positivity wherever possible
I have decided to write this review because I am tired of seeing negative comments in the press and on social media about M&S. Yes, there are sometimes challenges when living in a communal setting, some of which did come as a learning curve for me, mainly with the expectations of fellow residents rather than issues with M&S. M&S is not a perfect company but then which company is? It is after all a business run by human beings, and they need to make a profit. The main negatives I feel with the company is lack of communication, with seemingly in some depts regualr staff changes which is not helpful with communication and yes it does sometimes feel that they forget that we were all once (and most of us still are) sensible, educated, experienced folk.
Having said all that, I was very careful when I bought my apartment, I actually read my lease which seems to be a bit of a novelty, I asked questions beforehand and made my decision carefully.
Overall I am very happy to be living here. I am one of the younger residents, as when I moved, I didn't want the hassle of moving again when I will not be so capable to do so. I can come and go as I please, knowing that my apartment is secure. We have a wonderful House manager who will go above and beyond her role. I have made some good friends here, which is fun. I know that reselling might be an issue as it is everywhere in the country at the moment, but who knows what will happen to the market in the future. My family knows not to expect a fortune when I die and they are happy with that.
Would I like anything else from M&S, Yes, a second bedroom, a craft room on site, oh and a swimming pool in the garden, preferably heated! But as none of that is mentioned in my lease, I will of course just happily wait for the lottery to come up (which I don't actually do) and I will not expect M&S to provide me with these items.
Advice to anyone thinking of moving into residential living.

Follow the lease
Community living can be an interesting experience but you will soon get used to it, after all, that's the point of moving to a retirement complex, to have people around you when you need company and friendship.
If you do your homework then there is no need to be grumbling afterwards.
Be positive wherever possible.

Returning Home.
In August my Mum came out of Respite after having a fall.
Jenny the House Manager was so kind and helpful arranging a care-package for her and tailoring it to her needs.
She visited the Care home to assess whether Mum was ready to come home giving her the confidence to return.
Jenny, Kerry, Shannon, Brooke and the Whole Lancer House Team were so caring, helping Mum get back into her routine in a sensitive way.
Mum had missed everyone and it was lovely to see her chatting with her friends again over lunch in the Bistro.

Good Managers make the world of difference
My grandparents moved to a new McCarthy & Stone development 11 years ago. They have a lovely 22ft balcony overlooking the sea. Despite the building having many challenges over the years and many managers, it was a very good move for them.
I would like to make a special mention to Jo Blick - Product Customer Liason Manager - who has covered managing Pavilion Court for the last 18months, whilst extensive building work has taken place. As I said above, we have had many managers over the years, and Jo has by-far been the best.
Her efficiency, experience and knowledge makes you feel assured that my grandparents are safe.
She is worth her weight in GOLD. The support and kindness she has shown to me and my grandparents has been outstanding. Her bedside manner is second to none, and we will be very sad to see her move on to her next project.
3 stars for Mccarthy and Stone. 5 stars +++ for Jo - Thank you for everything.

Just enjoyed a lovely family barbecue with my wife, son and mum, who is a resident at Glen Hill’s Court in Blaby, Leicestershire. Mum lived at Rivers Edge Court in Okehampton which was perfect due to its location. It was also a comfort to know that Cathy the manager was always on hand to provide support whenever it was needed. Having been to visit Trinity Court…
Having been to visit Trinity Court today in Halifax we were shown around by the Manageress Debbie . We were disappointed we couldn’t immediately purchase an apartment. Caveat: Go into a McCarthy &Stone Property purchase with all the facts and your eyes wide open…
Our Dad lived at Kenton Lodge for over 5 years, he was safe, secure, very well looked after and enjoyed his time there. The staff were fantastic, always cheerful and helpful. The grounds and communal spaces were always pristine. When we had to sell the sales team were excellent, lots of viewings and eventually a sale although we had to sell at half the price we had paid for it 6 years earlier and it took over 18 months to sell, but the new owner has now got a wonderful apartment at a great price. - Current market forces ! Thank you to everyone we met at Kenton Lodge.

Our new home…
When we were looking to move over to Altrincham from Yorkshire, we viewed several apartments. Speakman Court stood out for us. On entering the building we found a lovely warm and friendly atmosphere. Alex the house manager welcomed us and was very approachable.
Alex is very caring and certainly looks after all the residents. She really does go the extra mile. She brings people together and introduces new residents like ourselves to the other residents. She has created a community within the complex and her door is always open for advice or just a chat.
I am so pleased we chose Speakman Court as our residence and to know Alex. As house manager, she is a great asset for McCarthy Stone and we are very lucky to have her. Thank you Alex, for being you and doing such a wonderful job. I really appreciate all you do for us.
