This is the worst platform I ever…

This is the worst platform I ever booked on. There was a problem with the property and we had to move due to safety issues. Vrbo did not care at all. The customer service is not reachable. All you can do is chat to an AI bot. For days we have tried to speak to a normal person but there is absolutely no way on Vrbo. They are disgusting people who take your money and do not care. AVOID these scammers !

Let down

I booked a holiday for 5 adults and 2 children to go to Simeon Sands Coastal Escape.
My booking was accepted by Vrbo.
I received no response to questions I asked after booking.
The Property was managed by a company and not a private person.
Suddenly without warning my booking was cancelled… they lied telling me it had already been booked. 3 weeks later it’s still advertised!
I am now very pleased this happened as I have a booking in a very nice Airbnb, the lady who owns it has been in touch she’s got 5* reviews for being helpful, and she’s put us in touch with a company who can give us 30% discount on ferries…. so I am glad. I now know I won’t be using Vrbo again and since looking at reviews realise they are not well thought of.
I’m glad the property is still vacant for my dates …

deliberately false description

booked what a family thought would be a great chalet for a skiing holiday in France (property ref #1537064). All was well until we found out via the host that the three optional extras no longer exist, and haven't since covid in 2021 but still advertised. No optioal breakfast delivered and crucially no private shuttle to the slopes over 2km away.
a later conversation revealed that the still advertised hot tub has never existed!!!!
I've cancelledd the holiday today and am now awaiting the full refund
I'll keep you posted.

Avoid avoid avoid.

Property we booked was dirty, unsafe to sleep in due to exposed and damaged plaster and did not have window coverings in one bedroom. The host became aggressive when we phoned regarding this and we had to leave due to feeling unsafe. Vrbo have refused us a refund multiple times, stating it was a quality issue and we chose to leave. They have sided completely with the host and are unwilling to accept that the house could not fix the problems at the time.
I raised their 'Booking With Confidence' scheme and was told we were not eligible.

Customer service agents are useless on the phone, emails bounce back after a certain amount of time and they are unwilling to communicate with guests beyond scripted emails.

Avoid at all costs.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

I needed to put a star to leave a review.
Put simply, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
I paid half the cost for a stay for 4 days. They took the money and did not transfer the payment to the host. The host therefore cancelled the stay. They refused to refund my money after various messages and sent a message that I should recover my money through my card provider.
They are a shambles as a company, simply put.....
**DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR THEM**
I can provide photos of chats and emails if Vrbo react to this and deny anything

VRBO are interested primarily in…

VRBO are interested primarily in property owner. I had a list of issues with a high cost 3-day rental, including no hanging space in 2 of 3 bedrooms. Owner factually fixed with temp used hanging rails after 2 days. VRBO stated that their processes state I needed to complain to them whilst I was ‘in’ the property, and they wanted pictures within a day of moving in. After extensive time, calls and emails, they told me the case was closed. Worst experience of a rental anywhere
VRBO needs to review processes to balance renter with property owner claims and ensure a complaint with evidence post rental is accepted and investigated.

Unprofessional and unacceptable.

I booked a house through Vrbo for 6 people - booking was accepted and deposit paid. I have been notified today that the owner has cancelled the booking due to "another booking on another platform that I missed". I'm reading that as "I've re-booked it to someone else for a longer period than you wanted it for". . when I tried to speak to Vrbo, I couldn't hear a word that the guy was saying as there was so much background noise. Unprofessional and unacceptable.

Property was double booked

Property was double booked. Changed dates from 3 to 2 nights but still charged for 3. Cannot find anywhere on app to contact vrbo all complaints go through host but they're having the same problem. Will not use again. Their technology does not work

Nightmare site !

Nightmare site !
All seemed well until I tried to cancel. What a shambles! Vrbo directed me to third party that made Vrbo look good. I’ve had a partial refund but despite being within the 100% refund period still waiting for the rest

Last minute cancellation

Awful service. Booked an apartment via VRBO for 3 nights. Cancelled day before by owner due to apparent double booking via another platform. Simply refunded with no explanation, and left completely in the lurch to find another property for a city event weekend at min 3 times the price. No support from vrbo as they had no suitable accomodation available.

Their ‘book with confidence guarantee’ is worth nothing as they could not provide an alternative via their site. Will not use again

VRBO are only interested in supporting…

VRBO are only interested in supporting the homeowner. I had a list of 4 major issues with my rental. All VRBO wanted were pictures within a day of moving in. After three emails and three phone calls, they told me the case was closed. Wouldn't even confirm this in writing.

Useless

Useless. Rented an awful little property, they were unhelpful with getting an early checkout and a partial refund so I did a card dispute. Lost it on the grounds that their "book with confidence guarantee" only applies if you let them know within 12 hours of checkin!

I've removed my holiday apartment from VRBO site

My experience of VRBO is from the opposite side than most reviews on here. I rent out a holiday apartment. It is fully booked for the next 12 months (no bookings through VRBO) and the VRBO availability calendar was up-to-date. Yesterday on Christmas Eve I was notified that a guest had booked my property for 6 nights arriving on 28th December!
As my apartment is fully booked it should not have been possible for anyone to book it. I checked the calendar and was horrified to see that it was completely empty and showing all dates available. I messaged the person who had booked and explained something had gone wrong with the VRBO system. I had to cancel his booking and I ordered a full refund (hosts don't get the payment until VRBO send it). I spent Christmas eve trying to sort it out with VRBO, who said I had to send a photo of my calendar from before his booking to prove it was already booked!! How am I supposed to do that?!? All my bookings reappeared later, then disappeared and reappeared again in front of my eyes.
VRBO said I am going to be charged a cancellation fee for cancelling this booking and they are not going to offer any compensation to the man who booked.
It's an absolute disgrace. I have removed my apartment from the VRBO website and deleted my account. My guests are very important to me and I feel terrible knowing that this poor man probably hates me for what has happened even though it was not my fault and VRBO couldn't care less.
My advice to hosts and guests..... Do not use VRBO.

As a homeowner the experience is…

As a homeowner the experience is shockingly bad with VRBO. The website is truly awful, the customer service is horrendous. They retain all the money paid by guests until the guest arrives and bank the interest earned on the money. They refuse to place the money in a protected ESCROW account and have audacity to charge me a processing fee to receive the money in the first place. Recently they suspended my account in peak booking season and promised to restore in 72 hours. 150 hours later and I am still waiting. VRBO's main motivation is to drive revenue by any means.

We hired a villa in Mallorca through…

We hired a villa in Mallorca through them. Did not have the things is said it had. Bath rooms had mould on the tiles. Things were broken. Towels were really old and thin. Only had hot water for two days out of our stay. Over priced. Uncomfortable beds
The vill was casa Suva in Mallorca. The hosts tried really hard but could not sort the water out.

Beware do not give this company your…

Beware do not give this company your hard earned money, weas soon as we arrived they had us waiting around for people to view the property which was for sale , this happened every day , for ten days we were told to sit in the carpark in 3o + degrees heat for upto an hour at a time ,wile they showed buyers around the apartment, plus we had to wait in for builders to fix double glazing ,no TV for the stay ,TV we were told was not working plumbing in bathroom stank the flat out , complained and was told well it's Spain what do you expect . To many other complaints to go on about ,just please please save your money and use someone else

Incorrect Listings

I identified a cottage I wished to book but had a question so messaged the host. I had to chase VRBO to get an answer, 5 days later. The host messaged me back to say the rate was incorrect and I would have to pay another £200. Luckily I hadn't booked but if I had I don't suppose I would have got all my money back.

VRBO keep sending me emails and no "unsubscribe" link so I call them asking them to remove me from their mailing list - I then get an email asking me for my host number!

Avoid at all cost, NOT ABTA, ATOl regulated

Vebro is NOT ABTA or ATOL regulated!
Avoid booking your holiday through this company who over charged me for £515 and are refusing to refund me. I now need to start legal proceedings against this company as all other options so far have failed.

Unfair treatment by apartment owner and VRBO

I am very upset by our treatment by Trustpilot. We booked an apartment in Tamariu Spain from 24-31st August (Booked by Jonathan Hook) 150 euros were withheld from us at the end for an untrue claim that we tore a curtain which we did not ! and various shifting stories about minor cleaning omissions. We made no complaints about shortcomings in the apartment and left a nice review which we now cannot remove. Communication with my son was poor and we had no proper instructions, I wanted to just explain (I can't ring as deaf) and it's impossible to make a complaint. We also paid 100 euros cleaning fee and I spent hours cleaning. I have been to Tamariu for 30 years with the Corredor and Finques Frijola agencies and will never use VRBO again, An email to customer contact was returned and online chat was a robot.150 euros It is so unfair!! Contact me please!
