Deceitful Marketing
Purchased a number of items for Xmas amounting to well over €300 on the understanding it was €10 of every €100 spent. Transpires only one €10 discount applied to my total purchase, irrespective of how many hundreds I spent. Person at checkout could have advised me of same.
Way too long to arrive!
2 separate online orders in the last month. Both took almost 1 week to arrive (1-3 days on site) thankfully neither were rush jobs so take note. Smyths need to move away from DPD, I was told no driver for my area hence the delay!

Drum Was Flimsy, Wouldn't take it back.
I bought a drum as a birthday present for nephew. The quality of it was horrific. Absolutely shocking. If you are lucky enought to be reading this review, take this as a warning not to buy these drums from Smyths. It is like throwing money away!
Bad service!
Went to store in Portsmouth to get a car seat for 4 years old child had bad experience with the staff. She told me that the car seat is not refundable so we have to try it before buying. I spent so much hours to choose a seat because the staff told me the seat is too big to my son instead that the staff proposed more expensive and smaller one to me. I asked my son tried and realised that the seat will small very soon. But she gave the answer of not need to worry as kid tends to grow taller not larger.
Really? I want my son to grow with seat until 12 years old but it already seemed small now. Finally, the staff got another client who come to refund the seat and ignore me when I needed help. I was very helpless without knowing how to extend the seat. I asked another staff to help me but they neglected my request again.
I don't want to wait anymore. Finally I decided to take the 'larger one'. She was not happy and told me it's up to you but mutted with her colleague on the phone she has been wasted for so much time because I chose the cheap one she thought not good.
Anyway, I got my seat and paid on the till. But I needed help to carry to my car while I was alone and had my son in my hand.The staff in the counter was so unhappy to ask someone to come.
Finally, a man came to help. He literally just dropped the seat on the floor in front my car and left.
What a bad experience I had today. No more shopping in this store. I prefer buy on Amazon, easy to return and refund.

I bought a car seat in Smyth's Galway a few weeks ago, it was a display model and the last one they had.
We installed it in the car & it was a disaster, it wouldn't tighten & it felt unsafe. We spent ages going through each strap to figure out what was wrong but to no avail.
I brought it back to Smyths in Galway & parked outside the door. I am also expecting a baby so I couldn't take the car seat out to carry it inside.
I met a girl working there when I went inside, I explained the situation and she said she'd have a look. She could see there was something wrong somewhere but she'd need a closer look. So she took the car seat away upstairs & brought it back to me a little while later explaining what had been wrong and how she had rectified it. She stated if I still wasn't happy that we could swop or refund it, I liked the car seat and said I'd try it out. Throughout the whole interaction she was kind, friendly and so efficient. She really went the extra mile for me and I could tell she was a great worker, I felt lucky that I had seen her first when I entered the store. So thank you Kelsey, you are a wonderful young lady & the car seat has been perfect since.

Very disappointing customer service experience in Smyths toystore Kinsale roundabout Cork, Casey in customer care called a mother RUDE who was extremely upset in not receiving an online purchase for her baby girl was absolutely shocked at the lack of empathy for this woman whose purchase online never arrived. Visited Preston store to buy car seat. We were served by Jess she was amazing. New all about the products, expertly fitted the car seat for us. We bought two, she was so good.
Daylight robbery
I purchased a stroller in November and at the till queried the price. The assistant, Melissa, checked via headphone although she had already scanned item and taken card payment. She then said it hadn't gone through and re- scanned the item and took card payment assuring me that only one payment taken. On receiving bank statement 2 payments had been taken by the store each of just under £100. The store deny receiving 2 payments the manager couldn't even be bothered to speak to me on person and the assistant manager just fobbed me off. Appalling service and very expensive for me. I'd advise people to double check what they are being charged as the store are making mistakes but not accepting responsibility. Shocking!
Worst customer service we have ever seen
We ordered goods on Christmas Eve and received a text to say to collect them at 16:10, we drove to the store only to find it closed at 16:30. A toy shop closing early on Christmas Eve? We were informed on the same text we has two days to collect the item. Obviously they were closed for those two days so we went to collect it on the 27th. Smyths had, by then, cancelled the order. My wife, not yet knowing this went to collect it. The sales assistant was drinking a coke and was. to say the least, bloody rude. My wife trying to explain that for obvious reasons we were unable to collect the item as they were closed but was just given a mouthful of sarcasm. We will never ever buy anything from this company again. They are to customer service what Atilla the Hun was to world peace.

I am absolutely disgusted and completely outraged at smyths policy’s, and I will further dig into the legalities of them. When ordering online apparently you have 48 hrs to collect it,
Then it is out back out on the shelves. That’s rights the items you own are out back out on their selves by staff
If you want them you have to buy them AGAIN EVEN you Already own them And have paid So you double and it takes 10 days for the initial payment to go back into your account.
This happened 4 days before Christmas I got an email to say they CANCELLED my order yet I pays 790 euro

On the 21st of dec.
What would a parent do if they didn’t have that money to pay again. It is an absolute absurd system and I’m fairly sure illegal system that they physically put your items back out on the shop shelves.
So essentially I paid a The guts of 1600 euro for items worth 790 I still have no refund yet for initial payment.
It’s just a heads up don’t do click and collect or shop online with smyths. And they are not in anyway helpful when you call them about it.
If I could give -stars I would.
Rude manager & Terrible customer service
Normally I find smyths staff extremely helpful. However, I dealt with the manager in blanchardstown this morning - A skinny man with a beard!
The situation was smyths put through an amount twice ( accidently as can done sometimes). But the manager refused to accept responsibility, didn't give an apology and even though I know it happened to two other people in Smyths yesterday, kept saying its always the banks fault, not ours. He was quite cocky and smart about it all and kept repeating ' As I've told you it's your banks issue' . Even though I had rang the bank and the bank confirmed smyths had put the payment through twice.

Contact with Smyths toys is impossible. Have called their help line get the menu you chose any option and always gets cut off. Have called 8 stores nobody picks up phone. Something is seriously wrong here. Are Smyths toys going out of business? I ordered Smyths toy vouchers that have never been delivered and cannot get an answer from anyone, cannot track them using the tracking number. I get the sinking feeling they are never going to turn up. Don't waste your money and use their online website to order anything as like us they won't arrive, thanks for ruining our Xmas!! Will look to do a charge back with our bank.
Price increased at till
Price increased at till, nobody was prepared to check it and was moved out of queue, as nobody can leave till, asked for (manager) who was extremely rude turning her back on me while I was talking. Staff unhelpful and rude, after emailing customer service to complain was told 24 - 48 hours to check but they ignored my follow up mails, eventually almost 4 weeks later got reply, everything ok, nothing to do here. From start to finish a shambles, do not visit Smyths unless no other option is my advice
