Abysmal uncaring and disinterested

Sadly my experience at Boots Hearingcare in Yeovil was dreadful. I was (understandably?) nervous as I have never had a hearing test before and chose to book with Boots based on the TV / Radio adverts which suggest a caring and thorough appointment, how wrong could this be. The audiologist couldn’t have been more dismissive and disinterested, after 60 second inspection I was told ‘it’s blocked wax’ with no further comment forthcoming let alone advice provided… I enquired further as to the next steps and he replied ‘might be a referral but your GP may or may not do it’ … ‘alternatively there is a place two doors up the road that offer wax removal’.

The attitude was shocking, the care was non-existent and the interest in my issue could not scrape beyond ‘zero’. My suggestion is avoid at all costs … ‘pay for a proper appointment with a real professional , it’s worth every penny,

I tried several times to ring Boots…

I tried several times to ring Boots hearing aid care without success.
In Yeovil they have moved from an address near to the main Boots, this had a reception attached and you would have your request dealt with straight away. The hearing aid care has now moved to the top floor of Boots pharmacy. I couldn't receive a response whatever I did. So I turned up at Boots for the second time and finally was seen.
My hearing aid on the left hasn't been working for sometime and I couldn't change the earwax protection with the CeruShield disk. The assistant changed the cable and this is working fine. However I am very disappointed that there is no reception and if you need anything like a CeruShield disk you have to arrange an appointment through a now complicated and dysfunctional system.
I was shocked to be told that my hearing aids were of a basic standard when getting them repaired. This indeed was a surprise because they cost me £3,300.

Turned away because of my age!

I honestly don’t know where to start with this review! I feel totally humiliated and dismissed. I booked an online appointment for a hearing test and to talk about hearing aid options. I have been seen by an NHS ENT and an audiologist both of which told me I have hearing loss in my left ear and would benefit from a hearing aid. They have referred me to have an nhs hearing aid fitted but on reflection i decided to go private to see if I could have a more discrete hearing aid. Upon arriving for my appointment I was asked why I was there and that I was too young to need their services! They were stood around chatting when I arrived and I got the impression that I was a massive inconvenience! They had clearly already decided that due to my age they were not going to help me! They spoke to the audiologist to see if he was happy to test my hearing. I explained I had been advised a hearing aid was advised by the nhs and the reasons why. He told me my hearing should return and that I should just see the NHS audiology department to see what else they can do! I was in there less than 2 minutes and was sent on my way feeling very embarrassed! If boots don’t want to see people under the age of 50 why allow people to book these appointments to then be humiliated?! I selected under 50 on the appointment request and that I had had hearing loss confirmed! Surly someone could have called me to say they didn’t feel their services were for me rather than waste my time coming in?! It’s upsetting enough dealing with being told that you have hearing loss with out then being embarrassed by being told your to young! Come away feeling so upset and unsure what to do next! I have been made to feel that hearing loss at my age should just be ignored and put up with! Very disappointed!

Very pleased with whole experience.

Very pleased. Answered all my questions re hearing aid suitable to my lifestyle; felt comfortable in test situation and could try the proposed hearing aid for comfort and sound quality actually at the time without feeling pressured. Eddy was a pleasure to deal with, explaining my type of hearing loss to both my husband and myself which was extremely helpful.

Drove 18 miles and refused hearing test

Drove 18 miles for a free hearing test. On arrival I was told "we will not be carrying out a test on you today as you already have been diagnosed with hearing loss." I told them this when making an appointment so why get me there only to offer me a paid consultation Total waste of time and petrol. Staff there were almost rude.

I had the worst experience here and…

I had the worst experience here and left in tears and made to feel very embarressed. This was a while ago but it still upsets me to think about it. I had been worried about my hearing for a while. Struggle to hear and also thought I might have wax build up. The GP no longer will remove wax but boots hearing care states they can do this. I found online the offer of a free hearing test and then possible diagnoses of wax removal and finally got the guts to book a test. When I arrived I was met by an awkward looking admin who let the audiologist know I was there. She came out and asked me if I had booked the appointment for myself. She then made a judgement that I was too young to have any hearing problems and it was very rare for somemone my age to need any treatment and said I didn't need the appointment. I didnt know what to do so just accepted it and left feeling mortified. She made me feel stupid and didn't even take the time to consider why I felt the need to book the appointment in the first place. Very ageist. What if I had been one of the few that did need treatment?! I still have concerns about my hearing but have never followed up on it because of this horrible lady that made me feel so awful. I feel sick remembering it. Awful place. I suggest Boots make ot clear the free hearing tests they advertise are only for the elderly. Worth mentioning the place was empty aswell. Not like she had other patients waiting.

Charlie the audiologist was amazing

Charlie the audiologist was amazing. She put me at ease straightaway, she listened to me explained everything, ensuring I understood everything.
My hearing test results were that I had a heating loss. Charlie explained all about the different hearing aids. She didn't push me into making a purchase. When I did decide, she explained all I needed to know about payment and payment plans.
Charlie made my next appointment l, and then explained the follow up process.

An exceptional first appointment

A pleasant welcome when we arrived and an very warm, thorough and professional examination by the audiologist, Charlotte Clements. I have had a hearing loss and been wearing hearing aids for over 45 years and this is one of the most considerate examinations I have had. I can thoroughly recommend this aspect of the service. I wait to see whether the new aids live up to my expectations when I receive them.
