OneKey Cash is useless and a waste of time.
OneKey Cash does not give you much of an incentive to use them. Very little "cash" accrues even for more expensive bookings. I had a small amount of OneKey cash through VRBO to use for a new booking, however, I didn't know I had to use it on the FIRST installment of my payment for the rental. VRBO will not give you credit on your second installment, it HAS to apply to the first. Therefore, since my small amount of OneKey cash was expiring in a month, it was all going to waste. What's the sense of all that trouble for absolutely nothing in return? Don't even sign up, and don't use VRBO. It's a total waste of your time that you will never get back.
Scam apartments on platform and won’t reimburse me for replacement they told me to book
Please please PLEASE stay away from Vrbo. I accidentally booked a scam apartment for NYE. No contact from the host at all and he wouldn’t answer my calls/texts. Looked the property up on other booking websites & it was also booked out on my day - shock! Vrbo tried to get in touch with him too but he didn’t answer them either - double shock! So they said they would refund me in full and told me to look for another accommodation work £462 as they had none on their site to give me. So I did. Thinking everything would be hunky dory. They did refund me for the initial apartment but to this day it’s been hell trying to chase them to be reimbursed for the hotel THEY told ME to book. I’ve sent the details they have asked for multiple times. I’ve called multiple times. I keep being told there’s no direct way for me or the Vrbo customer service team to contact the team that handles reimbursements directly. So all they can do is leave a note on my case. They can’t even give me a timeline for when I’ll get refunded. As I booked the hotel on my credit card, I’m now being charged interest as it’s taking so long. I regret ever discovering Vrbo!!!
One star is too high for Vrbo!
One star is too high for Vrbo!
This company couldn’t care less about the standards of the properties advertised on their site. The lead member of our party, has just written an honest and frank review of the property we stayed in (at Vrbo’s request for feedback) and after just 20 minutes the review was removed. They talk about “trust” on their promo page but if negative reviews are immediately removed from the publics view they are, at best not being transparent and at worst profiting from peddling lies and mis information.
We stayed in a rental property titled Stunning 6 bedroomed Mansion with swimming pool and tennis court in West Horsley, Surrey, UK. The house (Hornbeam) was to be a special, large family gathering for Christmas, as a member of the family has terminal cancer and is very ill. The rental paid was very expensive, reflecting the Christmas premium and after staying in the property we can now say it was extortionate!
To say the property was a disappointment would be putting it very mildly indeed. On arrival we needed to wash dirty cutlery, some of which had been put back in the drawer totally unwashed and covered in food. The fridges were not clean, they needed cleaning too and the kitchen was woefully insufficient for a house of this size regarding plates, glasses and cups and cutlery. There were three milk pan sized saucepans in a house that was to cater for 15 people at Christmas! Basic stuff.
Bathroom door handles were missing on the inside of two of the bathrooms so that the doors couldn’t be closed. Shower screens were broken and in one bathroom, missing completely. Many of the light bulbs were either missing or the lights didn’t work. The house was very dark in the evenings because of the lack of lightbulbs. We were told that this was to be expected in an old property!
There were also cans of lager scattered around the outside of the property from the previous visitors.
Sofas that were in photographs on the listing were not there. The annexe was not able to be used, meaning we were a bed short for our party and there is no longer a hot tub, although, again, still in the listing (not that anyone would have set foot in the hot tub). All of this was very upsetting but it gets worse. There were mice droppings found under four of the bedrooms pillows and on the floors. Mice could be heard in the walls and one of the bedrooms downstairs had mould on the ceiling and a constant smell of damp. There were no fire extinguishers either. These are serious health and safety concerns. We made complaints to the owner who sent someone to Asda to buy more plates, glasses and cutlery (apparently Asda were out of light bulbs) and promised to send someone round to fix the handles on the bathrooms. No one came. After spending the entirety of the first of our four precious evenings together, purely trying to sort out problems, we collectively decided that we had little choice but to make the best of it and try and enjoy Christmas.
Obviously the owner of the property is responsible but so too are Vrbo as the first point of contact and the advertising platform.
Vrbo customer services have not responded anywhere close to an adequate way and have just passed the problem to other departments. Up until now there has been little response at all. Other than to say, we should have been complaining to them during the stay and not on the day we arrived home. They would have found us alternative accommodation! If we had complained at the time to Vrbo, on a four night get together, we would spend half the time if not more waiting for Vrbo to relocate a party of 15 on 23rd December. Especially when one of the party is so unwell! That’s totally unrealistic Vrbo.
To remove the review instantly from their site should not have been a surprise to us. It does explain however, why this particular property has had no reviews, if Vrbo delete all the bad ones and shows the complete lack of care to prospective renters. I will never go anywhere near a Vrbo property again and wish that we had checked out reviews before booking. What a sham of a company.
Still waiting for refund 51 days later
Still waiting …
Day 51 waiting for a refund that was going to take up to 10 days. Hours wasted talking to customer service who although polite and friendly,
can’t action refunds or help in any way. A billing department that refuses to explain the issue. Abysmal service.
Book somewhere else next time
Terrible company, seems like they are heavily on the host side. Really is beggers belief, that anyone except VRBO can see I have been put in the wrong condo (no sea view, different left to right building rooms, internet not working, safe locked in the open position) the condo just is not up to standard. But VRBO do not interact for a resolve.
Hosts can cancel with impunity
I have had issues with Vrbo before but nothing like this. My host has cancelled my booking which I made 3 weeks ago, but the first I knew about it was when the money got refunded today. I didn't receive an email, text or a call. When I logged into the app I could see there was a sorry message from the host about a double booking. I engaged in some pointless chat with an agent but that was a childish blame game of "It's not our fault, it's the host's fault".
I have 3 suggestions for Vrbo;
1) Throw hosts who cancel their guests off the platform
2) Send a text and an email to the guest if the booking alters
3) Stop hiding behind useless live chat. Mind you, having said that, who would want to be the poor customer service assistant who had to deal with all the frustrated customers?
I don't think it would take too much coding to work #2 into their systems. Obviously I have deleted my account with these amateurs, and I couldn't recommend them to anyone. I will not be using them again.
Terrible booking experience
Terrible booking experience. I booked a cottage online with VRBO, gave my bank details, received a confirmation email and was told my account would be charged. The next day I got an email from the "property manager" saying the booking was only provisional as I hadn't paid. I contacted VRBO customer services (only available by chat) and spoke to two very unhelpful agents, one of whom cut me off, who told me I had to PHONE the "property manager" and pay them directly. I tried to get them to explain who the property manager was, and why I couldn't book and pay through VRBO as the website said, but they couldn't explain anything else and I had no idea what they meant.
VRBO website says to never pay offline.
I called the number and it was cottages.com. I was on hold for ages so booked a call back. They called me back over 3 hours later and the call handler told me I had to pay them not VRBO, even though I had already given VRBO my bank details and thought I had booked online.
All in all, a very big waste of time, unhelpful staff who weren't capable of explaining what was happening, and a whole load of unnecessary faff. This should have been a seamless online booking but it ended up with me having to spend loads of time making phone calls, and not knowing if my booking was reserved, or whether I have any guarantees on my booking.
Don't bother.
RUBBISH CUSTOMER SERVCE.
The way this company can improve is to shut down. I am surprised it is still in business. When you have a problem & ring them you are put through to someone in the Philippines!!! You can hardly understand what they are saying. I booked a holiday through then for a house in Worcester that was being Guest Homes, who incidentally I wouldn't use either. When I had a problem Guest Homes did nothing & as VRBO took my money & that is who I booked through I phoned them (In the Philippines) only to be told basically it is nothing to do with them, even though they took my money quick enough. The property was sub standard & nothing was done. I wouldn't recommend either company.
Account access problems - Appalling customer service
Appalling customer service. I have been unable to access my account for 2 months due to an IT glitch and VRBO have been utterly disinterested in resolving the problem (still ongoing). I have to chase them constantly and the system is set up so that you can never escalate a complaint yourself / speak to a manager. The problem has been escalated to IT engineers, but I cannot speak to them directly and constantly have to chase via Customer Services for updates. So now I have two substantial bookings with them that I cannot access with no resolution in sight. When VRBO works, it's great. But when something goes wrong, it is set up to prevent you from registering a complaint and there is nothing but frustration. So now they have my money, but I am still locked out. Be very cautious about them and do not rely on problems being resolved promptly.
Use another company. Believe me!
I really wish I had read the reviews before I booked with this company. I booked and paid but within a few hours realised the property was not where it was showing on the map. It was in fact in front of an extremely busy road along the beach. (I have visited the area many times but the map on the site showed it below the road). Once I realised this I immediately contacted the owner. Despite receiving confirmation that I could cancel I did so yet they still took 50% of the booking which was outrageous. This was very much a case of misrepresentation. I was promised a call back and received as you might have guessed nothing. Don't use this company.
Bad experience stay away
Horrendous customer service, phone lines dropping for no reason and then again need to call. I spent night contacting vrbo and reapeating my issue. This company have no customer protection in case something goes wrong. We booked 10 days holidays in GranCanaria, and on the day of arrival we discovered property infested with coacraches/ bedbugs, we left it the next day after whole night trying to contact so called 'customer service'. With two children it was a night of horror when i was on a phone and husband smaked big and small coacraches all around the place. It was mental torcher for all of us. Owner who originally reside in Mexico asked relatives to come over and to have a look. At 2am night two spanish ladies came and with arrogance handed for me spray for insects. They witnessed coacraches in the house and in a loud voice spoken in Spanish, I showed them coacraches in the fridge and stove panel, behind the microwave, they said something and walked away. I and didn't recieved refund however been promised from from host via messages. Vrbo team couldn't do anything about it even we escalated it as a health and safety issues. There is no protection for you as a customer even evidence shown: pic and videos of coacraches roaming around kitchen around and bed bugs in bedroom. We loose not only full price we paid for property also all food we bought on the day of arrival, and drove away to find last min property for family and luckily find on booking.com. I can only say stay away from them, don't believe positive reviews on web page and choose property elsewhere. Property name:Consul's house Gran Canaria Mogan
Truly terrible
I wish I had read other people's experiences before I tried to use this service. It's just appalling no other words can describe what a waste of time the last 24hours have been and the disappointment in seeing your holiday cancelled or disappeared.
Left with no accommodation 2 days before our holiday. Do not use VRBO. They have no morals.
I’m gutted I didn’t go on Trust pilot before booking with VRBO. My sister and I had our accommodation cancelled 5 days before going on holiday. We were told the host cancelled however when I contacted him, he explained he had to cancel as he sold the property over a year before! That VRBO should have removed the property and he had no idea we had booked and paid in full months before. VRBO said we were not considered urgent for finding alternative accommodation, that they would do this within 72 hrs, by which time it would be 2 days before we travelled. So they find this ok, to put 2 women travelling on their own into this situation. Only they didn’t keep to this guarantee, finding us no alternative accommodation. It caused us so much anxiety that we had to book with another company, costing us £140 more. They said they would look into refunding us the extra cost but to date they haven’t. It’s over a week ago. The only reason they have one star is that they did process the refund for the booking. Even speaking to them is a nightmare. I rang 5 times and on each occasion had to explain our situation, again and again. Never getting to speak to the actual department looking into it. Just being told they would pass a message to them. Ridiculous. Genuinely, don’t use this company. You have no protection if something goes wrong and they obviously don’t have the moral ethics to do the right thing.
BE VERY CAREFUL …
I booked a holiday in Ireland through Vrbo in March 2023 for which I paid a deposit of £375. I had to cancel the holiday for health reasons and when I tried to claim a refund I was told by Vrbo that I would have to go by the "Host's" cancellation policy which I mistakenly believed to be a 60% refund if cancelled before a certain date - which I had done. I was then informed by the Host that I would not receive a refund because 60% would only be refunded on the "total amount paid - not the deposit"! How many people pay the total amount when booking a holiday?? I tried to complain to Vrbo but found them impossible to communicate with. Could not find any appropriate e mail address. Will not use them again.
Don't use VRBO is my advice
Don't use VRBO is my advice, if something goes wrong they are unhelpful and absolutely useless. I've never experienced such bad customer service anywhere else! The host for my booking cancelled the day before my trip and so much for VRBO's Book with Confidence guarantee. They obviously haven't shared this with customer service team! After endless calls getting nowhere and no sign of a refund, now involving my credit card company. Will never use VRBO again.
Holiday cancelled within minutes of booking
We booked a holiday, received a confirmation, the money was taken immediately (full payment) from our account only to then receive an e-mail from the owner of the property telling us it wasn't available. The own then asked us to Cancel the reservation. I spoke to Vrbo as felt surely this couldn't be the correct process - why should we need to cancel when our money had been take and the host was telling us it wasn't available. Vrbo was very unhelpful just telling us to cancel and rebook somewhere else. This isn't going to be possible until we receive our refund which is going to take 5-7 days. We will not be using Vrbo again.
Doesn't worth 1 star literally
My husband booked a house in Kyoto. The host send us check-in details by a personal email address which we missed. However we have been asking about the check-in details in chat for a month, never get a reply.
We planned to add two guest and tried to get a quote, never get a reply. We tried to be patient and started to call just to realized the number is not correct. Until the day before check-in we reported to CS and we were told ( I did screenshot) we can get full refund in this case. Then we cancelled and booked another house.
Sadly we never get the refund after 2 months and dozens of phone calls, telling the same story over and over again. CS said we should contact the host then why the hack I book through Vrbo lol.
Worst experience ever. No protection at all.
#vrbo #avoid_vrbo_at_all_costs
Nightmare site
Nightmare site !
All seemed well until I tried to cancel. What a shambles! Vrbo directed me to third party that made Vrbo look good. I’ve had a partial refund but despite being within the 100% refund period still waiting for the rest. Communication is abysmal!
Booked a cottage through VRBO
Booked a cottage through VRBO - charged me £50 admin fee - this was not made clear on website and is charged separately on my credit card - turns out I could have booked direct and saved the admin fee and not sure what I get for this fee.
Poor customer care
Tried to pay for a booking but their system would not authenticate mine or my friends credit card. Entered into an on line chat where they told me to delete my cookies and then took over my account by proxy. They couldn’t find a problem but said it could be because it’s New Year?! I decided to call them to see if I could make the payment over the phone. I could hear the agent on the phone but they couldn’t hear me so they disconnected. Kept trying to call but it continuously disconnected. Maybe it’s due to being New Year again?! Finally got through and the agent asked if she could call me back if we got disconnected. I agreed. After giving all my details we were disconnected but she never called me back. I ended up booking a property on Airbnb. Took me 2 minutes compared to a whole morning of getting nowhere with Vrbo.
