Hey Ragic,

I appreciate you participating during Stage 2 and it sounds like you may not have had a great experience. I do want to clarify, running Grass does not use more electricity than you would already be using normally. The app runs in the background as you use your device so there is no need for additional resources. Also because Grass uses resources that you are already paying for, theres no financial obligation to participate in Grass.

The thing is, you are paying for resources (bandwidth) that you dont use all of so you might as well rent some of it out for a little $$. At the end of the day its not about a small reward or a large reward, its about renting out a resource that large companies have been siphoning from you with you even knowing it and not having any intention of paying you for it.

The published documentation explains that Grass traffic is separated from personal browsing activity, and that Grass does not access users’ browsing history, files, passwords, or private data.

Grass also documents how contributions are measured through Grass Points and explains that rewards are subject to network rules and verification.

Hey Onni,

I can totally understand the disappointment with your rewards. I do want to clarify, the tokenomics doc mentions 170million tokens for future incentives, not stage 2 rewards.

In regards to the rewards..."In the interest of navigating ongoing regulatory uncertainty and to seek to ensure that users based in all eligible jurisdictions may claim rewards in a timely manner, participant rewards for Stage 2 will be made available in USDC"

Hey Sydd,

Grass’s published privacy materials state that personal data is not sold. Grass says it collects only the information needed to operate the network, such as email, username, password, and IP address, and that it does not sell personal data.
Grass also states that its network traffic is separated from personal browsing activity and that Grass cannot access browsing history, passwords, files, or other personal data.
What Grass does provide to verified institutions is access to public web data through contributed unused bandwidth. That is different from selling a user’s personal data.

Hey Hùng,

Grass is an app that you passively download and doesn't cost you anything to run. I would recommend running it on dedicated hardware devices or spending any money on it. It's free and all you have to do is let it run while you go about your day! I would not consider it hard work or anymore more than it would be to just use your device as you normally would!

Grass Points and reward allocations are not based on points alone—they're determined by multiple factors, including network contribution and the reward rules for each allocation.

As documented, earning points does not guarantee a specific reward amount, and reward models can evolve over time (referring to network points being introduced during epoch 11). I know this may not have aligned with your expectations and can totally understand the frustration. I would argue against the waste of resources because the app is running in the background of your device as you use it which takes advantage of resources you are paying for already (so theres no extra commitment needed).

Rewards aren't based only on how long you've been connected or how many people you've referred. They also depend on factors such as network demand, bandwidth contribution, eligibility, and the reward rules in effect during each period. All rewards are subject to system rules and verification.

We're sorry to hear that your rewards didn't meet your expectations.

Rewards are calculated using multiple factors, including eligible network contribution during the earning period, rather than just how long your node has been running. Because of this, users with similar runtimes may receive different reward amounts. Also I'd like to add, Grass is not mining in that traditional sense like you would bitcoin. Grass is actually barely using your computer at all aside from the app running in the background (Grass app uses about 20mb of ram on my Mac and thats it!). The app is simply helping direct web requests for Grass to scrape the public web and your idle bandwidth is helping make that happen!

Hey Archer,

It sounds like you may be disappointed in your rewards or maybe your expectations were not met. Its hard to assess your feedback without anything to really go off of so I'll go with what I started with...

Stage 2 rewards were based on eligible network contribution during the earning period, not just the amount of time a node was online. Multiple factors were considered when calculating rewards, including bandwidth shared, connection quality, uptime consistency, network demand, and other eligibility criteria.

Distribution for Stage 2 favored Network points a bit more than uptimes points. The best way to maximize Network Points was to keep your node online consistently with a stable, high-quality internet connection and remain eligible throughout the earning period. Since rewards are based on overall contribution rather than a single metric, users with similar uptime or internet speeds may still receive different reward amounts.

Hey Sean,

Totally understand the disappointment with getting a lower than expected allocation but I do want to emphasize that Grass does not steal anything from you. When you sign up for the app you are allowing Grass to rent out some of your unused bandwidth and in return you are rewarded for it. The extra boost you are referring to is for new users who sign up for Grass as well those who refer users to the Grass network. Those points are added into your uptime total which goes towards the rewards that you got for stage 2.

Hey Abdullah,

I would love to clear some things up for you! There is no financial obligation to participate in running the Grass app on your device. The app simply runs in the background of the device you use so it's taking advantage of resources you are already in use of. Also, 170 million Grass tokens was never stated to be part of the allocation for stage 2. If you take a deeper look at the Grass tokenomics page youll see 170m tokens are allocated for future incentives which does not specify in detail much further.

In regards to who got more rewards than others...Rewards are calculated based on multiple factors, including eligible network contribution during the earning period, rather than only the total number of points or the length of time a node was running. Because of this, reward amounts can vary between users depending on their individual contribution and eligibility.

Ultimately stage 2 was broken down into two types of points: Network Points and Uptime points. Uptimes points are earned based on having the Grass app and connected (creating availability for your network). Network points are earned when your bandwidth is actually used to help fulfill web requests...

These rewards are calculated using multiple factors, including eligible network contribution during the earning period, rather than simply the number of devices or how long they were running. As a result, users with similar setups may receive different reward amounts.
