Having completed the HSK4.1 course and participated in the inaugural Shanghai immersion and Xi'an trips (I also did the village trip between them), I can say that GoEast staff and programs are excellent all around. The teachers (and staff) are very friendly, attentive and motivating. They do an excellent job meeting students where they are at, and they take a personal interest in each student as all coursework is either 1-on-1 or in small groups.

While travelling with GoEast staff in China, I was consistently impressed by everyone's commitment to making sure students had an amazing experience. GoEast teachers were always happy to answer questions, and GoEast went above and beyond to help us through pain points when traveling in China (issues with laundry, WeChat Pay, etc.). Even the guides (not GoEast staff directly) were exceptionally good about using a combination of Chinese and English to help students get the most out of the tours, despite the range of skill among the students.

At face value, their offerings may not seem to be the cheapest way to learn Chinese, but given (a) the quality of the content and experiences provided for the money, (b) the relationships you can build with the teachers and other students and staff, and (c) the external motivation and accountability provided by the structured environment/coursework, I think everything GoEast does can fit well into most students' Chinese learning journey. If learning Chinese is something you're serious and passionate about, I strongly recommend checking out GoEast as a partner in your adventures!

Side note: I noticed that the programming and pricing for the Shanghai immersion and Xi'an trips have changed slightly, but I'd be surprised if they were not still excellent values.

I just got back from "China Quest", a one-week intensive course from GoEast in Shanghai, China.

Let me put it this way: if you have the time and can afford it, just sign up.

Every aspect of the trip was on "easy mode": arranging a visa, booking the hotel, airport pickup, and guided tours.

On top of that, the Mandarin instruction was top-notch, the teachers were caring and thoughtful, and the food makes my dining habits back home seem boring.

I came back from this trip with a ton of experience speaking Chinese, and I'm incredibly excited to continue learning. Highly recommended!

GoEast is top notch. I've tried tons of other programs, apps, community college classes, and their teachers and hands down the best. Like any online program (especially language learning) it requires you put in enough time on your own with self study but the teachers are very knowledgable, the materials are easy to understand, and very professional. I'd highly recommend to anyone.

I've taken well over five hundred class hours with GoEast, from zero to upper intermediate/advanced spoken Chinese. The teachers are all professional and work together on the courses. I can now pretty much express everything in Chinese that I want I never imagined I could, but with GoEast I did!

I have studied HSK1 with Go East and I am now half way though HSK2. It’s a fantastic course and the progress is noticeable. It’s great to start to understand conversations happening around me. Highly recommend this excellent language school!

So far I took HSK1 and HSK2 lessons, 4 hours per week, with Sophia as teacher. We are a class of 3/4 students.
The staff is friendly and helpful, the facilities are convenient, and the lessons make us noticeably progress in Chinese.
10/10 would recommend.

I've been studying with GoEast since 2020. I started at Shanghai campus. I am now attending class online, even if I am back to France because I definitely wanted to keep studying with GoEast! I've had 3 different teachers and they are all great: clear explanations, adapt to student and friendly. Material to prepare classes is intuitive and allow smoothly learn new words and grammar. People at GoEast are seeking for feedback from students and very responsive to students' needs.
I would highly recommend GoEast to anyone who wants to learn Mandarin!

Excellent fun course. We absolutely love it.. The content is structured really well. It’s very encouraging and motivates to continue. Enrollment was a breeze with many payment options. The teacher is really good. It’s great to see their passion. The coordinator and teacher speak and understand English well, which helps. They worked with us at very stage and were always available. I was shopping around for language schools when I came across GoEast's website and YouTube channel. The fact that GoEast shares engaging, high-quality Chinese language-learning resources for free -- with comments of thanks from people all over the world! -- shows their passion for sharing Chinese language and culture. Their generosity in sharing resources was what prompted me to visit the school.

The first time I walked into GoEast's French Concession campus, I was struck by how modest the space was -- modest in a good way, because it gives you the sense that they invest in teaching quality, not in a fancy space full of frilly bells and whistles. But what really sold me on that first visit was meeting with my language consultant, Liz. I told her my goal, which might be a bit ambitious: To take the HSK 5 exam and apply for a masters program taught in Chinese (I did say it was a bit ambitious!). Right away, Liz charted out what I would need to do to accomplish this goal, along with a rough schedule for registering for the exam, applying for scholarships, and so on. The way she showed me all the steps really moved me! It was the first time somebody had talked to me in a way that made me believe my goal was really achievable, just because she talked like she believed it even though we'd only just met. Since then, Liz has helped me register for the HSK exam, printed off admission materials from different universities, and helped me with the whole process -- all on her own initiative. I'm so grateful.

Now onto the lessons! I've been taking offline one-on-one classes with my teacher 诗诗 (Shishi) for four months now. Our first lesson relied on a slide deck, but I gave the feedback that I didn't really like the pace, so we don't use slide decks any more -- just a whiteboard and marker. I don't really know anything about pedagogy, but 诗诗 speaks to me only in Chinese, which forces me to think and answer only in Chinese as well. 诗诗 is kind, passionate about teaching, and very fun to talk to -- and she's excellent at explaining concepts when the HSK textbook might be confusing. I am pretty sure she adjusts her diction to suit my level, and she weaves in vocabulary that's relevant to my interests, as well as slang, and recommends TV shows and movies that I might like. Every couple of days, 诗诗 assigns homework beyond the workbook and textbook exercises, like writing sentences or short essays using new vocabulary or grammar structures. (I actually find the homework quite fun!)

When I started at GoEast, I was afraid to open my mouth. But in just a few months, I've became much more confident in expressing myself, to the point where sometimes I can't even believe how the words seem to flow out of my mouth by themselves. I sometimes even feel like I can't shut up! I never thought I'd feel that way about speaking Chinese.

It's also clear that 诗诗 and Liz sync periodically about my progress, which I appreciate a lot! It feels like I've got a team supporting me in my goals -- it's a really nice feeling. Anyway, if you're looking for a Chinese language school, I'd recommend GoEast in a heartbeat.

Since one year I study already with GoEast. I started as a total beginner and I'm about to finish HSK3 now. For me the system they are using is very convenient to make simple and quick very good progress. I'm looking forward to completing HSK4 in 2022 with as much fun as in 2021.

Studying with GoEast is an excellent way to improve your Chinese skills. I'm taking an online course now. The self-study materials are very easy to follow, and the live class sessions are well structured. My teacher is always prepared and manages to make class challenging and fun. The class has definitely helped me make progress.

I came across Go East Mandarin School when in Shanghai. It was the most beautiful part of my trip. I started learning Chinese and now I am still studying with them from Italy thanks to online classes. I believe it is the best school you can find. It is not only a school, it is a family.

I have been studying with GoEast for three months, and have just renewed for another year as it has been such a good experience. I have lived in China for many years, am currently studying HSK 5, and signed up for lessons with a goal of improving the complexity of my Chinese speaking and grammar patterns. My teacher (Andie) is always well prepared and patiently answers all my questions in detail. I have been really pleased with the convenience of the online platform and the quality of Andie's teaching. In comparison with other studying methods that I've used in the past, I've found that GoEast provides good value for money, and the twice-weekly online classes give me the structure that I need to move through the material.

The best experience for me so far. I live and work in Shanghai and after multiple attempts with different teachers and schools I found GoEast. I take private classes as it gives me the needed flexibility to align with my job. The hard copy text books and workbooks are the best I have seen in my learning journey and a rich source for self study. GoEast offers also lots of additional online courses. I like the location of the GoEast campus in the heart of Shanghai and can change to online classes too with my teacher whenever needed. And last but not least a professional experienced teacher who patiently guides me along the HSK system from level to level, a joy to work with. I am already learning since 2 years now with GoEast and I intend to do so for the years to come :)

I have to say that I am impressed by this school. I registered 6 months ago and just signed again for 6 more months. The quality of the materials is very good. I really appreciate their system (preview a class, then practicing with the teachers, and every 5 lessons having a review class), I find this rhythm very effective. Teachers are qualified, enthusiastic, and we can feel their passion of teaching. I also like their efforts to prepare events where students can meet. The administration team is efficient and super welcoming. I encourage you to visit their page !

GoEast has great teachers and a strong student community. This mix really helped me learn Mandarin quickly and comprehensively as I completed my graduate studies in Shanghai. In the end I met most of my best friends in Shanghai through GoEast classes or events! Would highly recommend

GoEast showed me it is really possible to get to know the reading mandarin which is so essential to get deeper knowledge about the Chinese culture from a not only occidental approach. I am very happy with my progress and do recommend for those who like me want to get success in this challenging experience !

What I like about Go East learning is that they help you learn using many methods for each lesson. Reviewing each word's meaning and usage, videos that allow you to listen to native speakers and answer questions about the conversation, flash cards in Pinyin and Hanzi, a grammar section, independent quizzes to see how you are doing as you go along, and a Chinese culture section at the end of each lesson. My teacher is very patient and works at my pace. She makes me feel as though I am her only student as she remembers conversations we have had previously and discusses real life situations when speaking in Chinese so they are more applicable to daily life.

My teacher is INCREDIBLE. I also love the program's self study tools and set up. It's super helpful for the student that is ambitious and wants to learn Chinese at their pace! I do wish there was more speaking opportunities--but my teacher is incredible and I enjoy every session with her and learn LITERALLY so much.

Great course, lots of resources available, and my teacher is super helpful and good at explaining all the answers to my questions. I really enjoy the lessons and it's made me more interested in learning Chinese.
