Reactive, opaque, and hard to quit — our DPOM experience (Mar–Oct 2025)

We’re a UK wedding & events business. DPOM managed our Google Ads Mar–Oct 2025. After living through declining results, minimal transparency, and a protracted exit, my advice is to proceed with extreme caution.

What actually happened (the short version)

Performance fell off a cliff July–Sept (e.g., conversions dropped from early-summer highs to ~⅓ by September; CPA spiked ~3–4×).

No proactive guidance while results slid. I had to chase a call on 25 Sept to ask what was happening.

Change history shows long inactivity (including an entire 17 Jul–17 Aug billing period with zero logged changes) and flurries of small edits near billing dates.

“A/B testing included” in our package, but no structured tests were ever shared (no hypotheses, variants, dates, results).

Cancellation required an unmonitored mailbox + web form and was met with aggressive, boilerplate replies about notice/billing rather than any attempt to fix things.

Communication & meetings

Securing a meeting felt like pulling teeth. Messages often went unanswered until chased, and suggested times were pushed back. When concerns were finally raised, answers focused on defending the status quo rather than proposing a plan.

“Testing” vs actual A/B testing

The contract promised “essential A/B testing.” In practice, we saw:

Occasional match-type toggles (phrase/exact),

Some negative keywords added,

Bid tweaks—
…with no test plan, no variant naming, no start/stop dates, no success criteria, and no write-ups. That’s hygiene, not an A/B programme. We were given no guidance on ad copy (headlines/descriptions) or creative refresh, despite this being one of the biggest levers in search performance.

Transparency & change history

DPOM repeatedly argued “analysis isn’t visible in the change log.” Fair point: analysis isn’t logged. But outcomes of good analysis are—namely, timely and documented optimisations. What we saw were extended gaps and clusters of tiny edits near billing. If there was a serious testing programme, show the register. We were never given one until pressed, and even then it wasn’t a structured test log.

“Seasonality” (pre-empting the inevitable)

Yes, Q4 demand is lower in our sector. That’s not the issue. The issue is lack of proactive management while performance fell—no early warning, no plan to shift strategy (e.g., future-wedding intent, remarketing, creative refresh, location/schedule refinement). Citing seasonality after the fact is not a strategy.

The “last 30 days” defence

We were repeatedly shown “last 30 vs previous 30” where conversions were up a few and CPA down a bit—after we escalated. That modest uptick doesn’t erase multiple months of decline and silence. It reads as reactive damage control, not evidence of a consistent programme.

Cancellation experience

Cancellation was needlessly painful: an unmonitored mailbox auto-reply, form-only process, and a tone that felt more like threats about “continued billing” than a professional off-boarding. We requested final dates and closed the door.

Likely DPOM replies & our responses (so there’s no confusion)

“Seasonality explains it.”
We know. We factored that in. We expected proactive leadership, not weeks of drift.

“Change logs don’t show analysis.”
Correct. But they do show the timing and substance of actions. Long gaps and last-minute edits don’t look like an active, structured programme.

“Keyword/match/bid tests are A/B testing.”
They can be part of testing, but structured testing has hypotheses, variants, dates, KPIs, and results. We were shown none of that while performance fell.

“We improved the last 30 days.”
Only after we escalated. A slight CPA improvement and a couple more conversions doesn’t rehabilitate months of decline without communication.

“Contract requires 31-day notice.”
We honoured notice. That doesn’t excuse poor service delivery leading up to it, nor does it require leaving the account in their MCC during notice.

Verdict

In my opinion, this was reactive, opaque account stewardship with poor meeting discipline, no visible test programme, and a frustrating cancellation process. We’ve moved on.

Advice to other advertisers

Own your ad account. Don’t let anyone run it solely in their MCC.

Ask for a test register. Hypothesis, variants, dates, KPI, results—every month.

Review change history monthly. Watch for long gaps and end-of-cycle edits.

Expect creative leadership. If no one touches ads/LPs, you’re burning money.

Have an exit plan. Back up campaigns/search terms/change history before any parting of ways.

On cancellation: Our cancellation process is communicated clearly from onboarding - it's simply an email and a short form to ensure we action the correct services. This is standard practice to prevent errors, not a barrier to exit. We're sorry if this felt cumbersome.

On communication: We regret that meeting availability didn't meet your expectations. We do encourage clients to raise concerns promptly, and we're always willing to discuss performance when asked.

On seasonality and performance: Wedding and events is a sector with pronounced seasonal swings. Q4 softness is well-documented in this vertical. While we understand the frustration of declining metrics, comparing peak summer to autumn in this industry requires that context. We did discuss this when you raised concerns in September.

On testing and optimisation: Account optimisation includes ongoing refinements to match types, negatives, bids, and audience signals - work that doesn't always manifest as dramatic change-log entries. We're happy to discuss how we document testing with prospective clients who'd like more granular reporting.

On the "last 30 days": The improvement following our September conversation reflected adjustments we made in response to your feedback. We'd suggest this demonstrates responsiveness rather than the opposite.

I signed up with dpom because I've wasted money on other agencies by listening to their sales patter like "we can grow you business by 30%, no problem, results in 4 weeks, just sign this contract", every single time I was dissapointed. I called dPom and was imediately suprised how hones they were, the chap that answered the phone led with "Look, google ads is going to take 3-6 months to work, if you can't commitfor that long please don't waste your money"

Refreshing.

I'm not 3 months in, and while I'm not where I want to be, i cna see we've grown and the trajectory is positive so people remember, its not about what you want to hear, look for honesty.

Only interested in the monthly fee

I signed up to get this company to do my PPC, SEO, Facebook management and Facebook ads.
They delivered next to zero leads/enquiries every month. I was told it would take 3 months to work until it got to month 4 and then it would take 6 months until things started working.
If i asked a question then it would take on average 3 emails before i got a reply. I also got lied to repeatedly when i called out a mistake eventually to be told “we’re all human”
In my opinion the content was very poor and Ai driven which was probably a main reason why they got little success.
Also please be aware they will charge you a full month after you cancel on top of the month you have already paid in advance.

I have looked back through all my emails to Camilla to make sure i am being accurate and found the following:

The previous person doing only facebook brought me an average of 30 enquiries per month

I switched to DPOM in July and got you to do Facebook management and ads but also SEO and PPC.

In the first month with you this dropped to 5 enquiries. 3 in England, 1 in Northern Ireland and 1 in Scotland. I only cover Scotland.

The “approved” facebook posts were not followed and posts with products i do not have and services i do not offer were posted instead.

I was asked for login details to the website 3 times despite them being sent every time.

I have in 3 separate emails from Camilla that i should start seeing results around month 3

I asked you to remove a photo as i was told i did not have permission to use it. You then posted it again! I asked Camilla to take it down but it stayed up for 3 days. She said it was facebooks fault. Then i was the only person that saw it. Then she said we are only human and all make mistakes when called out each time.

You also posted another facebook post with a product i did not offer with a broken link.

W.r.t questions and answers looking through the emails:
i had to ask 2 times to get an answer 6 times.
I had to ask 3 times to get an answer 5 times.
I had to ask 4 times to get an answer 2 times.
I had to ask 7 times to get an answer 1 time.

This was all over a 4 month period but apart from that i would say you were great!!

Regarding timelines: Our website, quotes, contracts, and welcome emails all clearly state that results typically take 3-6 months to materialise. This is published prominently on our Transparency Guarantee page and has never changed. We are upfront about this from the very first interaction because we believe in setting realistic expectations.

Regarding cancellation terms: Our 31-day notice period is clearly stated on our website, in your signed contract, and in your welcome pack. This is standard practice and ensures you receive a full month of service following your cancellation. These terms were available to you before signing up.

Regarding the mistake: Yes, during the early stages of managing your account, we used an incorrect image on one Facebook post. We acknowledged this immediately, apologised, and provided additional posts at no charge by way of apology. We are human, and occasional errors do happen – what matters is how they are handled.

Regarding communication: We respond to all client queries and have records of our correspondence. We're sorry if our response times did not meet your expectations.

We pride ourselves on being one of the most transparent agencies in the UK. We publish our pricing, our timelines, our cancellation terms, and our processes publicly – something very few agencies do. Been with DPOM for about 4 months now…

Been with DPOM for about 4 months now and honestly, wish I’d found them sooner. We were trying to run our own Google Ads and it was a mess - burning through budget with nothing to show for it.
The thing I love about DPOM is they don’t BS you. The monthly reports actually make sense, no confusing jargon or random metrics that don’t mean anything. They show you exactly what’s happening with your money and what’s working. Plus there’s a client portal where I can check in anytime I want, which is great when I’m obsessing over numbers at 11pm.
My account manager actually gets back to me quickly and explains things in normal English. They’re always tweaking things and suggesting improvements rather than just leaving everything on autopilot. Such a refreshing change from the last agency we used where getting a response took days.

I’ve had one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a marketing company. I hired DPOM LTD to manage my Google Ads campaign, and it turned out to be a complete waste of money. After paying £495 + VAT for their management service, I received only one extremely poor-quality lead during the entire month.
After questioning the poor results and the lack of regular updates, I was reminded that their contract requires a 30-day notice period to cancel. This essentially meant that even though the first month delivered almost nothing for me, I was still expected to pay for another month of service.

From what I experienced, DPOM LTD appeared to be more focused on enforcing their contract terms than on delivering any genuine value. For the amount I spent, I felt I got very little back — barely any communication, no worthwhile outcomes, and no real sense of responsibility for the campaign.

You were with us a total of 3 weeks before cancelling. At no point did we ever indicate results were possible in this period. In fact - our website, quote, even this Trustpilot profile states it can take 3 months to see results.

If you don’t give us the time we say we need from the start, you will always be disappointed.

1. You were told repeatedly that Google Ads takes 3 to 6 months to produce reliable results.
This is stated in your quote, contract and even on this Trustpilot profile. You cancelled after just over 3 weeks, which is far too early for any Google Ads campaign to perform.

2. Communication was daily.
As an Elite customer, you received the highest level of support we offer. Our logs show frequent messages, updates and ongoing optimisation throughout your time with us.

3. All work was delivered exactly as agreed.
Your account was built, monitored and optimised every week. It was still in Google’s learning phase when you cancelled early.

4. The 31-day notice period was part of your signed contract.
You accepted this before onboarding. It wasn’t added later, and it applies to every client equally.

The reality is simple. You ended the service far earlier than the timeframe you were informed was needed for results, and your expectations did not match what you signed for.

Setup Timeframe: Campaigns take 7–10 working days to build and launch. Cancelling after just a few days meant the campaigns were still in setup and could never have been live immediately.

Excellent Service and Real Results

I was initially nervous about investing in SEO again, having had a poor experience with another company in the past. As a small business, it felt like a big step. Dpom have been instrumental for my business.
I am in the tourism industry, Greece mainly and we wanted to target UK visitors to sell rooms
In various properties we operate.

Dpom suggested we try google ads and we signed up for their standard package. It took a couple of months to really start making a difference but tourism is slower during the early year so that was fine. Now we are getting more bookings and summer is filling up fast. When we are full we will stop the service and restart for the next service so it’s ideal we only have to give a month notice.
