Had some trouble getting my map setup, ( only because of the acreage was high). Spoke to customer service and got it straightened out. The dogs don't even test the fence line anymore. They learned it pretty fast.

not impressed
not impressed with the fact that when we go to a different location that we have a virtual fence that we have to link up to it every time. the biggest thing is that the EXPENSIVE collar won't alert the dog when it leaves the fence. For the cost it should automatically link to set up virtual fences and alert the DOG to go home that it left the fence.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand the frustration, especially when you use SpotOn regularly at multiple locations.
When you move to a different location, you must deactivate the currently loaded fence before activating the new fence when you arrive at the next location. To do so, you must be within 30 feet of the collar and connected to Bluetooth, and reccomned to change the fence before letting the dog out of the car; that way, they are always automatically secured when getting out.
We’d also like to clarify that the collar does alert your dog as they approach the boundary, and they should receive two tones. One ten feet before the edge and the second five feet before the edge. If your dog isn't receiving these warnings, we’d be happy to review the collar and settings with you to make sure everything is working as intended, and to provide troubleshooting or warranty options if needed. 5 stars — Best GPS collar on the market
I run four of these on my own personal dogs and use them every single day. Hands down, the GPS accuracy is the best I've found on the market — no drift, which is the biggest problem with most competitors. The antenna is about 5x larger than anything else out there, and you can tell — it shows in how accurate and reliable the boundary tracking is. Battery life has been excellent as well.
One honest note: this isn't magic. The collar is a tool, not a substitute for training. You still have to put in the reps with your dog and stay consistent — the more training you do, the more accurate and reliable the boundary becomes. If you're expecting to strap it on and walk away, that's not how any GPS fence works, this one included. But for anyone willing to actually train their dog alongside it, this is the most dependable collar I've used.
(Disclosure: I'm also a SpotOn-affiliated dog trainer, but this review reflects my genuine day-to-day experience running these on my own dogs.)

Wish it would work
The idea is solid. The execution was not. The fence line traveled day to day and it was confusing our LGDs. My LGDs were also stung in their safe zone twice in front of me…I would guess many times more when I wasn’t there. The safe zone was clear of the fence line by much more than 30 feet. Also, not to the companies fault, but one of our Pyrs could not be stopped by level 30. We watched her make the decision to take the sting to get through.

While some GPS drift is natural with any GPS-based system, corrections occurring that far inside the intended boundary are something we would want to investigate further.
We also understand that every dog responds differently to correction levels, and for some dogs, static correction may not be enough to deter a determined breach.

So when I started looking for GPS…
So when I started looking for GPS collars for my twin 1 year old Belgian Shepherds, I was nervous.
I went with your company because you are local to me and that was a bonus as I am a southen Maine resident and I always vote for local whoever possible.
I'm still nervous with the function of these collars as there are still items that are not clear and do not hook up as fluidly as I would have thought they would have.
But I will tell you they are mighty sturdy and durable and over time we are getting used to the collars settings and true capabilites.

Best investment ever. My dogs learned quickly and my anxiety has been removed. The dogs can now safely patrol 7 acres and I have peace of mind!

This collar has made a huge difference in both mine and my dog’s life. More freedom for her and less worries for me. Just wish it was more airy so her fur could dry out more. We live in a lake and she’s always fishing.

Overall a good collar that I will continue to use.
Customer service has been great. For a large coverage area where accurate border lines are not critical, the collar is good. For keep out zones or wanting accurate border lines, the coverage is rather poor. The issue with cell coverage is questionable. My cell coverage works fine on my phone for everything including data use but the collar is constantly having trouble with cell coverage.

GPS-based systems can experience some natural drift, which can affect fence boundaries and Keep Out Zones where very precise placement is important. With the Nova edition, we observe 3–6 feet of GPS drift, and we’re always happy to help review fence placement and troubleshoot performance.
We’d also be happy to look into the cellular connectivity you’re experiencing. Your phone and SpotOn collar can perform differently in the same area because the collar uses LTE-M coverage, so consistent phone service doesn't always mean the same connection quality for the collar.

SpotOn has been great! Used it on a camping trip and that was great, too. Dogs respect the boundaries with no training since we had an in ground system previously. The only “escapes” have been because I forgot to remove collar on a car ride.

The app will show me approximately half the time or less where the dog is inside the fence which is a very small area. Daily battery life is about 11 hours. Battery has been replaced twice already since new. It's a great concept but is far from working as advertised.
