Think twice before taking insurance with Start Travel
As per other reviews, please think twice before taking out this travel insurance. I had to claim after an accident on holiday at the beginning of April. Filled in all the proof, receipts etc that was requested online, then had 1 email in April asking for more copies of items that had already been sent, which I then had to re-send. Heard absolutely nothing back, despite emailing several times and trying to get through on the number supplied, waiting over 30 minutes each time and never getting through to anyone!
Next step will be contacting the ombudsman.
06/06/23. As per your response I have emailed with the details you have requested. Hopefully will get a response ASAP from the higher management in the claims department!

Poor communication
When ringing Starttravel I was hung up on several times, I also was on hold for over 30 minutes before getting hung up on. Not replying to emails. Generally the communication is poor. Still waiting on compensation if I ever get a response from Starttravel.

Lost £1185 due to non payment of claim
AVOID! Lost £1185 because Start Travel (underwritten by Great Lakes) refused to pay out for cancellation. I had to cancel the holiday due to contracting Covid the day before travel. Insurance states they would pay if covid was contracted within 14 days of travel. They refused to pay out because I cancelled the holiday the day before the insurance was due to start. Cancelled the holiday because of covid and for no other reason and gave proof of positive PCR tests.
It took months of stress to try and get it sorted and all to no avail. They will use anything to get out of paying. Will not be using them again and will ensure future travel insurance is not underwritten by Great Lakes!
