I would not say my experience has been great and I would not say it`s been bad either, I just battle through and try to keep going, hoping to see the big picture one day.

I have learnt much from hints and shared trees in Ancestry. I love the dna updates and when the latest one arrived it matched my late father’s stories of our ancestry.

Ancestry is a great search option to get most available data. not so good is being asked to pay for newspaper type data which is freely availabe in other areas.

What's not to like? Everything is pretty much easy to follow, although I really miss the way I used to be able to go into ThruLines, it's just not the same. I was clearly able to see all my ancestors up to the latest with reminders about completing them all.

For a start I have tried, but sorry I can't make head or tails of my DNA Results. The closest (2) people connected to me - well can't find anything on how we are connected, even though they really aren't all that close anyway.
And as for the "so call traits I'm supposed to have", you are way off line.
The other thing is that "my mother" and all of her siblings have very swarthy skin - my Lebonese then Irish, added to the fact out of all my siblings, who are ranging from 5ft5ins to 6ft 4ins, I come in at 4ft 11ins, no other member of either of my Maternal / Paternal sides are that short. No I am not s Dwarf.
Added to all that, it now seems that I am totally British Isles ????

The records have been essential to verify my ancestors existence. Lots of stories handed down through the generations have been just that - some of them porky pies (lies) To those beginning their journey, be prepared for anything to come out of the family closet!

I’ve been using Ancestry since 2012, and generally thoroughly enjoy the platform. I do have some gripes, but generally speaking, it’s still my preferred place for generational research.

Hints from ancestry.com.au enabled me to trace my ancestry back ten generations to John Costin born in 1633. So far cross checking with other sources of records (census records, church records) have verified items in that lineage. Thus I am very happy with ancestry.com.au's hint system.

I have mixed feelings about ancestry-on some things it is great at finding information about relatives .Then I have a big problem with items on my tree who have the totally incorrect relationships having my Father as an uncle and trying to fix is not easy. This happens with other people on my tree which I find very frustrating and do not know the reason it happens

The October DNA was completely different from my September DNA. I have a History Teaching Qualification and Teaching experience that I have used to research my family Ancestry. The September DNA matched perfectly my Research Since 2015. The October DNA was completely inaccurate on most findings. I thought Ancestry had made a mistake and given me DNA from another person. Could you please return my September finding from My DNA to my Ancestry profile. I will not use any of the October Findings as they do not match any of my 11 years of family research.

The hints and information given on the site is very helpful however it can also be very misleading and at time false, depending on the source that has given the information, I suggest everyone look into the hints given before going with them, other than that I find Ancestry site to be very good.

My husband was amazed at how much dna information filtered through his families.
He found an uncle that he didnt know about and extended family members within other families.
It also gave him a true indication of where his ancestors came from

Without Ancestry I would never have found my biological grandparents. My mother was adopted and I have now met a whole lot of new cousins. They have given me photos. My grandmother looked just like me! I am 80 years old. What a wonderful discovery !!

I've tested with other companies and they are very good. Ancestry added something extra in terms of an analysis of countries of origin of parents and grandparents, which is very useful. Also, it brings up many matches not before encountered, so you get an insight into some of those missing links.

Ancestry's comprehensive records have enabled me to find a great deal about who my extended family is, going back many generations. I have found having the ability to communicate with other previously unknown relatives exciting. This has led to access to a novel my 2xgrt grandmother wrote about 1870 as well as more family photos. Messaging distant relatives also gave me access to a ships diary featuring a 3x grt grandmother and the initial settlement of Swan River Australia. Treasures. I also really appreciate the ease with which I can upload photos to ancestors galleries. All in all, I have found Ancestry to be an amazing tool.

I started by wanting to know more about my Grandfathers brothers and sisters as they came from Glasgow Scotland. They came by ship in 1920's to New Zealand. A father and his children but they were all in their 20s.
Then I became curious about other sides of the family. My Mothers family arrived on the first ship that arrived in Auckland New Zealand, and they kept a good record of their family. Holding a reunion at 150 years of their arrival.1842-1992. This also got me thinking about my history.
Since starting my tree I have found 3 cousins that were adopted and an extra 2nd cousin as the result of a hidden affair.
Now I can go back many generations and DNA is now given me lots of answers

I discovered Australian aboriginal in my DNA from my father's side. Waiting excitingly for the grandparent DNA breakdown. Marvellous!

Too many experiences to tell from the time I was taken from hospital at 4 days old and retrieved by police 6 months later to a ward of the court and then adopted out, but that was 83 years ago, what a life!

The amount of information available and the ability to access this information is so vastly more advanced.
