Last year I engaged then tax to apply for a tax refund from HMRC, this they did within a reasonable period of time but they charged me 44% commission fee, this is excessive and they did not tell me in advance. Next time I will go elsewhere.

I knew nothing about the Allay claim to repay tax. The first I knew was the letter from HMRC telling me about my tax rebate for year 21/22 and sending the adjusted tax statement for that year. It was for a very small amount, £23 but then I receive the text from ThenTax asking me to send my bank account details to receive the £12.20 ! As everybody has written, robbery, and in the name of HMRC. Disgusting. Peter

Once again they have taken 48% of my partners tax rebate, even though she hasen't instructed them to do so. Absolute theft in my opinion. Whats going on HMRC......DO NOT USE, STEER CLEAR, IF YOU CAN!!

Scum robbers took half of the refund money do not use it was only when got letter from HMRC saying how much i was due which was £211 I received £109

I got them to claim my ppi in 2019 and now they have claimed my tax rebate which I never agreed this . HRMC have sent them my tax rebate and I have tried to contact then tax but they have no contact details . I phoned hrmc and they said then tax sent my details in so they paid them ????. Argos has my details would they send them my rebate ????? . This is fraud . Hrmc should have contacted me and asked if I had given permission . Hrmc are complicit in helping them commit fraud .

I only got a small refund of £72 but if I had realised these rip off merchants take virtually half of the amount due I would never have used them. You're only made aware of this at the point they pay you. A complete con.

My experience with Then.tax is mixed. I was referred by Allay after I received a PPI refund. I was happy to allow then.tax to process my claim, and understood that they would take 48% of any refund. The application form was signed on 29th Sept 2023, and I was advised that then.tax would keep me updated re my claim. That hasn’t happened. After 12 weeks I sent an email asking for an update. They replied by saying that HMRC had asked for more info on my claim. 6 weeks later I received a letter from HMRC asking me to provide the info that then.tax had been asked to provide. I emailed then.tax and was advised that the info requested had been sent off the very day the email arrived!!

A couple of weeks later, I received an email requested my bank details to allow then.tax to pay £69.97 into my account. I sent them my bank details via the secure link, and the next day the money was credited to my account. An email was sent to me advising me of the transfer, and stating that if I had a further claim, this would be dealt with separately - the original letter from then.tax suggested a rebate of £464.00. I don’t know whether this is the £69.97 is the full amount of the rebate or not. It looks like another email is required to clarify. In total, it is now 30 weeks since the original claim was lodged. The boast that the rebate could be in my bank account in 6 weeks is boastful, and another claim that rebates are secured between 8 - 12 weeks is also way out.

Applied for PPI tax refund through this company in October 2023, it wasn't until the end of the application process that they tell you they will take 48% of recovered money. I heard nothing more from them for five months, less than a week before the end of the tax year and they said they could do nothing for me. Avoid

I have had to award 1 star because I couldn't give them minus 5.
They are very efficient at securing the money but charge you almost 50 percent for doing so. It would have been simple to claim from HMRC myself.

Take my advice and do it yourself.

In November 2022, I received an email from Allay, who had handled my PPI compensation claim, saying "Our records suggest HMRC incorrectly deducted tax from your PPI compensation", and asking for authority to pursue through their colleagues, Then Tax. This related to compensation paid in 2018/2019 tax year. A year later, I received a claim from HMRC for tax underpaid of £1,475.93, including interest since 2019. These clowns have cost me £1,500. They have no idea what they are doing.

They have my money but hadn't let me know. I had a letter from HMRC telling me it was due several weeks ago. I contacted them to ask where my money was. They took several days to reply. They then sent me a 'faulty' link and have ignored my email to ask for a new link.

Apparently this company sent a request to HMRC for my tax refund. First I knew about a tax refund was from HMRC themselves. After investigating i found out it was from a previous PPI claim. At no time did they mention Contacting HMRC. They have now took half the refund as their commission. Oh and if I want a cheque they charge another £15 administration costs

Got a tax refund from HMRC as I had paid to much tax last year they sent a cheque to THEN TAX REFUNDS who took nearly half in fees and then taxed me . How you tax a tax refund. Why are HMRC using out side company's if they can send a cheque to these company's why can't they just sent a cheque strategy to you ???

Warning. Your Allay Claims PPI using this company isn’t accurate. It’s not based on your PPI but your whole earnings for the last 2 years. You should apply to HMRC yourself & save 48% of their cut.

Please, please, please don't use this company to obtain your PPI tax refund.
Unbeknown to me, my wife signed up with them (she had previously got a PPI refund through 'Allay' who referred her to this company) and we heard the other day from HMRC that she was owed £200 but the cheque would go to this company first.
They take their 48% commission first (yes you read that correctly!). Also, when I trawled through the small print it appears my wife has also given permission for them to look for any other previous or future tax refunds that may be due - don't have to be PPI related either.
My wife has written today to get this contract (Terms of Engagement they call it) cancelled once they've taken their wedge out of my wife's tax refund.
PLEASE NOTE APPLYING YOURSELF FOR A TAX REFUND IS VERY SIMPLE JUST LOOK INTO IT!

P.S. Written to Private Eye today to tell them all about this shady company - I'm on one as they say!

Fees are high, but they’re upfront about it. Everyone moaning in the other comments, read the small print before you start if you’re not happy with it. 48% is a joke, but it’s a joke they’re honest about. They got me 52% of some money that I would *never* have bothered to claim myself. 52% of anything is better than zero.
