash it.......

With regards to the Laundry room. The machines are managed by Circuit laundry who operate in the majority of student accommodation sites across the UK at these prices, please do contact them direct using the details displayed in the laundry room if you wish to raise your concerns.

The CRM website does not advertise provision of a gym or movie room but if you have found these stated elsewhere please do advise us of the website so we can review where this has come from.

Terrible stay - Felda House Wembley

Terrible stay. Rude manger didn’t like me before I even began my stay, over the phone she was very rude. The water had an odour, in the kitchen and the bathroom, I occurred a rash when washing my face many times and the kitchen water I was scared to drink it. the sewage had a bad smell as well and would make my bathroom stink. There was a fly infestation in my kitchen, I reported it, they said there wasn’t. It got so bad that it got into my roommates and I bedroom. Took over two month from them to change the broken fridge freezer, they only did because I spoke legal term to them. I once came back from Christmas break to find a brown mess all over my shower with no explanation and the charged me cleaning fees because my soap felt a residue on the floor a simple wipe with water would have done the trick but £30 charge! Worst accommodation ever would never stay there again. I don’t normal write reviews but i want to take this matter further as the hygiene and sanitary qualities of this accommodation are terrible and frankly dangerous.! If you want photos I’m happy to send!

St Augustine's House in Plymouth

stayed at St Augustine's in Plymouth. It is a great sized studio in a great location, near enough to uni and yet far enough from massive noise and pollution. The change in management has done really well for the building and Marc had definitely turned things around in the building. As a manager, he is approachable yet professional, this is how it should have been right from the start. Also willing to go the extra mile, helping me to carry the extra mattress from the room etc. and following up with emails. Would have given 5 stars if the entire experience was like this but unfortunately had some fixing issues under the previous management and also was not too pleased with the smell of various forms of smoking coming through the vents in my room on many occasions. Very selfish to do something that affects others in the building. Nothing wrong with smoking around the buildings etc but this is specifically due to people smoking inside their room/ rooms. So hopefully this can be addressed for future tenants. Not fun to have a shower and end up smelling of smoke.

Other than this, I was really lucky to be on floor that is generally very clean and quiet all the time. So my advice to future tenants would be to pick your room location wisely. Loved having the roof terrace as well as the gym.

great accommodation for students

As a first year student this is the best accommodation that I could be staying in. Not only is it in a great location; super close to buses and the train station so transportation is never an issue. But also, the staff are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, they are always willing to have a chat and they really do look out for you; they are genuine, lovely people.
In addition, the accommodation is really worth the money with how nice it is, it has everything you’d need in a lovely quiet part of penryn.
I really recommend this place!

Would recommend under the new management.

Lovely place to stay in Plymouth under the new management of Marc!

Management:
Summary- New management are wonderful, welcoming and gets stuff done!

Unfortunately, I made the decision to move out following COVID-19 which Marc has been very understanding of and considerate in terms of some of my items being there still. Whilst I was still at St Augustine's house I was required to self-isolate as it was unknown whether I had been in contact with someone or not at an event and thus I needed to self-isolate whilst this was investigated. Marc was incredibly helpful and supportive during this time coming up to my room to check on me daily to ensure I did not need any medication, food etc going above and beyond in how he approached this.

Unfortunately, I was visiting family at the time of the restrictions being announced and with both university and work being closed I had limited reasons to stay in Plymouth when I could stay at home and help. I decided to move out based upon this and Marc was incredibly helpful in terms of; move out date, ensuring that I am okay, providing help (I needed to prove I was no longer living there to council) and ensuring that despite not living there he learns from my experiences in the earlier months.

One of my first meetings with Marc was a no nonsense meeting I went down to the office where he was incredibly welcoming and I introduced myself and expressed all the problems that I was having since September move in which were unresolved months later. I was incredibly impressed by the fact that Marc had all the problems done or actioning within the space of a week of him being there.
I am glad to report that the changes which I myself saw and I am hearing from some of the friends I made whilst at St Augustine's House are positive and for the better to bring a breathe of new life into the building.
Marc has even gone above and beyond now I have moved out to try and compensate me for my experiences over the first few months that were unacceptable and not to standard. I am not going to detail these experiences in the view as I believe that to be unprofessional on my part as St Augustine's is under new management and I have seen positive changes making me confident that nobody else will experience my initial few months.

Facilities:
Summary- Very spacious would recommend facilities as got everything you can need.
Unfortunately, I only experienced the roof terrace for all residents to use once due to repairs but it is a lovely, sociable and instagramable space.
The common room typically has a least a few people in it making it a lovely sociable space. The TV has a Fire Stick making many services available incl. Netflix.
The office is always open for queries or a chat creating a positive non-judgemental atmosphere and both Marc and Levi made the effort to learn about and listen to residents.
Gym has good equipment for a beginner (treadmill, cross trainer, rowing machine, mats but no free weights for health and safety) but for those wanting classes/weights etc PureGym is a couple of minutes down the road.
I stayed in a Studio Terrace Plus. I absolutely loved how spacious the room was whilst also providing plenty of storage. Kitchen has good facilities but would recommend a table top oven to future tenants. Bed is a double bed with underbed storage and shelving. Loved how bed was positioned so i could see the view from the big floor to ceiling windows which provided plenty of natural light. The position of the large desk optimised the use of natural light for studying whilst allowing use as a bedside table too. Bathroom was good size with a shelf and heater. Loved being on corner as the terrace had a more private side and then a side where I could catch up with my neighbours over the dividing bar.

Location:
Good location. Walking distance to university, Pure Gym, Mutley Plain (shops and bars) and Drake Circus. Also in walking distance to Aldi and little Tesco across the road.

I have stayed at Mary Parker for 2 years now and have loved my experience. The staff are extremely friendly and are always on hand for a chat. The building is very well maintained and any issues are dealt with almost instantly. With an on-site gym, laundry room, common area and movie room the building has everything you could possibly want or need! It is located in a great area of Plymouth, close to the train station, shops and main bus route to Marjon, plus it is only a 10 min walk to Plymouth University and Plymouth College of Art.
