Disrespectful store assistant in Rotterdam
I’ve been a Swapfiets customer for over a year and have always had great experiences, which is why I’ve recommended the service to many people.
Unfortunately, my visit yesterday at the Rotterdam store was very disappointing.
I fully understand and love Swapfiets’ circular model and the reuse of bicycles. However, there is a clear difference between a reused bike and one that is dirty, rusty, and poorly maintained, which is what I was first offered. When I politely asked for another option, the employee became visibly annoyed, dismissive, and rude.
At one point, he responded with an aggressive “What!?” and behaved as if my request was unreasonable. When I questioned his attitude, he said he had “a lot of customers,” even though the store was clearly empty.
The second bike I received was also dirty and is now making a loud clicking noise while riding.
What disappointed me most was not just the condition of the bikes, but the rude and disrespectful attitude from the employee. This is far from the level of service I have previously experienced with Swapfiets.

I have the deluxe 7 model with derailleurs. It helps on hills, which are plentiful in the Netherlands. It also has a basket on the front. Although a rear rack would be nice.

Do not recommend
I wouldn't recommend Swapfiets to anyone.
I decided to try it last week and picked up the Power 7 e-bike in Amsterdam.
The bike was not checked or properly prepared for me. The gears kept skipping, so I had to go back to the store to get it fixed immediately.
Later, the electric power stopped working, and I had to return to the store again.
On day 3-4, gears then started skipping and not engaging properly once again, so I decided to return the bike and cancel the contract.
For just 5 days, they charged me €42.38! They refused to waive the €29.90 sign-up fee, despite me having to return to the store multiple times because of issues with the bike.
Terrible customer service. They simply don't seem to care.

Regarding the charges, the sign-up fee is a standard cost upon starting a contract and is unfortunately non-refundable. However, we understand your disappointment given the circumstances. Lange wachttijd
Het duurde erg lang voordat ik een nieuwe fiets kon krijgen, een week. Hier krijg ik dan geen compensatie voor, terwijl ik alleen maar extra kosten maak aangezien ik nu met het OV moest reizen naar werk.
Gelukkig is de ervaring wel goedgemaakt doordat ik een nieuwe (en prachtig roze) fiets terug kreeg.

Vervelend dat je een week moest wachten op een nieuwe fiets en daardoor extra kosten hebt moeten maken voor het openbaar vervoer. We begrijpen dat dit erg onhandig is. We vergoeden in dit soort situaties helaas geen externe reiskosten, maar we nemen je feedback wel intern mee. Fijn om te horen dat je wel blij bent met je nieuwe roze fiets.
