Title: A Disastrous Experience with Golden Gate Relocation
Unfortunately it's not possible to provide zero stars. I am writing this review after a thoroughly disappointing experience with Golden Gate Relocation. We recently moved from Cupertino, CA to Nashville, TN, transporting our personal belongings and the furniture from our small one-bedroom apartment. Despite being assured by the Sale agent that the truck drivers and movers were in-house staff, we found out that they were merely contractors.
The movers lacked the necessary tools to disassemble and reassemble our furniture, leading to my boyfriend having to step in and assist - a situation that should never have occurred. The incompetence didn't stop there. We were overcharged for space, billed for 1,100 cubic feet when only 648 cubic feet were utilized.
Our belongings were handled with utter disregard. A small bag containing heavy scuba weights (30 lbs) was irresponsibly placed on top of a stacked pile, resulting in the destruction of an expensive bin, damage to a high-end bike, and a ruined desk.
Our expensive bed with drawers was mishandled to the point of damage. The bed frame was missing screws, the headrest and footrest were damaged, and the drawers no longer fit properly. Our bookshelves and desk were permanently damaged, and a recycle bin was damaged to the point of causing me a leg injury.
To add insult to injury, we were charged for wrapping materials that were never used. The movers even used our own bubble wrap to secure the glass from the damaged desk. Despite not owning a mirror, we were inexplicably charged for mirror wrapping. The original estimate of $5,300 ballooned to an outrageous $8,200 due to charges for unused packing materials, additional fuel, and other inexplicable fees.
On the pickup day, the movers arrived a day later than expected, and without even assessing our belongings, they immediately claimed that our goods would not fit in the agreed space and that we owe them additional money. Jim called the day before the drop off asking to pay before the movers would arrive, as opposite as what we were told. The movers arrived 20 days later than expected and were very unprofessional.
The customer care service completely lack of empathy.
In summary, our experience with Golden Gate Relocation was nothing short of a nightmare. The lack of professionalism, care, and transparency has left us with damaged goods, unexpected costs, and a bitter taste in our mouths. I strongly advise against using their services.
N.B. GGR is trying to block many bad reviews, holding onto anything they can.
Golden Gate gets the job done.
Nightmare Experience All Around
Poor communication, disturbing pickup experience, damaged items, no real recourse for a claim.
The movers did not communicate to me until 5pm on the day of the move (I was told to be on hand, and took off work to do so. I could have worked had I known they wouldn't show up.) At 5pm they said they'd arrive at 7-9pm. When 9pm came and went with no word, I prepared for bed. They then arrived at 10:30pm reeking of weed.
Then no word for three weeks. Only a single text informing me that they would have an ETA for me in the next 24 hours. That turned into days, as the person handling my move (by her own voluntary admission) went on vacation. I was given a Friday window between 4-6pm.
On Saturday I went to an appointment, still having not heard a peep from the movers. They contacted me while I was out to inform me they were 15 minutes away and that I should hurry.
My belongings were damaged; I was handed one of my bookshelves in stick form. My sideboard has one side crushed and is completely unrepairable and unusable. I was directed to file a claim with movingclaims.net.
This site is a scam, frankly. I wouldn't be surprised if it was operated by the same people.
Professional and Accommodating
I had a wonderful experience with GGR for my cross-country move. They were professional and accommodating. I moved several times in my Army career and these folks get it, and know how to it well. I would recommend them to anyone.
Moving is SO stressful and GGR made it 10x WORSE!
I recently hired Golden Gate Relocation for my move, and unfortunately, my experience with them was far from satisfactory. There were several significant issues that marred the entire process.
1. ESTIMATE: Initially, I was impressed by the salesman’s courteous demeanor and patience during the estimation process. However, despite clearly expressing my preference for an overestimate to avoid budget constraints, the final bill ended up being almost double the quoted price. This significant discrepancy of over $3,700 was financially burdensome and completely unexpected.
2. PICKUP DAY: The pickup day experience was less than ideal. The crew's late arrival and their subsequent departure for an extended dinner break were frustrating and inconvenient. Dinner could have been done on their own time and not mine. The rescheduling of the work to the next day caused further inconvenience, and the packing method employed resulted in a chaotic and disorganized unpacking experience. My husband was within 5-10 minutes walking while they were loading the entire time, available at the drop of a dime if needed but they asked him to let them do the work and to leave the unit while packing. My daughter and I were never there as I didn't want a two year old in unsafe conditions of furniture out of place and heavy items that could possibly tip. My husband was there to sign the paperwork before they left, the foreman failed to do a final inspection with my husband.
3. FORGOTTEN STUFF: One of the primary reasons I opted for a full pack service was the expectation that all my belongings would be packed and ready for delivery. Unfortunately, I found that several essential items, including kitchenware and cleaning supplies, were left behind. This lack of attention to detail was disappointing and inconvenient. If I'm booking a full pack I expect the people who are packing to walk around and open every cabinet to make sure they got everything, that responsibility doesn't fall on me the paying customer.
4. DELIVERY: The delivery process was the most disappointing aspect of my entire experience. Despite specifying the desired delivery date as June 30th, I later learned that this only marked the first available date for delivery, not the actual delivery date. Consequently, my items were delivered a week later, leaving me in an empty house and incurring additional costs for alternative accommodations. Moreover, during the unloading process, the moving crew damaged my new house, including my entryway door frame, and failed to inform me about it.
5. CUSTOMER SERVICE: My attempts to address these issues with the company's customer service representative, were met with resistance and argumentation. Her refusal to acknowledge the extent of the problems and the lack of accountability left me feeling disregarded and unheard.
In conclusion, my experience with Golden Gate Relocation was marred by inaccurate estimates, delayed deliveries, careless packing practices, and inadequate customer service. The subsequent discovery of broken items upon unboxing and the unreported damages to my new house only added to my disappointment. Regrettably, without any satisfactory resolution, I feel compelled to share my negative experience with others to caution them from encountering similar issues with this moving company.
Added note - Once my claim was processed through "my moving claims" I was offered $60 (my claim was well over $3k)... before they pay me any sum of money though I am required to remove any bad review I have posted about them. SO BE AWARE the good reviews are probably fake and the bad reviews are peoples honest experiences who aren't being "paid off" to remove their honest experiences.

Working with Whitney was terrific
It was easy and great to work with Whitney. She made sure that we understood the details of how we were going to receive our goods that were moving from CA to NV. Her professionalism shined through, and it made a big difference. Thank you.
WARNING
I STAND BY MY REVIEW! I assisted Lauren Bistodeau with her move and dealt with the foreman in person who accused me of being racist and Jim directly on the phone. The lack of professionalism and disrespect is unacceptable.
WARNING, WARNING DO NOT USE- POOR COMMUNICATION, HIDDEN COSTS, UNETHICAL, RUDE. Their website only shows good reviews and doesn't allow you to make a review- but read the reviews- all 1 star reviews has the same experience. They are sleazy salespeople to get the job- and then become rude, condescending and poor communicators once they have received a deposit. I don't know how any good human could be proud of working for this company. Jim is the absolute worst- I wouldnt be surprised if the positive reviews were hired, people or family members. Dishonest.

Dishonest, rude and unethical business practice. Avoid at all costs!
I strongly advise against hiring this company under any circumstances.
Unfortunately, my experience with them has led me to initiate legal action. In a nutshell, they provided an intentionally underestimated quote to entice me, made enticing promises, and required a nonrefundable downpayment.
Regrettably, the actual cost of my move ended up being 50-60% higher than the initial estimate. They justified this increase by claiming that the accurate measurements of my belongings exceeded their original estimation. Moreover, instead of their own dedicated moving team, they used contractors and a generic u-haul truck for both pickup and delivery.
To make matters worse, nearly every piece of my furniture sustained damage during the process. Additionally, they left boxes and wrapping paper outside my house, expecting me to clean up the mess. Lastly, their claim agent offered me a mere $91 as compensation for my expensive broken furniture.
I hope sharing this information will assist prospective movers in making more informed decisions when selecting a moving company.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. This company is the biggest scam I've ever dealt with. I moved from CA to FL. They said it would take 10 to 20 days. We were moving into a new home so we stayed in a hotel for almost 30 days until the furniture arrived. It cost me a lot of money for my family to stay in a hotel and eating out everyday. No communication at all. Then they said I owed them another $2330.00 when the truck showed up. Either the estimator was an idiot and incompetent or they scammed me. How could they have missed so much stuff. I only moved on bedroom set and two sofas. I finally told them I had contacted my attorney and then they said it was being loaded on a truck and ready to leave CA. They dropped my goods off and left half of the boxes outside and left without telling me. They lost a $1500.00 Ethan Allen chest and several broken items. My attorney is contacting the Bureau of Household Goods and the States Attorney’s Office. No one should have to endure what my family has gone through. Please, if you are considering using this company, please contact me at

Golden Gate was great to work with
Golden Gate was great to work with. They communicated with me the whole time. When ever I had any questions, they were there to answer them for me. My move was smooth and all my stuff showed up exactly like it left my house.
Golden gate has been great with…
Golden gate has been great with communication and also wrapping my stuff and making sure it is fully secure . I just recently moved and they were great . I would recommend this company for anyone who’s had trouble in the past with a moving company , just to show you that there are good moving companies out there . Golden state relocations been like family to me during our move . Thanks golden gate .
STAY AWAY FROM THIS DISHONEST COMANY
STAY AWAY FROM THIS DISHONEST COMANY. In California, even interstate moving should get the permit from CA government while they don’t have that permit at all.
1. They let me sign valuation section(insurance) of lading contract without explanation then THEY THEMSELVES added “60 cents per pound per item” to the box where should be written by me, the customer. So now I can only claim $10 for a laser printer $18 for inversion chair.
And the company even attempted to deceive me into signing another page of the contract with a lower weight on the pickup date.
2. Their sales representatives gave misleading estimates and then switch out the team of movers who actually execute the move. The final estimator came to my house and refused to take my family-use size treadmill saying it was too big, unless I add $150 even if I reduced significant number of boxes and belongings. He also claimed my regular size sofa too big.
If I didn’t agree with it I lost the deposit.
3. They forced me to sign the delivery confirmation before I even saw any of my items. I don’t even have time to test my monitors and tv they just LEFT WITH WRAPPING PAPER AND PLASTIC ALL OVER THE ELEVATOR. Moreover they refused to unwrap one of the sofa, dresser, tv stand.
4. Significant damages. One of my chair was lost, my printer broke into pieces, furnitures were damaged and many pieces of furniture hardware were lost.
5. The sales representative promised a delivery time of 3 days, but the contract allowed for a range of 1-10 business days. The items finally arrived 12 days later. The sales representative denied promising a delivery time of 3 days.
6. The delivery team attempted to charge additional fees not specified in the contract, including an elevator fee and long-distance fee, despite the loading zone being less than 75 feet from the elevator and no steps being involved.

Wish I could give them 0 stars!
Wish I could give them 0 stars!! Gave us a $6200 quote for our out of state move. Required a $2100 deposit paid in advance. On the day of move they showed up 3 1/2 hours late leaving us to bake in our car at our storage unit waiting. There were four guys who all but one couldn't speak english in a budget rent a truck. When they showed up they pulled out some of our stuff and took photos (climbing all over our boxes to take photos of the back) then their manager calls us and says we have more stuff than quoted and tells us it will be $16,000 to move us. $10,000 more than they originally quoted!! We're seniors on a fixed income and certainly couldn't afford that. So now they kept our $2100 deposit (which is a fortune to us) and left us hanging and having to wait 3 weeks before a reputable company can move our belongings. Plus customer service even refused to talk to us about this matter. This is a very unprofessional company. Beware!!!!!!

1 star

I profoundly regret contracting Golden Gate Relocation for my move. I only give 1 star because there is no option of putting zero. From pick up, the shadiest of impressions, a rental truck and a car appeared with a crew of 6 individuals; no uniforms, no training, no care for your personal belongings and no commitment to the “White Glove” service. Maybe paid by the job, so the faster they pack the better, for the next nine hours I struggle, unable to be on the sidelines just to watch them drawer dumping my stuff into boxes. Furniture wrapped with paper and plastic, no blankets, no crates (promised) for the delicate items, no care for antiques, things got scratched, no disassemble provided, just dismantle furniture to the last bolt and as I found at delivery, no box of parts was to be found to put things together. Delivery crew was also dumbfounded and unable to put my things back together. At delivery an antique lamp came wedged between two bicycles, not wrapped even in paper, bare and on the floor of the truck, not even tied. Boxes came broken, opened, scratched and deformed. Items are lost, furniture is damaged, things are not put together. I felt like a hostage during the move, they “have” your belongings, your family history, your personal stuff, still you have to pay. My only hope came when customer service contacted me, surprised on my experience they requested fotos, I thought, maybe management will do something… nothing. The final response is “file a complaint”, you are sent to a third party vendor who will take seven days to respond, what do you do until then? I’m in the meantime left without assembled furniture, with an incomplete move, paid in full for services not rendered and exhausted and upset without control. Awaiting the claims response, following the process as best as I can. I sincerely regret contracting GG for my move, stressful, disappointing, frustrating, hurting and to close expensive, which might be ok if at least you get the service.
The movie showed up performance was…
The movie showed up performance was intimidating because of the boxes that I had to move they charged me $6,000 which is supposed to be $4,388 first you show me a $8,000 till I start crying they would not take my credit card for the move I had to have cash check order cashier's check I was misled I gave a credit card payment for the moving date appointment after that they wouldn't allow me to use it and took all of my savings that I had to move because they would not use my credit card I've never had a company to make me cry before like this company and on top of that after the foreman left three workers two other men the driver and the other Jordanian man Abe's cousin start fighting at my place and on the parking lot it was a horrible they spent so our neighbors to see that and tried to stop them and the third worker try to stop them also had a more level head on him I have learned my lesson things will not clearly explain to me I'm a senior woman 67 years old I would never trust this company again or Christopher clay but I will pray for them cuz they need to be more professional explain everything to you so you can clearly understand it especially about boxes and what the list I gave him is saying that it wasn't on the list the patio set and the list that I gave him from the other company his competitor it was on that list and that's what he supposed to be going by never again and they would never get any referrals from me they cursed me but I in turn bless them according to the Bible
I can’t verbalize how smooth my move…
I can’t verbalize how smooth my move was. Basically , I moved from a one bedroom from Los Angles to Memphis Tennessee , as a newly divorced 38 year old female, without extra help. I state this because I had such a feeling of support due to the coordinating efforts provided by the gentleman who helped me from step one (the first phone call). Christopher Clay was beyond helpful and went above and beyond to say the least. He kept it simple ; and I needed simple ! Furthermore , the eta and timeline , delivery window the movers showed up 4 days early…..again and again , Thank you Christopher Clay for your help and patience as this was my first cross country move. Additionally ,
Gentleman who were physically doing the the moving , Tim & Abe were very good with packing, and delivering etc. professionals from beginning to end .This helped make my New Year start off excellent and will never go with another company again. Thank you and best to you and the crew !!
