I would like to thank the team of Stemgoods for the efforts to make our living more healthful, clean, and “green.”
We received our custom-made solid wood frame king size Bramo bed last week. Gorgeous! Excellent work, practical design, a sturdy and beautiful piece of furniture!
The bed came in two very secure and durable boxes. We prepaid in-room delivery (the solid wood is really heavy!); the guys from AIT Logistics were very polite and attentive to all our requests. We had no problems with shipment, we tracked delivery online; they called us the day before and came in time.
The assembly of this big heavy bed took not more than 15 (!) minutes (my son helped me). Very wise and practical construction.
We chose steel legs for the bed, they are very impressive and durable. Diamond tufting of the head board is done very thoroughly, and it makes our bed a real beauty! All work has been done very accurately and professionally. Very fine upholstery work!
The Stemgoods has a very nice collection of upholstery fabrics. We liked ours very much (we chose the fabric from the kit provided by Stemgoods by mail).
Of course, no any smell or gas-off.
Again, thank you very much for the dedication to your customers and quality of your products, as well as its “green” nature. We will recommend your company with pleasure to all our friends.

I absolutely love my couch from Stem. We were able to customize the fabric, height, width, legs - and it was a VERY easy process. They went above and beyond to provide additional fabrics to help match to our rug. I appreciated getting updates from them and what they were working on next with my order. I have already referred friends and will certainly look at Stem for future furniture needs! Thank you!

This couch is the ultimate lounging couch, sits a little lower than a typical couch. Down Pillows were nice and packed, for the cushions I only got the foam option (not latex) which are still very comfy. The casablanca fabric is nice well sewn, and the construction of the couch overall is solid! I feel like I can jump on the arms of the couch if I wanted. Plus the couch did not smell like chemicals. For my order they were able to ship it in the timeframe. Awesome couch overall, sleek modern and easy to move through doorways.

Like others who have reviewed, stem’s fulfillment is less than desirable. They took longer than previously quoted. I’m actually okay with this, given that it’s a custom piece of furniture. The men who delivered in SF did a good job.

The issues came with the actual couch. I had ordered an organic velvet, and every single piece of fabric that was sewn had the pile in a different direction, resulting in the couch looking like patch worked! Velvet takes on a different color depending on the direction you look at it. I’ve spent more than 6K on a latex and wool couch and somehow their upholsterer doesn’t know how to upholster velvet?

In addition the seat cushions did not have the cotton encasement. So, they had the velvet touching the latex and wool directly. Apparently, this ruins the pile on the velvet. There are parts of the couch where I can feel a pokey piece of latex because it’s not properly encased. Not to mention, seat cushions need this extra protection from stains and I may want to wash my seat cushions.

It makes me think other shortcuts were made on the couch.

I’m in touch with Laura who says their operations manager will get in touch. She said that Friday and today (Monday), so I will update my review with the outcome.

I am writing to share my review of the Zavis couch which we ordered with the natural latex filling. We have been enjoying it for about a month and we absolutely love the look and feel of it! It stays cool to the touch during naps and provides very nice back support. I am not sure what other customers are complaining about in terms of wait. I ordered the couch online around the holidays and received it in January as expected. In fact my family chose to order from this California based company as opposed to other companies that manufacture closer to us. (We are on the East Coast.) Communication was good both by email and online. Very pleased!

I love this company. We've ordered 4 pieces from Stem and love them all. The most recent was a bed for our master bedroom and the craftsmanship of the bed is beautiful. My father-in-law even commented that he hadn't seen a bed built that well in decades. I love the lack of chemicals and the craftsmanship.

Bought a table. Wood warped after arrival. Company offered partial refund. Table continued to warp. Should have returned it.

I've ordered twice with Stem. The first time, I ordered a custom built couch. As many of the other reviews have mentioned, the delivery process and customer service is pretty poor (I'm being kind). The people are courteous and give the appearance of caring about you (when they reply). I placed my order on January 4th. I received exactly ONE unprompted email telling me about the status of couch. I reached out a few times to get some information but it was hit-or-miss if they would reply. Then, once it was delivered, I didn't receive any updates and had to keep reaching out over and over again. Finally, on March 9th, a couch was delivered to my apartment...and it was the WRONG couch! At this point it was comically bad so I wasn't even mad about it. I reached out to the company and after a few back-and-forth emails, I was told three days later that someone would call me. Nobody called. I emailed AGAIN the next day (now four days after receiving the wrong couch). Eventually I ended up getting the couch. The support team said they understood and made up for the horrific experience with offering me some compensation. I received that about two months later. Original order on January 4th, situation resolved on April 30th.

Wanting to get another piece to match my couch, I ordered a matching chair a week before Halloween. It arrived a week after New Year's Day. Again, terrible experience with the delivery. No communication. The box was so dirty that I had to open this giant chair in the hallway of my apartment after paying the delivery company to wheel the chair into the elevator and move it toward my apt instead of just dropping it in the lobby of my building. At this point, I had the "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me" mindset so I barely spoke up about the poor overall service. Furniture ordered on October 23rd, situation complete on January 8th.

The furniture itself is really nice. Everyone loves it. The customer service and delivery are terrible. It's so disheartening because I'd order so much more and recommend this furniture to everyone I know if they could just do basic stuff like communicate status or set realistic expectations. If you have four months to wait for your piece and can be patient in dealing with awful delivery service, then you should definitely buy from Stem.

Stem provided excellent customer service. It was easy to use their website. This is my first couch and I was worried about purchasing online but was having difficulty finding one I liked without the use of chemicals. I wanted a couch without fire retardants and low/no voc. I loved that the sectional I ordered was also made from FSC certified solid wood. I can definitely feel the difference when I sit on it versus a previous couch. There is more support and doesn't sink in too much. Just the proper amount of cushion. This company aligns with my values of reducing the impact of chemicals in our environment and in my personal space. Along with durable furniture that is intended to withstand for a long period of time. It was a bit pricey but I felt I got what I paid for in terms of the quality.

I recently purchased a sleeper sofa and ottoman from stem. Ordering the couch through their online system was seamless, painless, as was working with their customer service team to refine and finalize the order. Every question I had (and I had quite a few) was answered thoroughly and within a reasonable amount of time. I was told that due to high volume of orders during the holiday season, that it would take a little longer to process and deliver our new furniture. Which was fine with me, as my main objective was to purchase well made, non-toxic furniture. Which is exactly what we received. We couldn't be happier with the purchase.

We paid a high price for what does not seem a high quality couch. As a few other posts have mentioned the couch creation takes longer than what the website claims. We had to reach out quite a few times to get a straightforward answer. We are not pleased with the couch and are going on month 3 waiting for the piece to be returned/picked up. If you are not in a rush to receive a piece of furniture, pay a high price for moderate quality, and do not need to communicate with company, you may be okay ordering with this company.

Took 11 weeks total. The production look longer than anticipated and then back and forth for hours with delivery company as they tried to locate the couch. Was promised 4-6 weeks and would have ordered from a different company if I had known there was a chance of this happening - we had family visiting from out of town for Christmas and we had to sit on dining room chairs and the floor on Christmas day. Very disappointed, and left long message before new year and never heard back. Couch is nice and it's important to me to have a sustainable, non-toxic product but would not recommend.

I placed my order for the Mota sofa in October and was expecting it to be delivered in 4-6 weeks, but it took a little over 8 weeks. I am very happy with the sofa - it is extremely comfortable and looks great. I appreciated the order updates over the 8 weeks, but would have liked to know that it was going to take that long upfront.

We couldn't be happier with our couch from Stem. I was looking for an eco friendly, non toxic manufacturer and Stem exceeded my expectations!
It was easy to navigate their website and custom create the perfect couch. We were able to select the exact dimensions, legs, fabric and filling to suit our needs. It's great to know that our couch is free of glues, flame retardants and other toxic additives. I would highly recommend!

Very happy with this purchase. Very happy. High quality, very well made. I would be surprised if this couch did not last my entire life time. I chose natural latex foam for the seat cushions. In my research on latex foam, it can last 30 yrs and more, if taken care of well. The couch is very supportive, yet comfortable. Being a Physical Therapist I was very happy with how this couch supports my back. Very huge difference compared to my old 500$ couch I replaced, and worth every penny. Couldn't be happier. When I have a bigger living room and in need of more pieces, stem will be my go to company for furniture. Hands down. I could go on and one, but one last thing. Even the men that delivered my couch said that it looked nicer and better-made than the 4,000 and up couches they deliver on a regular basis. Thank you Stem!

Like others have expressed in their reviews, the couch we ordered took longer than expected to arrive. However, I cannot stress how well worth the wait it was! The craftsmanship and materials used are of exceptionally high quality and, equally as important, eco and human friendly. The best of both worlds! Our couch is sleek and modern and oh so comfy! It far exceeded our expectations. To top it off, customer service was really great. We couldn't have asked for better. We will definitely be ordering from Stem again for any future furniture we need.

We were interested in Stem because we wanted high quality leather furniture without all of the toxins and hazardous chemicals that most furniture companies use on leather. Stem provided an amazing quote and they were extremely flexible with our requests. We ordered custom furniture adapted from their Pel collection, and it turned out amazing. We couldn’t be more pleased with how the furniture looks, and knowing what materials were used in the furniture really put our minds at ease (nontoxic). You will not be disappointed with their furniture.

I purchased a couch and 2 chairs from STEM. I'm very happy with my purchase. Non toxic was very important to me and I'm thrilled to own attractive furniture with no smell or nasty outgassing for years. Our family will be healthier because of this purchase. I was also happy about the fact that I could pick my fabrics and customize the furniture. We wanted higher backs than the standard measurements and we were concerned it would not fit our needs. But then we found out that they could make the backs as high as we desired. So I have my furniture now and it's beautiful and comfortable and most importantly non toxic!

I have been in search of a couch for a long time. Back in May I ordered a couch through West Elm and they could not get it together and kept pushing back my delivery date, every time I would call them for an update I would get redirected to a third party shipping and or product management department who never gave me a definitive answer to the whereabouts/process of my order. Three months later, still no answers to my question and being fed up I ended up cancelling the entire order.

After that experience, I really did not want to order anything online and went in person shopping for couches but never found the right one, i.e size, fabric, color or design. I decided to give online shopping another shot and stumble upon STEM. Their story and their passion for Eco friendly furniture and their value for customer service and satisfaction is top notch.
Not only that, but each couch option is customizable to the design, color, fabric choice, size and measurement to fit my home and style.

Every process along the way I was updated. They would send updates on the progress of my order even when it was shipped. Getting in touch with STEM was easy as well. Two weeks into my order I suddenly had a change of heart on my fabric choice. And I emailed STEM and called them the next working day to have my fabric choice changed and there was no fuss about it, it was handled right away no questions asked. Unlike calling West Elm you won't get some random third party representative that redirects your questions and every time you call you get a different person. At STEM its different both Laura and Lindsey are wonderful and responsive.

Lastly, my order was delivered on time 8 weeks the shipping company they partner with is efficient and timely. Giving/calling me with updates on how far away they were to my home. AND finally THE COUCH, its the best thing I ever sat on. It is firm but comfortable, it hold its shape so well. It's just what I wanted, the fabric choice came out right. It's everything I asked for and it fits perfectly in our home just how we wanted it to be. I can not be more happy with it and plan of using STEM and recommending STEM to all my families and friends. Thank you STEM!!

The couch itself gets 5 stars - we are thrilled with the quality, and it's amazing to take a piece of furniture out of its packaging and smell zero VOCs!

The reason I'm taking a star off is due to the delivery experience. The estimate was 4-6 weeks, and it took over 8 weeks to arrive with few updates or reset expectations along the way. Not a huge deal at the end of the day, but that prevents it from being a 5 star experience overall.
