Chaos from start to finish
I doubt there is a worse airport in Europe. From the drop off shambles to the check-in shambles to the food offering shambles to the passport check mistakes to the lack of seating at the gate to the delayed flight. Will actively avoid using this airport again.
The worst airport I have ever been to
The worst airport I have ever been to. 4 hour queues to check in. Delayed passport control. Overcrowded. Luggage not loaded onto plane so now without all bags. Rude staff. Never again
Astonished at sheer incompetence
Astonished at the consistency of incompetency. Everything went wrong, from arriving to departing. The three hour que on arrival was not punishing enough. The attendents revelled in having UK arrivals use the Brexit que, whispering gleefully "remember Brexit". Missed the transfer... had to get a cab for a 3 hour journey to slopes. Incredibly... the experience leaving Geneva was even worse... 1 hour que to get into the airport. Then a 1 hour scramble to find a person who knew what to do as baggage belt was broken... nothing. The managers threw a few teenagers to manage a stressful situation. They had no logistical training. Three flights of people had to carry bags onto the plane after a 2 hour passport control. What astonished me the most was that they explained fragments of the situation and solutions to different passengers. Great if you are a wizz at jigsaw puzzles. They had tannoys but somehow chose not to use them. Maybe they enjoyed shepherding people randomly into ques and shrugging. A lady actually fainted and was left on the floor and not helped in any way. Perhaps Farage is taking notes and will hire the staff to help stop boats arriving at Dover. The Swiss have found the best way of discouraging anyone wishing to enter their country...
Avoid at all costs
Just flew in today. After a three hour delay due to a faulty plane, imagine our disgust at having to queue for 90 minutes just to reach a passport control officer - who was nonchalant at best about our plight. Absolutely insane. We’ve been flying into GVA for almost 50 years now and it’s never been this appaulling. Countless passport control kiosks not in use as well. My poor sister, flying out of GVA today back to LHR, was stuck trying to check in for THREE HOURS?!?! And missed her flight. What is going on??
Geneva will lose tourist trade at this point and we will make sure we go via the French side instead. Absolutely insane!
Worst airport ever
Worst airport ever. Queues to get to check in desk were ridiculously long, over 2.5 hours just to check in. Then once through all lounges had queues as did food outlets. Very little positive about this airport. This is not my first experience of the awful queues. Will try to avoid it from now on.
Utter chaos
Utter chaos. 3.5 hours queuing just to check in. Staff clueless and overwhelmed; unable to advise where people should queue. Unable to use self-check in and baggage drop. Baggage didn’t make it onto plane. Baggage belts broke so bags piled up around check in. Everything unacceptably overpriced. Appalling experience overall.
2 hour queue to get through passport…
2 hour queue to get through passport control, none of passport checking machines were working. Asked the staff what was going on and he said there was to many flights to handle. I think they need to fire whoever books the flight slots . I asked did he not know they were coming 😂😂 . Staffs no older than about 16 year old by the look of it. No better on the way home sat over a hour and half on the plane because they had lost 20 bags. Someone needs a kick up the dairy air as it makes one of the best engineering countries in the world look part time .
Don’t visit this country
FYI: I posted this originally on Google reviews but google didn’t publish this review without any explanation.
I’ve travelled across the world but never felt so helpless while travelling. Not only is Geneva airport the worst to fly from but who on earth keeps passport control right before you enter the flight? I flew back to Heathrow from Geneva yesterday and gate was announced 45 mins prior to the departure and as soon as I started walking to the gate I see swarm of people in the queue it took an hour to go through the passport control and barely made it to board the flight.
Very Poor Design, Layout and processing. Definitely doesn’t run like clockwork
Poor traffic management on arrival then layout of arrivals and departures, poor queue management, security slowed as people having no place to put back on clothes taken off. The security let an old guy through on crutches in front of us but wouldn’t let his son (carer) go with him, despite our protests, as hi son wasn’t disabled. So the old man had to stand waiting for his son for another 10-15mins on the other side of security as no where to sit as needed his son to get through airport. Ignorant member is security team not understanding that a disabled person travels with carers. Just added to even more people clogging up security. Once through everyone then sitting on floor as no seating except if eating or at gates and these were being sat in by people not for that gate but because nowhere else to sit. Shocking as Switzerland has always been to made out to run things like clockwork, but the whole airport from beginning to end diabolical and poorly thought out.
Immigration queue longer than the…
Immigration queue longer than the flight. Avoid if a non eu person on business - clearly Swiss want to lose their mantle as a finance centre.
Obviously reviews mean nothing to…
Obviously reviews mean nothing to Grneva Airport. Travelled here for 40 years, just gets worse. The volume of visitors is clear landing fees are paid no service offered. Slow service in every aspect, no seating business lounges always full. Baggage systems fail totally carnage!
Incompetence case study at all levels
The level of incompetence at this airport covers all levels.
Parkings: wrong road signs, wrong parking status (marked full, but half empty once you arrive on site), no shuttle between remote parkings and the airport, you’re on your own.
Security: you can pass whatever you want. It became a challenge with friends: pass an open knife and 1L of water in a bottle. I already scored 18 times. Security “guards” are just on Instagram, talking about what they did the day before, etc..
Car guides: they are supposed to give you directions depending on what you want. Always wrong. Just brought someone to the airport train station this morning, I asked for a 1 hour covered parking close to the station. They first send me to the kiss & goodbye rapid drop (you are stuck between poles) and wasted 20 minutes there without being able to move. Then they sent me to a non-existant parking far away from the airport and the station. Had to circle back and eventually stopped on y sidewalk to drop my passengers.
Duty “Free”: the only airport in the world where “tax-free” products are about 10-20% more expensive than in regular full-tax stores. They just milk you.
I’m an extremely frequent flyer, live in Geneva, but try to skip it each time I can. I ride the train to the 2nd worst airport in the World: Zurich. This one is the ground level of zero competence, but they still manage to be a bit higher than Geneva.
People in Geneva think they’re playing in the big leagues, the self-proclaimed “International Geneva” (that exists only in their heads) but their signature is mediocrity. I travelled all around the world and even in a remote 3rd world airport, they’re more professional.
This airport should be a case study taught in marketing to highlight everything not to do, everything wrong and mediocre.

Over two hours stuck in the non-EU…
Over two hours stuck in the non-EU passport control queue yesterday with just THREE staff checking passports. No explanation, no apology, and no attempt to improve the situation despite thousands waiting. Easily the worst passport control experience I’ve had anywhere.
The worst
The worst! The queues for passport control took over 1.5hours from non EU countries. Just hire some extra people please. Won’t be coming back.
The arrival queue for passport control…
The arrival queue for passport control was over 3 hours long. No thought given to families with babies, the elderly, disabled or anyone in need. Incredibly rude staff especially the ‘supervisor’. The queue extended the length of C gates terminal and their only solution was to send in FIVE police armed with guns when people were becoming more and more agitated. On arrival in the luggage hall luggage was strewn everywhere and one of our cases (new) was badly damaged. The worst possible airport experience and I’ve had a few! Use other airports - dont use Geneva for your sanity and stress levels
Affligeant
Europe is still sulking at Brexit :)
Both arrival and departure through this airport were extremely poor experiences. Arrivals took over 1.5 hours, and departures nearly an hour, all because of inadequate staffing. What made it even more frustrating was seeing additional staff being used only to manage the upset queues rather than actually process passengers. It genuinely felt intentional. (This is my fourth attempt to post, as Google seems to be suppressing negative reviews.)
Passport control an absolute shambles!!
The worst passport control experience I…
The worst passport control experience I have ever been through in fifty years of travelling. A two hours twenty five minute queue. Zero concern or effort in speeding up the process. Only half the control start are open. Aloof and arrogant staff. Avoid this airport.
