Sandstone nab Middlesbrough. This used to be a lovely pub/restaurant before the refurbishment!!

The venue was split into a restaurant/bar and sports bar.

In the sports bar there is only a gents toilets (totally sexist in this day and age)
States all live football and sports. NO 3 o’clock football on including a Middlesbrough match which is what people in Middlesbrough want to see. But again a sports bar that doesn’t show Any 3 o’clock game is NOT a sports bar.

Food is average for the price and the alcohol is over priced.

This is a huge venue on a brand new housing estate and is empty on a weekend, when a sports bar should be busy. (If you actually play football)

We will not be returning for any (if any live sports) or food. Shame as it’s on our doorstep and could be a great place

Marston's have bought several pubs in our area, reducing menu choices for our community. The food in our nearest has much smaller portions now, all the lovely starters I liked removed, and other items on the menu no longer interest us .We dislike the fries with skins immensly and the american style burger bun tasted awful So it was always our first choice and now even with the regular 40% off mains discount its not even a thought. The amazing staff seem rushed and the prices are higher, Ive spoke to others and they also no longer go. So very sad. I always note that many firms on here are concerned reply trying to rectify and apologise for any issues I havent seen any replies. On principal we no longer go now with our

Looking forward to the carvery at Lock Keepers at Worksop. Had carvery cold meats, undercooked vegetables (raw) Yorkshire puddings paper thin the size of balloons which were thin and chewy. The best thing about this pub was leaving. Staff overwhelmed with work. Drinks delivered to the table fast.
The location couldn’t be better.
Would I ever come here again? NO

I Have eaten here many times on many different occasions, an have always been happy 😊 UNTIL today as NOT impressed with the food. It was NOT up to its previous standards. Both meals fell well under expectations from previous meals experienced there.
The menus description was very misleading as to what actually arrived on the table which was the very BARE MINIMUM in some food cases or along with some usual foods that have always been included in our meal choices completely missing from the actual meals and even some stated food items on the menu being replaced by totally other food items (without even an apology or explination from the waitress who brought the food out).
Today was very DISAPPOINTING 😞 and really has made me think as to whether or not to eat here again.
So with regard to the chef (NOT IMPRESSED) but to the bar staff who served us very polite and couteous (TOP PERFORMANCE).

Terrible experience. They didn't have the soup or fish and chips in stock for the lunchtime meal deal, so I ended up ordering something I didn't really want. They still had the old menu with the old prices on the table. The size of both the lunchtime meals and the standard meals was very small and not worth the money. The breaded mushrooms were sitting in grease. The salad was limp and wilted, and looked like it was two weeks over the use by date. The only saving grace was the chocolate fudge cake, and is the only reason this review is rated two stars and not one star. Overall, a very disappointing experience and we definitely won't be returning to eat here.

The Marsh Harrier, St Ives, Cambs. Double burger was half the size it was a year ago. Chips tasted old and were a small portion. Toilets look like they need a deep clean as they are gross. Pub is starting to look tired. Shame I used to quite like the place!

Usually enjoy the meals at our local marstons restaurant. But today went for the Hawkstone ipa and beef pie. Meal arrived but no pint. Queried this and was told the ipa is in the pie! So nearly twenty quid for a fairly mediocre pie and mash is a con in my eyes! So the advertising with Jeremy with his pie and pint is very misleading!

Bar staff very good, obliging & patient.
Advertised offers on drinks not available, i.e. Strongbow & Cask beers not stocked.
No reasonably priced drinks for children.
Waiter service extremely poor.
Food: Hawkstone pie was tasteless, with no meat content as pieces, visibly only as gravy.
Rump steak cooked well, but extremely chewy with sinew running through most of it.
No staff member visited the table to check on the meals. After being at the table for 90 minutes & still waiting for the grandchildren’s dessert, my wife had to go to the bar to enquire when it would be served to prompt some action by the staff.
We do not consider that this visit was value for money, & to us a very disappointing experience.

Friendly, helpful, and efficient staff, and wonderful food at a good price. We've been there many times. The Bell At Tong.

Sadly the quality of food has gone down and prices up.

Burger was very disappointing poor quality burger. Scampi was very small.

Redhawk pub in Brough, o.m.g, Hunters chicken cold, sent it back, only to get another one as dry as sawdust. Took it home to the dogs. Manageress, totally arrogant about the situation, won't be going there again, if their was a star for nothing, it would be going to Redhawk and Manageress.

Ate at The Chestnut Tree at Wednesbury. West Midlands at 2pm 10th August. Thre was no Cauliflower Wings, Meatball Baguette or Philly Cheese steak. We were also told there was no turkey available on the carvery, which was a disappointment as I only like the turkey. After finishing my meal I was shocked to see that turkey had miraculously appeared on the carvery. Also, we weren't able to get a printed receipt as the printer wasn't working. A total shambles

Stayed at Olde House Chesterfield on 2/7/26, ate a kebab meal, next day on the way back home on the M.25 going to Kent, collapsed at the wheel of my car due to food poisioning, my car was written off, it was lucky I wasn't killed was in hospital for 4 x days, they don't want to take responsibility, they have refused liability due to a technicality, avoid this company. If I could give this company a minus review, I would.

Stopped here for a drink. We paid well over £13 for a single gin and Britvic tonic and a pint of Stongbow. Went to find a seat (I was dressed head to toe in cream) and each one was absolutely filthy.
You pay premium prices for dinks so expect somewhere clean and comfortable to sit. The seats were disgusting. I was left wondering about the cleanliness of the whole pub!
I felt so dirty when I left I immediately changed at home before sitting on my own furniture!
I have taken photos but couldn’t see an option to upload but if you could see them I’d be surprised if anyone would set foot on the premises!

Very disappointing customer service from the manager

We visited The Market Cross in Dunstable on Sunday with our toddler and young baby. We have been here before and have eaten outside, so we were familiar with the pub.

When we arrived, we were asked whether we had a booking and were told they were fully booked. We had absolutely no problem with that.

We asked whether we could sit outside and were told that they weren’t serving food outside. Because we had eaten outside here previously, my partner simply asked whether we could order/buy the food and take it outside ourselves.

The response we received was completely unnecessary. The lady said, “I told you, we don’t serve food outside. Why are you being so difficult?”

My partner was taken aback and asked, “Sorry, what did you say?” She then repeated, “Why are you being so difficult?”

At that point I told her, “That’s not nice. That’s a one-star review for customer service,” and asked for her name. She replied that she was the manager.

We weren’t being difficult. We weren’t arguing about them being fully booked and we weren’t demanding that anyone serve us outside. We were simply asking whether we could purchase the food and carry it outside ourselves — particularly because we have eaten outside at this pub before.

Afterward, I also checked The Market Cross’s own website and found that it advertises food and drinks in the beer garden, which made the interaction even more confusing.

We were simply trying to enjoy a Sunday out as a family with our toddler and baby. A polite explanation such as, “Unfortunately we’re not serving outside today and we can’t offer takeaway to the garden,” would have been completely fine.

I don’t normally like leaving negative reviews, but I don’t believe customers asking a genuine question should be spoken to this way, especially by the manager. Being called “difficult” twice for asking for clarification was unnecessary and unprofessional.

Marstons Tulip Queen Spalding. Booked twin bed accessible room (as my disabled wife cannot use a double bed) through Booking.com. Received a reply from a company called Agoda claiming to work for Marstons. Went onto their site, No reservation for me??
Emailed Marstons direct who confirmed reservation. Received an invoice IN DOLLARS from Agoda confirming booking of double bed room. Phoned Marstons who confirmed twin beds.
Got to hotel, hung around for 15 mins in reception as bar so crowded nobody available. Booked in and reserved table. Got to room and it was a double.!!! Totally useless communications. Marstons using Agoda just adds confusion, need to dismiss them and rely on their own people.

Room clean , cool and well equipped like most similar chain hotels but more expensive

Meal a disaster, waited hour to get served despite pre-booking. Poor staff totally overworked serving food and drinks. Wife ordered fish and chips and I was looking forward to a surf and turf aged sirloin steak. Fish was unidentifiable under a mass of batter, so called whole breaded Whitby scampi tails deep frozen fried, disappeared in a puff of steam virtually no meat. Charged extra for “aged” sirloin, the only aged thing was the 10+ year old dairy cow it came from. Pure gristle could not be cut with a serrated steak knife. Chef took it back and cooked a new one. Same result and this one had “tendons” in it. My father was in fish and meat trade for 40 years I know good produce when I see it. Disgusting quality and no sign of a rebate. Avoid Marstons like the plague.

Arrived at the knot and plough to eat and drink. My wufe decided on the Turkey salad plate and I had a regular carvery. It took 12 minutes for someone to serve me at the carvery even though two staff entered the kitchen after stating "he won't be long" The young lad did not look very interested in serving me, all of the vegetables were either dried out or nearly empty. I returned to our table (22) and my wifes meal had not been brought out from the kitchen yet, I had already started eating by the time her meal arrived. All three meats and vegetables were at best barely warm. My wifes meal a healthy 9 pieces of thick turkey on a bed of salad, my wife received 4 pieces of turkey only and even finished her meal before I had. We are not in the habit of raising a concern but truly belive this visit warrants it. Given the extortionate prices you are charging then you should be way above the level hospitality that we received.

Arrived at The Charlie Purley in Bognor Regis for our reserved table at 18:15 on Sunday 26 July 2026.On arrival a staff member informed us that “food is taking around 45mins to be served”. He also said that the Carvery only had turkey, while we were deciding whether to stay or move only, the Carvery closed. This isn’t the first time that this has happened to us, after complaining then, we were assured that things would improve, they haven’t. We moved on into the town centre and had a great Chinese. We have now given up on the Charlie Purley in Bognor Regis, never to be visited again.

The Market Cross - Dunstable

Turned up at the market cross at 8pm where according to the signage outside Emma & Glenn welcome you Found a table and went to the bar to order food... "O we have stopped taking food orders because of an hour wait" How pathetic is that when the bar was 3/4 empty? Clearly Unable to manage customer demand.

And a pathetic claim that they had "made an announcement" which is of course totally inadequate for anyone who has just walked through the door.

I have just been out for lunch with my husband to Greenstone in Dereham on arrival the restaurant had probably more staff than customers at 13.45. We ordered drinks via the app and while waiting for these drinks the staff were not attentive to the order awaiting them in the machine behind the bar. We then ordered 2 gammon steaks with a portion of onion rings. The food was brought out in a reasonable time considering there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. The waitress could not leave the table quick enough to even ask if we required any condiments which I had to ask her to bring. Once we looked at the meal the egg had been cooked and was so hard I would not have served it up at home to anyone let alone to someone paying. The chips and onion rings were so overcooked that they looked terrible. The gammon was passable. When the person behind the bar collected our plates I explained that I was not happy and would he convey to the person who had cooked the meal my comments ( for the attention he took I am sure other it was dismissed before he got to the kitchen or it went in one ear and out the other. Meanwhile the waitress who served us was talking and laughing with two other staff at a table within the restaurant not at all concerned what was happening or not happening around them. Would certainly not being going back and no wonder places like this are not doing well with nobody on there with this attitude and mentality
