Please be aware this pushchair which was purchased online from smyths toys and was being used for a 18 month and a six month old baby
The product description and details on. Smyths site were positive and we brought in good faith.
There was no reference made to the harness having a magnetic clasp I believe.
Several weeks ago my 18 month old grandson opened the clasp and fell out of the pushchair onto a path.
This was reported to smyths customer services with 3 videos showing how a 18 month old baby could open the clasp in seconds.
The pushchair was returned to smyths in the belief that it would be sent the following day to joie for a safety check and this was consfirmed at the point of delivery to store by the staff. at no point did we say it was a fault we said that it was a safety issue with the clasp. We wanted a refund but this was refused. It took a many phone calls and emails over a period of time to be refunded.
In the meantime there were many emails and conversations between joie, Smyths and ourselves. Smyths also sent selected copies of emails between themselves and joie.
Whilst it was retained in store we received an email from smyths toys. The staff in store conclusion on email was that
FOR A MORE ADVANCED CHILD YOU SHOULD KEEP THE CLASP COVERED. What is the definition of a more advanced child?please bear in mind he his 18 months old.The second statement on the same email is THE CLASP IS EASY TO OPEN FOR QUICK RELEASE FOR A CHILD TO BE REMOVED IN AN ACCIDENT We strongly believe that a quick release causes accidents . We find both conclusions concerning.
After approx 7 weeks joie received the stroller from Smyths. After their inspection they said it was caused by a BEHAVIOUR ISSUE. This was said by joie and confirmed by email from SMyths. We remain outraged. by all of these conclusions it should be a childproof safety harness surely? Not the responsibility of a parent to ensure these unknown guidelines are followed. This stroller is advertised from birth to 4years. If we had been made aware at time of purchase we would not have brought it. Maybe we were naive in thinking nursery products were fitted with childproof safety harnesses and never thought to ask the question. If they are standing by this they should include this in product information which I have said many times. The consumer then has a choice to decide if they are happy to purchase.
I have so many emails , videos which I have retained. I am happy to share these my accounts are factual.-
I posted my concerns on joie review site through trustpilot yesterday. I included that I did get a full refund eventually we used this for a new stroller which was purchased not obviously from Smyths or a joie model. This week we had a £300.00 gesture of goodwill from joie. This money has been split between both granchildren and added to premium bonds.
Joie contacted trustpilot and requested the refund and goodwill gesture was removed from my review. I did contact joie to ask why they wanted this removed and they have not replied. I therefore have added this to this review.
I remain shocked at the period of time this has taken to conclude1. I thought with an injury being caused to a young child the investigation would have been immediate. This complaint has escalated because of how it has been dealt with by both companies. My initial.complaint was a refund and an immediate safety inspection regarding the clasp. It didn’t happen.
I am sure lots of these strollers have been sold with no problems with the magnetic clasp. I do however feel with one child being injured that is one too many. The consequence could hAve been so much worse. In the several weeks it took for it to be inspected another child could have fallen and become injured like my grandson
I have given Smyths one star and only one because it was the lowest if I had a choice of no stars I would have opted for that. I have found Smyths Customer Service appalling on every level they are in my opinion unprofessional and show no care. I did request a contact name and email at head office to advice them yet once again customer services refused to reply to yet another email.This department reflects poorly on Smyths Toys .
I could add so much more but time is precious. This is still ongoing regarding a loaned display stroller which was unsuitable. They are also making this collection difficult.

Lost money and e card
Lost money and e card because of their website. Region switched from Irish to British at checkout so the code couldn't be used and they wouldn't refund the order. Also cannot get a human. Customer service is an AI bot
Smyths Airside
Smyths Airside. Went to collect an order of €60 value. Had the email. Had things with my name but no PHOTO ID which the confirmation email states MAY be required. Refused to give me the order or cancel the order so I could buy the item as only 1 in stock. Awful customer service. Zero help just outright refusal to help. Will not use Airside ever again!!!

Beyond helpful, she knows what is she doing, knows about products, always available, very polite, fast, she gives herself 100% in position she works!! We came back twice and she was the only one helping and available, very valuable customer and I hope appreciated in there. I recommend her if u need any advice about prams, cribs etc. Thank you Shannon!
Smyths Toys Sligo - very BAD customer service, scalper staff
Samantha and Calum are very strange when it comes to buying pokemon cards from Smyths Toys Sligo, it's not the first time they are withholding stock. Today, Calum, the cashier who served me, said they don't have the Pikachu At The Museum Oversized card and then his manager, Samantha, told him that he is supposed to give one with purchases over €25, he did not give me the card and said he "No", nothing else, weird.
Another occurence, a few months back I went it to buy the Pokémon TCG: Mega Venusaur ex Premium Collection, first Samantha said they don't have it in stock, I checked the website and it was in stock alright, then she said it's on the shelves, which was untrue, because they ALWAYS keep the Pokemon cards behind the till, after looking for the box, I went back and someone else served me, I showed him that the box is in stock, he went at the back and got me the box, hallelujah, after half an hour, not to mention that Samantha was rolling her eyes the whole time.
Not sure if the staff is just rude, wants to keep the Pokemon cards for themselves or someone else, if they're scalpers or simply just can't be bothered to do their job, but every time I go in to buy Pokemon cards, there is an issue, and weird enough, when Samantha the manager is not there and is on her smoke break, everything goes well.
Every time I go inside I receive attitude from Samantha, she seems visibly bothered that I am buying Pokemon cards and always has a very negative attitude, worst customer service I have ever received.
I spend hundrends on pokemon cards as it is my hobby, but I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Great experience in Smyths Toys Athlone! The staff were very friendly and helpful. A special thanks to a young blonde girl who helped me a lot — her name started with “S” (I can’t remember the full name), but she was absolutely lovely and made the whole shopping experience even better. Really professional, polite and welcoming. I will definitely be back!

Rude customer service
Went into smyths at Rotherham parkgate yesterday evening. We were purchasing a toddler bed and all the stuff ready to move our daughter into her own room. Which is an exciting time .When we got there it took us 15 minutes despite walking around the baby section, before we could find a member of staff to help us get the bed out of the back and to the till. While we was waiting for it to get to the till we picked up everything else we needed. One of the items was mattress, we picked up what we thought was the mattress. When we got to the till to check out, the man serving us was so rude. We explained that we had ordered a cot to come to the front and he sighed and said “well it’s not here yet”. We said it’s okay we don’t mind waiting. Then we passed him everything else. When we passed him the baby monitor display box to show which one we wanted he sighed again. Then when we passed him what we thought was the mattress he looked straight at us and said “ what’s this supposed to be” we said it’s the mattress. He shook his head and sighed no you have to get them to get it out of box. He then went on headset and ordered one for them to bring out. He then started asking what size the bed was to make sure it was the right size mattress on the headset and I replied it’s 70x140 and he carried on asking on headset. I then replied even louder stating what size it was and he just looked at me and ignored me and asked again on headset saying we didn’t know. It was like he couldn’t be bothered to be there and made us never want to return I don’t think we will ever shop in there again.

I have been ordering from smyths online since covid times and have always had excellent service from them.
I recently ordered a playmat for my baby, excellent quality but the delivery was amazing. Ordered on the 9th of January, got it the on the 10th, wasn't expecting it until the 13th. Not the first time I've had an order arrive before delivery date. Amazing service. Thank you.

Purchase of child's bike
Myself and my aunt purchased a boys bicycle yesterday. To say that customer service was bad is an understatement.
I was purchasing the bicycle with a gift card. When I tried click and collect at home the CVV code was not visible so had to go to shop which is 60 kilometers away in Sligo.
I wanted the bike assembled this apparently only available with click and collect not available with in store purchases,dont understand this ???
I have a 2 yr old baby and an elderly aunt, there we were struggling to take bike to car, we asked could someone help, no one available we were told. A male customer offered to put it in car for us. He was astonished at the service or lack of.....
Customer service is non existent at this store in Sligo.

Ordered a PS5 and headphones. Got a confirmation and delivery time. So called Black Friday deal.
The next day, they send me a note saying PS5 is out of stock but they still sent the headphones.
Have you ever ordered a burger but they only give you the bread and say "sorry we have no patties left but here's the bread"
Headphones are useless without the console!

Perfect service except delivery

All sorted quickly but GLS left the two boxes outside the door without even ringing the door bell. Poor delivery service that ruin the great job done.
Received an open box
Received an open box, no labels inside for return or to list the items in the box. One item was missing. Contacted customer care and asked when the last item would be delivered. I was told to go away not their problem. I don't select who delivers the items. The box was open and wet. I also send a picture of the box. Smyths is more then a disappointment.
Ordered Saturday, arrived Monday.
I placed an order online on Saturday evening and lo and behold, it arrived at 8.30am this morning, Monday. You cannot fault that kind of service.
