The teachers are great. Beginner classes work really well for me. Additional events like trips are also fun.

The Learning Management System can be improved. I struggle finding the correct units and lessons and the Quizlet beginner cards don’t have 汉子.

Great school, well structured and organized curriculum.

This is an extremely professionally run school that definitely exceeded my (already high) expectations.

Not only were they able to prepare and tailor their study curriculum to my very individual needs (something that other schools I’ve talked to couldn’t since those schools basically had to stick to one or two books with pre-defined curricula) before me starting my lessons, but also were they very flexible in additionally adjusting it each and every lesson depending on any short-term thoughts and needs that I had.

I got two teachers that shared the teaching load - both were extremely well prepared, great teachers and very well aligned between each other when handing over from one to another. Moreover, they really did everything to optimize my learning experience and outcome (e.g., by providing additional learning materials).

Additionally, I really liked the overall atmosphere in the school. Each colleague was super nice and open; you could feel that everyone was getting along with each other very well so that it also felt a bit like a small family.

Special shoutout also to my designated „handler“, who went beyond and above for me from the first point of contact throughout my whole time at the school and who organized everything from curriculum design to teacher scheduling and who always made sure that I was happy with everything and who I could talk to in case of any questions (or complaints that I didn’t have at all).

I can definitely recommend this school highly.

I learned about Go East roughly 2 years ago. At the time I was a complete newbie and only happened to read about the company from some online blog post.

Intrigued, I wrote them a email and my very first 1v1 lesson was a free trial via zoom. Right away I was able to get a good sense of learning and engagement.

Everyone I've dealt with so far (be it teachers or language consultants) have been extremely kind, friendly and beyond accommodating. They are extremely flexible and want their students to learn but also be at ease.

For anyone who is serious about learning Chinese, rest assured as Go East is top rated for a reason. While many may complain about pricing, they take pride in their students and strive to make an unforgettable learning journey. Thank you Go East!

Hi I wanted to share with me experience with the GO EAST I really like the education system . The lessons are very convenient to teach, the teachers explain everything very clearly, I liked everything very much.

I have been going for private 1-on-1 Chinese class with GoEast for about 9 months. My assigned teacher is excellent. She does a great job keeping the class engaging and educational. I’m improving quite quickly if I do say so myself. The online material is also real helpful for preparing for classes. The teachers and staff are helpful and responsive.

I first heard about GoEast from a friend I hadn’t seen in six months—his sudden fluency in Chinese amazed me! He highly recommended the school, saying he felt like he was wasting the last five years learning with private teachers and on his own. He wished someone had told him about this school earlier because it’s where he finally started making super-fast progress.

That convinced me to give GoEast a try, and I couldn’t agree more. What makes it stand out is its focus on conversation skills. In my case I was using Duolingo before, but unlike apps like Duolingo, which I found very limiting for real-life practice, GoEast pushes you to speak and engage. Plus, with the app doesn’t explain grammar/words rules, which slowed my learning. However, at GoEast, the teachers explain everything clearly, which makes understanding and progressing so much faster.

The teachers are fantastic—super nice and always checking in to make sure we’re doing okay. They also organize non-mandatory monthly events, which add a fun and social aspect to the school.

If you want to make real progress in Mandarin, I can’t recommend GoEast enough!

This program and school has been an absolute delight for learning. Everyone I have met has been so welcoming and helpful. My Teacher is Olive Gou and she has been such an incredible and patient teacher with me. She’s helped me really grasp the essence and beauty of this language. Overall I would say the course load is very well put together. Gives you the ins and outs for the language as well as helpful tips for everyday life and usage in the early stages. I am so thankful for beginning my journey in Mandarin and can’t wait for many more challenges ahead!

I had a great learning experience with GoEast. I would say the best part is how structured the program is. They match you with a program consultant, who is very helpful and supportive. They also have very clearly laid out class materials, which helps to stay on track, even if it's a 1:1 class. Teachers were really great too.

One downside is that you have to purchase 50 classes at once. It was a huge financial commitment, which was a lot for my uncertain circumstance.

I found out about Goeast through instagram, didn't think much about it before but I must say, it has been one of the best investments for someone like me who does business in China. It has helped me gain a lot of confidence and it has also helped me a lot with my business. Lexi and Vivi both are amazing, big thumbs up and highly recommended.

I HIGHLY recommend this Chinese language course. Like most people, I tried to learn Mandarin on my own through Duolingo, Mango, HelloChinese, etc., however personally I could never keep myself motivated to continue. I decided to pay for this course and I have been very happy thus far. I’ve completed two semesters so far (all of HSK1), and already signed up for another year. The content is divided into small chunks of vocab each lesson that are palatable and not overwhelming. The online videos/lectures are succinct and easy to follow. There are no required exams, however I find that just maintaining the preparation needed for each lesson is more than enough to keep most of the content fresh without constantly needing to go back to learn old words/phrases. They recommend you watch multiple videos of that week’s lesson before class so you are familiar with the vocabulary, and from there they build off your base level understanding and challenge you in class.

If you have the means and are someone like me who needs that external pressure to continue learning Mandarin, I don’t think you’ll be disappointing taking this course!

I’ve been studying with GoEast for about 3 years, using a one-on-one lesson. So far, it has been a highly productive experience. The lessons are taught using the HSK system through HSK4, and then they switch to a text book. Each lesson is presented with support from PowerPoint slides, but the presentation style allows for conversation throughout the lesson, so I get a lot of practice speaking. Even at the beginning, the lessons are almost entirely in Chinese, with us only using English when expressing an idea in Chinese was too difficult for my level. I have had the same teacher for the whole three years, so she knows my ability well, and she has been increasing the speed and complexity of her speech as my ability improved.

The cost for the one-on-one lessons works out to ~$30 per lesson, and groups of lessons (minimum 50) are paid in advance, so the one-time cost is fairly high. However, the quality and consistency of the lessons has been worth it.

I am currently in the Intermediate-Advanced spoken Chinese course and I have been taking this course for almost 7 months now. I really appreciate the material that is taught in this course as the topics we discuss are relevant topics that I would discuss with anyone in the real world. Everything has an application. My current course is 2x a week and I am in a group class. My class currently is only 2 other students so it is very small. The way the course is set up is very nice and I enjoy it because we first learn new vocabulary and then listen to the lesson, answer questions about the lesson, and then practice what we have learned. I think what is most valuable about this course is the opportunity to learn how to use the vocabulary because I feel like rote memorization is not conducive to long term learning. My only feedback would be I wish I could reschedule missed classes somehow but not sure how that would work. It is also a bit on the pricier side in terms of lump sum but I do think if you are able to, this is a great way to learn as it is quite personalized! Would recommend to anyone thinking about taking a course with GoEast!

After studying Mandarin for 3+ years on my own using various learning apps, I was offered an opportunity to try a free 1-hour lesson with an instructor from GoEast Mandarin. It was a great experience, and I decided to enroll in one of their small group classes. After my first lesson, I realized that I personally did not thrive well in a group setting so I decided to cancel the class. The instructor who conducted my free lesson reached out to me and offered me the option of private lessons with her. Of course, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to work with her. It was so helpful to be able to speak live with her and use what I worked so hard to learn. Her positive and encouraging feedback was immensely helpful. She has become not only my mentor, but a cherished friend, as well. I highly recommend this company for anyone who, like me, wants to become fluent in Mandarin and wants to use it to speak to Chinese people in their native language without fear or embarrassment.

Studying at Goeast it’s more than just learning mandarin, I had the chance to make friends, understand different cultures and experienced amazing things all through mandarin. The teachers can understand quickly your needs and shape the learning on the go. I love to go every week to Goeast campus in Shanghai and feel the warm atmosphere, but also feel good support when I was busy and had to have on-line classes, both methods work very well for me!

My learning experience at GoEast has been both but incredibly worth it, impactful and memorable! From the teachers to the learning environment, everything is just delightfully different & enjoyable there! The teachers are so helpful, kind and hold unique skills of teaching and delivering the language to the students no matter how old you are. It an absolutely amazing school!

I’m genuinely amazed at how much progress I’ve made in just a few years. When I first decided to learn Chinese, I enrolled in GoEast’s 1:1 Online Classes, which included supplementary materials that made learning enjoyable and effective. I quickly advanced through the beginner levels and continued studying up to HSK5. Without the expertise of GoEast’s teachers, supportive staff, and study methods, I couldn’t have reached conversational fluency this quickly. Special shoutout to my teacher, Jean, who not only guided me through the language learning process but also helped me build confidence in speaking—a vital yet often overlooked aspect of language learning. I highly recommend GoEast to anyone serious about studying Chinese.

I doubt the validity of the reviews on all the sites. I will write a real review about this school. Never visit it! I do not advise anyone to apply to this school to not feel persecution and extortion.
I will tell you right away: it is very uncomfortable, stuffy in the classroom, at the entrance there are a lot of people sitting at computers(not students) and you feel uncomfortable, because there is not even a lobby at the entrance and there is not even a comfortable toilet. Although I would like to point out that this is by no means the cheapest school in Shanghai.
Besides, as soon as you get there you will be written and written in vichat and offer to buy something from them. It's very annoying. And I really don't advise you to take a trial lesson there, because after it there may be even more surprises. By the way: in this school do not offer a trial lesson . They offer to buy classes of 50 hours or more. I asked about the trial lesson myself because in other Chinese language schools with not a small price it is there and it is offered.
And they don't ask you to pay for it afterwards (more on that later 😂).

I asked for a trial lesson at this school and asked how long it would last. The manager (named Lexi) said that she could give me a free trial lesson for 2 hours. I didn't care, I could agree to a trial lesson of 30 minutes. It was the manager's own decision. I did not promise anything or make any contract. Nor did I make any promises. There was no talk that I would have to pay for the trial lesson if I didn't want to study Chinese at their school. Of course there was no such conversation.
I didn't like the trial lesson and I also didn't like the fact that the manager Lexi came after the trial lesson, which lasted about an hour or so, and started asking me again and again with a disgruntled face what kind of package of lessons I wanted to buy at their school. I said that I would think about it. But the manager was not interested. She didn't want to see me off and insisted that I give her an answer about payment. It was horrible. In the end I didn't wait for her to say goodbye to me, I took my things and left. Then the manager wrote to me again and again for a month. I tried to be as polite as possible. And I told her that I would think about it and that I didn't want to go to their school. All the messages she wrote to me in Russian, because I am Russian, although I always answered her in English.
After a month or even more after a trial lesson which lasted an hour, Lexi's manager wrote me again and again that I MUST pay for 1,5 hours of lessons as they were not free.

Over the course of a month, I received so many messages from her where she literally forces me to buy a package of classes from their school.
These messages were big. I have now deleted her contact but she continues to text my husband as well.

Now it looks like extortion. And on top of that if you don't buy anything from this school you will be texted over and over again.
Anyway, it looks terrible.
But I still took screenshots of her extorting me for a free trial. I mean, she decided after a month
she decided it was a free trial for 420 yuan. If the manager decided to give me a trial lesson longer than their custom, she must have had some kind of profit. I don't care.
Besides, I didn't like the manager right away. And all the time asked about payment and money and especially almost nothing about me and my impression of the lesson and the school.

Despite the fact that she writes all messages in Russian. I think this is a worthy story for social networks. Besides, translating her messages into Chinese is not a problem. I wouldn't be surprised if the school principal is unaware of her actions. There are many good schools in Shanghai with polite attitudes and lower prices!
In the message she writes - according to our agreements, which didn't happen! That's a lie. If they were, then why is there no confirmation of it? Extortion of money and deceit.

I have been taking 1:1 classes for about 1.5 years now and I’ve advanced from a complete beginner to HSK3 level. The in-person teaching is great, and my progress speed really depends on how much independent studying I do to reinforce the lessons. I’d recommend Go-East to anyone, and especially if you can attend in-person and not rely fully on the online materials. They are improving the online materials all the time, but the platform can be a bit clunky and difficult to use. My instructor, Sun Bei Bei, is wonderful and always patient with me while also holding me to a high standard. The scheduling is also flexible and accommodating to those who are frequently out of town. Highly recommended!

The teaching method is excellent. I have experienced material aimed at preparing for the HSK exams and now to practise conversation for several years. Also had the opportunity to go to Shanghai and meet the teachers at the school and experience the teaching and events in person. I highly recommend GoEast.
