great communication

I recently visited mycar after an engine warning light came on right before I was about to get on the highway. When I called over the weekend, they said they could check the whole car if I left it there for the entire day, so I decided to bring it in on Monday instead. On the way there, another warning popped up saying the engine oil needed refilling. I mentioned both issues when I arrived and asked them to check everything. I also asked them to text me once they finished as I’d be at work, but I never received any message. I eventually rang them myself and was told they had emailed me which is just a small miscommunication, so I didn’t mind.

They told me the issue was the battery and recommended replacing it. I agreed, but I specifically asked if the engine was okay and whether the oil needed to be changed. I was told everything was fine and that a faulty battery can cause random warning lights.

However, the very next day, the engine warning light came back while I was driving on the highway. It was incredibly frustrating, especially since I had a long drive ahead. When I returned to get it rechecked, they told me nothing was wrong and the light was probably just an error. Then another mechanic said I actually needed an engine oil change. When I questioned why I had been told earlier that I didn’t need one, the explanations kept changing.

First, they told me they didn’t have any memo about checking the engine oil, so they didn’t do it. Then they changed their story and said they did check the oil but “didn’t have time” to replace it, and that I would need to book another appointment if I wanted it done. This was confusing because I had clearly mentioned the oil warning from the start, and when I called after the inspection, I double-checked again and was told everything was fine.

When I raised this, the staff didn’t acknowledge what they had told me earlier. Instead, they kept saying things like, “If there’s no memo, we don’t do it,” and insisted I must’ve misunderstood. They were quite rude, at one point saying, “What do you want me to do? Re-book? Or what?” It felt like they were blaming me even though I had been clear from the beginning.

At this point, I’ve completely lost trust. What am I supposed to do now? Go back again when the warning light comes up and hope I don’t get brushed off again? I wasted so much time, felt talked down to, and left feeling terrible.
