Quite often the hints are taken from member's trees. A large number of members have no concept as to how to construct a correct tree. I've encountered members who have the incorrect information in their trees and can prove my information is correct. Members should be able to be advised by Ancestry that they have messages delivered but not read. Also, the subscription is too high and this is why people do not continue with their membership.

I started 4 family trees a number of years ago for myself and close relatives by marriage (non-DNA relatives). For my sister-in-law I found her German Great Grandfather's grave in Exeter, NSW, her GGG Grandfather who was born in Parramatta in 1793, and Her 4th Fleet GGGG Grandfather, who was Governor of Norfolk Island for 6 months in 1799. If only she owned half of modern day Newtown in Sydney, as he did back then! For my own family my aim was to find all the details of my 16 GG Grandparents. One GG Grandmother turned out to be a very tough riddle, but Ancestry records eventually solved it. I've found over the years as the data grows, and as more people become involved in Ancestry, then the data compounds and details continue to emerge. What might seem unsolvable at one point in time, a year or so down the track the data suddenly appears. So, it simply can be a bit of a waiting game. In any case, keep at it!

When I started, I only knew 2 cousins and now I have over 9 thousand relatives in my tree. I have been to Northern Ireland, stayed with a cousin and met more. Now I feel I belong to a family.

It has given me a greater awareness of my ethnicities and origins through the DNA test and cousin matching. I've been able to collaborate with others interested in genealogy and make discoveries of my extended family. Areas for improvement are recent issues with Ancestry messages crashing and Error 54 regularly occurring across the platform in recent months, as well as faults in the tree checker pro tool. All aforementioned issues have been reported but not necessarily fully repaired as yet.

With hints on family hints are now coming up separate, so when you finished with hints thinking they have all gone, they are not. Where before you could see them at the same time when you opened hints.

I’ve been a member of Ancestry for quite a few years and traced my family back a long time but my greatest discovery was to find my first cousin in Queensland through Ancestry DNA. Due to family quarrels we had lost contact with my mother’s sister’s family 30 years ago. A gift of a DNA test kit to my cousin brought up the DNA link between her and me about 8 years ago. I had not seen her since the mid 1970’s. Whilst our two mothers, sisters, we not able or willing to be reunited before both their deaths my cousin and I have corresponded frequently. Another cousin, daughter of my uncle, went to Queensland and met her.
The greatest achievement was earlier this year when my sister and I and the other cousin were able to get together with the Queensland cousin for lunch in Sydney.it was amazing to share memories of our shared grandparents. All this started with a simple Ancestry DNA test

So many secrets in the family. Now some truths have become known.
Have found and met a wonderful cousin and extended family. We keep in touch.
Still looking for my maternal grandfather - he wasn't who we were told!!!
Oh the intrigue …….

My Ancestry tree now does back to the mid 1700s and I have found a great deal of information. It is sometimes frustrating to not be able to access some documents without paying a higher subscription fee. It is high enough already. I have managed to track down a name change that was a family mystery and an Old Bailey court case involving my third great grandfather. He was a Thames Lighterman and stole some goods. He spent a year in jail, returned to work and died from drowning off Olave Wharf only a few years later.

Traits are getting trivial, eg scary movies. Which leads me to doubt the accuracy of the 'feature'.
Some people showing up as having a DNA 'match' do not appear connected to me at all.
Use international date formats not US only, eg 21 Oct 2026

Most of the AI hints are way off the mark, and do not relate to most of my family trees.

I have learnt so much about my family, even when investigating relatives I thought I knew, there is so much to find out. Despite living 12,000 miles away from my home town, Ancestry allows me to keep going. The UK site is the best for getting all the right information that I need.

Ancestry DNA connected me with a half-sister 12 years younger than me. We have yet to meet but we are corresponding. I did know she existed, as my dad told me, but I had no way of finding her - until she had her DNA test, and the connection was made. So special!!! Thank you, Ancestry!!!

My experience was incredible and helped me with information that put me onto the road of new discoveries. You still have to be careful that it is the correct information and your line. Genealogists are inclined to put people in who do not belong to your line. The DNA has been helpful. Discovered adopted relatives, by them contacting me and once they have received the information, they do not correspond again. Such is life.......

I have had a number of significant breakthroughs in discovering parts of my family. I had always been told my great great grandmother was a Harrington, but it turns out her stepfather was a Harrington, her father was a Woolf, based on a census from 1851 and this ties in with my DNA discovery of 3% Jewish heritage. It explained why I could not find her birth certificate, as it was under a different surname. Another great great great grandmother ran off, leaving her children from her first marriage in Australia in 1875 or so. We could never trace her eventual life path, but eventually following leads on her daughter from a subsequent marriage, we found her grave in Shropshire, where she had ended up with another partner who set her up in a very comfortable country house. And we appear to have found who my paternal grandfather was, based on DNA. It had always been a mystery once we worked out dad was not the youngest of 9, but in fact the eldest sister's son!
Sometimes I find it annoying when hints are offered that require extra subscriptions, when I have a fairly comprehensive subscription already, but I suppose these are hints I can follow independently if I so choose. The inaccuracies of other searchers is also frustrating, especially when they are recording information about my immediate family quite incorrectly. On the whole though, a very useful and accessible resource, without which I would not have such an extensive picture of my family heritage.

Ancestry was much more reliable before the new beta upgrades, which leave all hints as suspicious and also which cant be deleted at the moment.
Too much is wrong and I don’t use Ancestry as much anymore

Like - Regular additions to my DNA Tree
Like - Photos that can be Downloaded - both Grandparents Homes burnt in 1939 Black Friday Fires.
Dislike - when system changes what I have written into the System.
Dislike - that others in the future will be able to see my Notes. If a Male I knew of was a 'Rock Spider' then I like to label him so.
Dislike - very difficult if not impossible to Search within my own Tree.
Dislike - that the DNA could not find Mr Unknown, my Father's Paternal Grandfather.
Dislike - that some Trees look like they followed a Tree found in the Family that says they are related to wealth English Landowners - they are Con Jobs from 19th Century lesser sons of English Families.
Dislike - that Photos of Members look like they are designed for Social Media.
