Three week stay in two priory group…

Three week stay in two priory group hospitals. Abysmal treatment at both Finch Ward in Wolverhampton and Aspen Ward in Birmingham. From the cleaners to the consultant doctors treatment was shockingly bad. Highly unrecommended

Needs improving in all areas - Not adequate

Worrying impression right from the start. The admission process was terrible, with no reassurance from the staff checking to see if our teenager was ok (they were visibly shaking and crouched, head down). They did not respond to the distressed body language and fired one question after another - it felt like a tick box exercise and we were just simply yet another number. The place felt like a prison with a very oppressive feel about it and we had wondered what on earth had we done to hand our child over to people who did not show any warmth or compassion from the outset or during the stay. They did not understand how frightening an admission to an inpatient unit can be. It soon became apparent from every visit that it was like the blind leading the blind, with mostly agency staff having their own interpretation of the rules. This made it easy for the adolescents to get away with a lot of things they shouldn't have. The staff were not observant or proactive, or indeed interested. We caught agency staff sleeping or on their phones whilst on duty on three occasions - and these are people who are paid to do the job of looking after vulnerable young people with poor mental health..! The permanent staff on the ward were rude to both patients and parents on many occasions and we wondered what on earth they were doing working in a role which they clearly didn't enjoy doing..! Surely at the very basis of an inpatient unit staff should be treating patients with care and compassion. The calibre of staff really let the whole unit down and some were truly shocking in what they said and did. The whole place is grubby, run down and in need of an overhaul. The showers were frequently out of action or flooded. The food, re-heated by a well known contractor, was of poor quality and tepid. We didn't meet any parents who did not have a complaint about the quality of care their child was receiving. As parents we would most definitely not recommend the Priory to treat your young person as an NHS patient. There are far too many 'room for improvement' areas to be worked on. If the unit was ever up to a good standard, then it has very clearly hit a downward slope and is in rapid decline. It really needs to be closed down. NHS patients do not deserve this poor standard of care. No one does.

Wasn’t the right fit for me

I didn’t have a great experience personally based on some personal issues I was going through at the time (which is the point of going to a specialist) however the group was kind enough to refund my appointment.

Unfortunately I messed up in the Priory…

Unfortunately I messed up in the Priory Chelmsford last year as I got too cocky and managed to get alcohol brought in. I have mixed feelings about the experience as I was on the Alcohol programme which I met many lovely people but my concerns of why I started drinking at the Age of 22 , I know now were due to the severe anxiety and depression due to previous stuff in my childhood and being diagnosed at the age of 53 with ADHD, I would have liked to explore this more and have a one to one therapist during my stay , but I probably should have stuck up for myself , as I didn’t quite get the answer or counselling that I possibly needed so me being me I would sort of rebel like a kid. I cannot take away the good memories I had at the priory and also the work of the lovely therapists, volunteers, all the caring staff , and the most wonderful ,intelligent set of people in my group in our little team (and believe it or not we did have some very good laughs etc). I wish I didn’t have such a stupid impulsive ADHD Nature that tends to self sabatage but hopefully things have worked out well for my muckers within the group.PS the food was delicious

Don't expect medical treatment here

This place (The Roehampton Priory) basically just provides accommodation and food - with suicide watch. The medical treatment is not tailored to the patient and the therapy is just on the lines of 'one size fits all.' One-on-one therapy is only once a week and there is little continuity of therapists. Recommending CBT to patients who are not thinking rationally makes no sense at all. Discharge was handled with extreme negligence. Not enough medication provided, and even though the relevant surgery told the Priory that the patient was not registered with them yet, they failed to alert the family and discharged patient 'to the surgery' (the final registration stage had to be done by the patient and the consultant was asked to check on this). This was callous and negligent. There was no post-discharge treatment plan or follow-up provided. And the consultant who had agreed to be certificate provider on the Health LPA (he confirmed this thrice on a recorded call) then refused to do so, causing further delay in patient's treatment. Moreover, when this was brought to the attention of the Medical Director (via post and email)he did not even have the courtesy to reply. Our patient was a resident for 6 months (sept 23-feb24). So this 'hospital' is just a safe place with food and some sort of routine thrown in. The ward staff is very pleasant, some really lovely people, there but the medical treatment is not good. Better to go to a proper hospital like the Nightingale and to find a responsible and professional psychiatrist.

Dreadful service

Didn't even get past their helpline. Astonishingly bad service. Unable to answer extremely simple questions about their service without completing a referral first. Like talking to a robot. Well thanks, but I'll take my business to someone who actually values it.

Find another provider

The psychiatrist I spoke to (who was going to assess my daughter for ADHD) was very unprofessional and said I was lying about the cost I was quoted by 3 different people when I called to enquire. They also seemed to not be aware of neuro diversity masking as they didn't understand why my daughter didn't show many symptoms at school compared to the whirlwind at home. Stay away. I cancelled the assessment and requested a refund.

Treated with dignity?

Residential care for mental illness. Food has become worse quality over time, ignoring principles of 5 a day, although I'm sure they would say they provide fruit which would cover this.
Washing machine broken for over 2 weeks and at least 1 resident sleeping on a plastic mattress with a urine soaked duvet to cover them. Said resident unable to go to a laundrette due to mental health condition.
Staff inadequately trained, as poor understanding of enduring mental health issues and needs and the different presentations.
Where's the dignity and respect?

Unfortunately

Unfortunately, I found the doctors to be overly clinical and detached, almost to the point of being psychotic. There was a noticeable lack of empathy in their approach, which made the already challenging process of recovery feel even more isolating. It’s crucial in such a sensitive setting for medical professionals to show compassion and understanding, but this was sadly missing during my treatment.

For anyone considering Priory Hospital North London as option, please avoid, perhaps exploring other options where the medical staff might be more empathetic and supportive.

Failure of duty of care. Negligent.

Not a place to go if you want to receive care. Staff are mainly locum, agency. They spend most of their time on their phones, asleep or in staff rooms. Total failure in duty of care. Total failure of any care whatsoever. So run down, grubby and lacking in any attempt to make the surroundings conducive to recovery. All the company wants is your money.

Don’t ever write reviews but The Priory Roehampton is shockingly terrible

I don’t usually write reviews but this place is shocking. I was waiting 2 hours at reception for someone to pick me up. I arrived at 6.30pm and wasn’t taken to my ‘ward’ until 8.30pm and then was asked right away to do a mental health assessment for an hour which isn’t good that late in the day. Then, I was sent to my room and it wasn’t clean (hair in shower, mould in bath, carpet not hoovered, dirty bed shirts & bed not made) on arrival. The rooms and communal areas are worse than student living in terms of quality. Every meal time, something either either gone wrong with my order and been missing, or they have missed my meal altogether and I have to keep reminding staff that I need my meal that hasn’t been delivered. The ‘Morning Walk’ on Day 3 that was on the schedule hasn’t happened even though I’ve been reminding staff for the last hour I’ve been waiting, and despite being an ‘informal’ patient who self-admitted here due to several assaults/court cases and family bereavements, I am not allowed to go for walks or leave the grounds due to being a ‘new’ patient and needing to see a doctor for a full ‘assessment’ before I’m allowed. I am voluntarily here and not suicidal, yet in a ward with many people who have been sectioned to be here and I am being treated as if I have been sectioned (constantly interrupted with knocking on my door to check I haven’t killed myself even though every patient here says this lack of privacy does nothing for their mental health as it’s clear they are only doing this to make sure we don’t kill ourselves on their watch). Not only that, but the 2 sessions I went to yesterday were ‘tips’ for managing depression and anxiety which were very basic, targeted more for children even though everyone in the room were sane, intelligent adults who are here due to trauma. The Care Quality Commission needs an urgent re-assessment of the standards of The Priory.

Avoid; horrific experience

I’m a cognitive behavioural counselling psychotherapist specialising in substance dependency. I was contacted by a Locum recruitment agency, which normally I wouldn’t touch with a bargepole. Agencies tend to be, in the main, unethical with zero morals or integrity.

Against my better judgement, I was hooked in by the agency ‘2 Recruitment’ who headhunted me and essentially told me that Priory Group wanted to hire me for between £40 and £50 per hour.

I provided all my credentials including academic qualifications, enhanced DBS certificate and client testimonials. The agency in question advised me that Priory Group wanted to interview me on Friday 15th March 2024. I, therefore, cleared my diary in order to comply, being accommodating and flexible.

There was no interview.

The reason why I’m leaving this review for The Priory is that I contacted several people within the organisation about this position and the interview. This was on Saturday 16thMarch 2024. I’ve not heard back from Priory Group. They’ve completely ignored my emails and efforts to make contact.

Priory Group, like all addiction and mental health treatment centres are ruthlessly commercial and have little to no regard for the patients they serve and take extortionate amounts of money from.

Once I’d lost multiple days of my time being wasted and without an interview, Priory Group offered £35 per hour.

I find these practices wholeheartedly unorthodox, unethical, unprofessional, and mercenary.

Think about it. If this is how Priory Group treat its staff, think how they must treat their patients.

My advice is to steer well clear and avoid at all costs.

Shocking company to work for

Shocking company to work for, lack of support as an employee expected to work with very little guidance, moral boost or respect. When things becoming challenging rather than face it swept it under the rug. Management heavy and money making. ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.

Severe depressive disorder leading to suicide attempt

I will be eternally grateful for the treatment I received at The Priory Roehampton
I was an inpatient for 4 weeks, the therapy received during that period was exceptional, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful & made my stay as beneficial as possible
Expert one to one situation in the gym together with Tai Chai classes plus two sessions with the expert masseur gave me good guidance for regaining my fitness
If you have mental health problems go there ASAP

Best thing I’ve ever done

Best thing I’ve ever done, i come into this place without the feeling of wanting to be alive anymore, everything from the staff to the food, was absolutely spot on. The general therapy that you get is honestly some of the best you can receive as I’ve been through this before personally. If you were hesitant about this place, I encourage you to come it’s changed my life.

The staff were unqualified

The staff were unqualified, medical doctors had no idea about treating mental or substance disorders. Most of the counselling staff were from an addiction group like AA or NA!

Priory group tolerates bad practice by wicked nurses who yelled at patients and staff

Priory group s a very good company to work for l, BUT, only when management and nurses are NOT from the same country. If they are, other staff are always put in trouble. They even shout at
colleagues from different countries and when you
report them, management
does nothing.
Wrong people at wrong place spoil Priory group image.
Racist and discrimination.
I am one of the staff who had been subject to humiliation, shouted and yelled at. Threatened to sent an HR letter not to come to work anymore. This kindvof bully exist at Avesbury House, Priory group and when reported nothing is done to her. Imagine how it is to work over there.
