Based on the substance of other reviews here, ours was a relatively mild heinous experience. We had booked a trip to Chile that was canceled due to the pandemic and accepted a credit that we couldn’t use for Chile because the price had gone up so much.

We did book and then took a trip to Türkiye. The trip was very cheap, so we added a lot of extras to the booking. The substance of our bad experience was that UTO charged a mandatory $225 for what they called mandatory tips for the guides and then we discovered that the guides received none of it, skewering the guide and bus driver at the very least. So the 25 people or so on our tour did not tip the guide, because they figured UTO had given them a tip, which UTO actually put in their pocket. What kind of a company would do that?

THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM! BAIT N SWITCH!! I purchased a package nearly two years ago. After they canceled the trip and numerous messages without response. That was over a year ago and still UTO Vacations are unable to fulfill my package. They will not issue a refund and now my travel credits expired. This was because they didn't offer my package ever again or any reasonablly priced trips! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE UNRELIABLE, UNETHICAL, NON-COMMUNICATIVE CHEATS!!!

I booked a trip with UTO Vacation back in 2020, which was canceled due to the pandemic. They gave us travel credit instead of a refund, which seemed fair then. However, since then, getting in touch with them to use the credit has been impossible. No one picks up the phone, emails are ignored, and their online chat is a joke. Representatives transfer you from one person to another without providing any help. All the trips on their site are now outrageously priced, making it impossible to use the credit. This company is a scam—beware!

This company has stolen $4700 from my family! They had a trip advertised for $399pp to Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. We paid in full for a total of 8 persons only for them to scare us with being stuck in China if we test positive for Covid. I requested a refund and they refuse and kept on saying I am being rude because I said they stole our money. They keep on hanging up on me. I am searching for other routes to get my money back.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! They are 100% a scam. I made all my payments, then they cancelled my trip and gave me a travel voucher to use in the next 18 months. The problem was, all their prices went up from $399 (yes, it IS too good to be true) to over $10,000 for the same trip. And I can't get my $1450 back (we paid for upgrades and day trips too - MISTAKE). On every level, this company and anyone affiliated needs to be avoided and shunned

UTO Vacations is a racket! They deliberately are keeping the deposits given to them. After they cancelled a trip to China and Thailand due to covid, they sent me a letter asking me to choose between going on the trip (as long as it was for less than 144 hours stay in China, which we could not tell because we had not received the itinerary), or to choose between a credit, or to choose between a full refund. I selected the full refund (I have the email), but they later called me to say that could not honor and only credits were going to be given. But the trips they have right now are so absurdly expensive that my deposit would not make a dent in the total price. I have contacted this company several times (and it is very difficult to reach them and the wait time is over 30 minutes), but they cannot be logical about it and continue to refuse a refund. People, do NOT do business with UTO vacations. Also read the bad reviews they have in Trip Advisor.

UTO VACATION STOLE $1093.00 from me .. book a trip a year in advance, right after I was positive for Covid , I was so I’ll bed rotten.. notified them .. then I got into a car accident ad vises them due to a serious concussion doctors will not allow me to fly.. I could not reach anyone after that phone ring ring NO answer than it hangs up on you.. the advertisement was thru TRAVELZOO.. and travelzoo didn’t do anything .. first they said UTO WILL GIVE ME A CREDIT .. UTO NEVER DID.. when contacted travel zoo they tried to play it off as if they never said that or that’s not what they meant , when I have the email.. I MADE MORE THAN THE DEPOSIT THAT WAS SUPISE TO BE MADE AND THEY TOOK ALL MY MONEY ..and no store credit for future trip .. they scam people all over the place .. this was for a China Japan trip ..after you make your deposit you can’t reach them.. UTO vacation scams you out of your money .

BEWARE - In my opinion, you would be wise to NOT BOOK with untrustworthy UTOvacation

Let me begin by introducing myself. I am a retired travel professional from North Carolina. I have a 40-year career in the travel industry; as a Travel Agent, a Travel Agency Owner, a Tour Planner, and an International Tour Guide. I have traveled widely on international tour packages sponsored by Travelzoo, and have had many superlative experiences. UNTIL, I recently booked with UTOvacation based in Toronto, Canada. We placed a $5908 deposit on a 5-star Egyptian “Touch of the Exotic Tour” and were attempting to call in our final payment of $8698, when things went south. The final payment deadline was still about 14 days in the future, and when we called to give them the payment, we were thrown into a telephone recording loop that advised that we would be disconnected if no one answered in 3 minutes. After about 10-12 tries and disconnects, in desperation we even tried their phone prompt that would direct us to the “book a new tour” line (thinking surely they would prioritize incoming money), only to have the same results - no answer and then disconnected after 3 minutes. We tried this over and over again throughout the next 2 business days during their opening hours with the same result. This was unprecedented and worrisome and therefore, we began to look for reviews on line. There was an exhaustive list of scathing reviews on each site we investigated, claiming the company was a scam, not delivering on parts of tours or quality of hotels that were promised, not giving refunds that were due, cancelling tours at the last minute and only providing a credit for a similar future tour, which turned out to have hyper-inflated pricing - sometimes triple the cost of the first trip - see examples below. When we checked the Better Business Bureau site, UTO Vacations rating had a big “REVOKED” banner stamped on it. So we canceled our trip by email, 10 days prior to the final payment deadline, requesting a full refund on our deposit, and to date they have returned only approximately ¼ of our deposit.
In my opinion, you would be wise to not add your name to the list of upset and dissatisfied customers unable to get money back or having poor travel experiences; save your precious travel dollars to spend with a tour company who has a consistently good reputation.
Update: UTO Vacations rating disappeared from the US Better Business Bureau and has now reappeared with no history or complaints, nor any accreditation.

I booked a trip to China for my wife and myself In 2021 for October 2022. The cancelled two weeks before the trip and said I could get the trip this October I haven’t heard from them. Every time I call them I am on hold for 30 minutes before getting disconnected and they haven’t responded to emails

My wife and I traveled to Italy with UTO Vacations. The first indication that something was wrong was when we were left stranded at the airport in Rome, after having prepaid for a ride to our hotel. The contact person told us to take a taxi and UTO would reimburse us. After that, UTO kept canceling excursions that we had already paid for. The cost of the taxi plus the canceled excursions came up to $442.00. They refused to reimburse anything and ended up giving us a $50 credit, which we can't use. My advice to travelers is stay away from UTO Vacations. They will ruin your trip.

This "company" is a scam and will steal your money.

We booked a trip to China with UTO in 2020, scheduled for 2021, but it was canceled due to travel restrictions. UTO assured us they would offer a replacement trip once the restrictions were lifted, and they issued a credit for the cost of the original trip.
It’s now been three years, and we still haven’t received any offer for a replacement trip. Meanwhile, all similar trips are priced above $6,000, far exceeding the cost of our original booking. Despite multiple requests for a refund, UTO has consistently refused, stating that the credit can only be used toward future trips. However, none of the trips they've offered in the past 3 years come close to being fully covered by our credit.
Be aware that UTO engages in bait-and-switch tactics. They offer special deals, cancel the trips, and then claim their policies don’t allow refunds, forcing customers to either book more expensive trips or forfeit their credit. Based on various forums, we are not alone in this situation—many others have fallen victim to this scam.

I would give zero star if I could. I booked a tour back in 2022 and was cancelled by UTOI citing Covid restriction. Wouldn't provide a full refund and only provide travel credit with an due date. But I was told I could request extension if I can't book a tour I want before the credit expired. Fast forward to 2024, I contacted them for extension a day before my credit expire and they told me travel credit cannot be extended. So I guess they now can change the terms as they wish. They refused to talk to me only asked me to chat or email which doesn't help. Scammed me $3600. Don't book with them!

They kept my $897. I purchased a trip to China in 3/2023. Due to travel restrictions they cancelled my trip and gave me a credit with only 18 months to use it. Super frustrated that I didn't just get my money back, since they were the ones who cancelled it. I wasn't able to rebook within the 18 months, because the price difference between the tour I had booked and their other tours was significant and I just didn't have the available funds to increase my budget during those 18 months. So they just kept my money and I got nothing out of it. The tour was highly discounted, so it definitely seems like this is unethical business to lure buyers in with a good deal, cancel on them with only a credit given, which would then require them to use that credit on a higher priced deal in the future. Not happy with the way they do business at all.

Do not be a victim. UTO is a scam. They want to charge you fees on everything using the most bogus reasons. Customer service is very bad. All they want is money and no service at all. It is not worth your time and headache regardless how cheap they are. At the end, they are not cheap.

my story is the same as everyone else that posted here. paid $2100 they canceled the trip citing visa issues with China. Their were no visa issues on our part, because we were not going to be in China for the amount of days that the problem would be cause for cancelation.
They told me I could only get a UTO credit not a refund, even though they canceled the trip not me.
Well for the last 18 months I have been looking on their web site and the only trip that comes close to what I paid would cost me 20x the price.
contacting them is impossible the dont reply to emails and dont pick up the phone.
THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM!!!!!!!
