I would give zero star if I could. I booked a tour back in 2022 and was cancelled by UTOI citing Covid restriction. Wouldn't provide a full refund and only provide travel credit with an due date. But I was told I could request extension if I can't book a tour I want before the credit expired. Fast forward to 2024, I contacted them for extension a day before my credit expire and they told me travel credit cannot be extended. So I guess they now can change the terms as they wish. They refused to talk to me only asked me to chat or email which doesn't help. Scammed me $1400. Don't book with them!

I booked a tour package that was canceled due to Covid. Instead of issuing refunds we got travel credits. The credit is now expiring, with no warning from the company! They refuse to extend or give a refund. It is impossible to talk to anyone over the phone, you can only chat with them through the website. PLEASE DON'T LOSE YOUR MONEY TOO! I have traveled to many countries and have used tour groups and this is the first one, that feels like a total scam.

Worst travel company ever. Do yourself a favor and avoid them at all cost!!! They cancelled my trip and gave me credit, which is worthless because the same trip costs now 10x more. Everyone who works for that company should be ashamed!!!

I purchased a trip to China in 2022. Due to travel restrictions they cancelled my trip and gave me a credit with only 18 months to use it. Super frustrated that I didn't just get my money back, since they were the ones who cancelled it. I wasn't able to rebook within the 18 months, because the price difference between the tour I had booked and their other tours was significant and I just didn't have the available funds to increase my budget during those 18 months. So they just kept my money and I got nothing out of it. The tour was highly discounted, so it definitely seems like this is unethical business to lure buyers in with a good deal, cancel on them with only a credit given, which would then require them to use that credit on a higher priced deal in the future. Not happy with the way they do business at all.

Total scam. Don’t use them. Booked a trip for 16 to China in 2020 which we didn’t go on obviously. They refused to refund us and only offered travel credit. We’ve extended our credits twice bc they never offer any trips anywhere even remotely close to the price we booked for. I’ve tried many times to contact them to extend our credits again and can’t reach them via phone, email, chat, or online submission. I can’t believe they’re still in business! There are so many complaints against them here, BBB, Trip Advisor…everywhere!

This company has canceled three of my trips. I am using a credit to travel to Peru. Has somebody traveled to Peru or any location with this company? I am afraid UTOVacation will steal close to 4,000 dollars when this trip to Peru is canceled. The regular trip now cost $11,000. Please let me know if somebody has ever traveled with this company.

UTO Vacations charged me $1,480 for a Thailand-China package for two, including extended excursions. They canceled the trip citing COVID-19, then refused a refund, offering only travel credits. When I tried to rebook, prices had skyrocketed—identical trips were now over $11,000 per person, totaling almost $20,000! To make matters worse, all comparable trips are apparently permanently sold out. This feels like a blatant scam to squeeze more money out of customers. I strongly urge the authorities in Ontario, including TICO, to investigate these fraudulent practices. Avoid this company at all costs. Legal action should be taken to shut down this deceptive operation.

Like other reviews, I was also "taken" by a scheduled trip to China that was canceled during the pandemic. I was given a full price credit to book another trip within a year, but then UTO raised the prices of ALL of their trips by 3X to 4X. For example the $3K trip we booked is now $12K. Also, their "affordable" trips (in the $4K to $6K) range are all conveniently "Temporarily Sold Out".

I believe that this is all part of an organized effort by UTO to get customers to walk away from the money they already paid, since it's now too expensive to even utilize the credit.

A class action lawsuit would probably only get me pennies on the dollar, so at this point filing a suit of my own may be the only option. I have contacted a couple of law firms to pursue my own legal action, but so far none of them want the case.

I booked the Japan and China trip for $499 back in 05/2022 for my son and I. We even added additional nights to our package. On 02/15/2023 I received a call from a UTO representative that told me they had to cancel the trip due to Covid issues, but that they could issue a credit for later use. However, since then I have not been able to book any other vacation with UTO for the simple fact that their prices are outrageous. This $499 trip now cost upwards of $5,000/usd per person! After months of trying to get a live person on a call, I opted for the online chat. They were not very helpful. Debby kept referring me to a website link for my answers regarding refund or even an extension of my expiring credit. I refused to go to the provided link and demanded that she give me straight answers. She then tells me that there is no refund or extensions on travel credits. When I was given the credit back in 02/2023 that rep never mentioned that the credit was non-refundable nor did she say to go online to read any Terms and Conditions regarding a credit refund. This is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. On 09/01/2024 I will lose my credit of $1,200 and feel completely helpless in doing anything about it. Stay far away from this company!

We booked a Japan/China trip pre-Covid; once Covid hit the trip was cancelled and we were issued a credit. The same trip went from $500 to $10,000 to rebook now. The company will not even talk to us now and just keeps referring to their non-refund policy. This company is operating a SCAM to jilt people out of their travel money. AVOID BOOKING WITH THEM AT ALL COST!

We purchased a trip before Covid hit. Was all set to travel before the warnings of Americans traveling to China surfaced. When we were going to use our credit to book for Thailand, the prices skyrocketed on every single trip offering! This is not a coincidence! This is a company stealing everyone's money! Please be aware of the switch bait. I wish we didn't lose two thousand dollars. I feel bad for people who have lost more and had a whole family trip picked out! Do not fall for these low prices. They are scammers.

Scam Company that cancelled our trip in 2023 and gave us a credit that we are not able to use due to their raising trip price to unreasonable amount. use. They found a loophole in the Ontario Government regulations to be able to keep customers money without providing any travel services. We are out around $2000. Thank you Travelzoo for advertising their trips. You are to blame too.

We received credit for a covid-cancelled trip. We had a little over a year to book with that credit, but except for a handful of options during that time period for travel that we could not because of dates (or were recommended not to take by our government due to security) the prices have been exorbitant! This week I saw a banner on their website that stated: “Since March 31, 2023, the government has removed this rule and now UtoVacation is bound by the pre-pandemic rule of providing customers the choice of 1)travel credit, 2) re-scheduled travel, and 3) a full refund, when a travel supplier fails to provide the customers travel services.” After a few attempts to use their chat option, I was finally able to talk with a manager. Come to find out that the banner was misleading and that the statement applies to travel booked on and after that date. So…between the group of us, we will lose over $6K+.

They are the epitome of scam artists. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT book anything with them. Don't even waste your time looking at their vacations. Horrible customer service. They tell lies and don't answer questions. There's no one to call. Their horrible reviews are all over the internet. Believe the reviews!

Lies, lies, and lies. Don't believe anything you see on UTO website or any promises. As soon as they get your money, their tone change and you will never see your money again, no trips provide, no communication......

Scam company don’t do it! They take your money then cancel the trip at the last minute. Never again will there be a trip you can use the credit on unless it’s 10x more money

Uto is a scam they advertised cheap trip so I bought 2 packages they cancel the trips gave me useless credit us 1646 now they raise the prices in 1 year from us 400 to 7000 I want my money back. They use different names like pioneer to continue defrauding people

I have a credit of $798 expiring in 2 weeks from a trip that I booked to China/Thailand last year. I was instructed UTO that it was dangerous to travel to China and was advised to cancel the trip for a credit. The agent assured me that I would have a year to use the credit and they would have similarly priced specials. However, during the past year, the markups on UTO for international travel are outrageous. I have checked throughout the year and trips that were priced at $2,000 a year ago are now $9,000, making it ridiculous to book travel with them.

I felt that there was deception when suggesting the credit and now I am left with no options because the credit expires on 7/24/24. I tried calling UTO to speak with an agent throughout the year and no one ever answers and I am redirected to the website chat feature. I used the chat feature, which was also frustrating because of delays and textbook answers.

I have read reviews of UTO since my transaction, which shows many similar complaints where the company has obtained non-refundable deposits without issuing services. This appears to be an unethical, illicit tactic being used to bilk customers.

I don't know if we have any recourse - they are not in the U.S. I can't understand how this company is still operating - they are defrauding customers without consequence. If anyone has had any luck reconciling with them, I would appreciate info.
