Honestly the best experience, I went to Gap Medics in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. I was originally due to stay just two weeks but while I was there decided to extend my trip for a further week. The mentors were so inspiring and the Gap Medic staff at the house were so welcoming and everyone just went above and beyond to make the experience so enjoyable. The food made by Wilson has got to be a highlight, I miss it already. You always knew after a day of placement that you had dinner to look forward to. The excursions offered to us were super great, AND SAONA ISLAND is a MUST. It was paradise. I have met some incredible people, from all over the world. The future medics of the world. 100% recommend this experience.

Incredible! Every review I read said that it was the best time anyone's ever had, and I struggled to believe it, but it is true!
The Gap Medics staff are lovely, the mentors I had was so inspiring, funny and kind and I have made friends with so many of the other students.
The food is so good - all local dishes cooked by Wilson.
The house is beautiful and the trips they offer are well worth the money. Especially the visit to Saona Island. I recommend you do a night shift in the week so you can have Friday off then you can spend the whole day. (Free food and drinks!)
I was originally worried about the cost, but the trip was so good, I already want to go back again.
I would recommend 2 weeks minimum if you're travelling from the UK to make the flights worth it.

When I first arrived, I was super nervous but the whole team put me at ease at the airport. I was greeted by Rainer with a big hug! I was in Emergency Room, Pediatric Trauma, and Anesthesiology. All of the mentors are amazing. They take their time out to explain what they are doing and their english is good. My mentors are Dr. Almonte, Dr. Feliz, Dr. Galan, Dr. Adolphus, Dr. Mendez, and Dr. Garcia. I had such a great time on the outings as well with my group. I miss them all but we all stay in touch! My new friends are from all over the world including Australia, England, New Zealand, America, and Bosnia. I enjoyed my placement so much that I ended up coming for another 4 weeks. The second time I came, Erjohnny greeted me at the airport just like Rainer with a hug and smile on his face. The staff is amazing and I miss them all so much! They became family to me. Lourdes and Marie are amazing night shift supervisors they are very friendly and personable and really look out for you. My placement coordinator Erjohnny made sure that I was happy and had a great week! Wilson is amazing at cooking and always made sure I was well fed! Gerald was very nice and funny. Even though his english is very little, I enjoyed getting to expand my Spanish with the staff. Alicia gave me some really great information in our Global Health Tutorials. I had to leave early due to a knee problem but the staff were very helpful to me. Christiana from La Romana took me to the hospital and helped me out that day. The rest of the staff helped me out during that week as I was bed rested. When I left I cried for a good 20 minutes. I love Gap Medics and highly review and recommend them! I have amazing photos of surgeries. Thank you to all of the Gap Medics staff and my new friends for a one in a lifetime experience that I won't forget! I miss you all. I would love to come back!

The program in Pula was incredible. Each department I shadowed made sure I was engaged and learning throughout the day, and taught me about medicine, hospital work, and what it means to be a good medical student. I would recommend this program to anyone who is on the fence about medicine or totally on board and wants to see a small piece of life as a medical professional. Pula is also a great place for travel, sight seeing, food, and adventure activities!

Great experience! I was initially worried about going by myself, but the other students there were some of the best people I have met. We still keep in touch and it is definitely something I would recommend for anyone wanting to try something new. Santo Domingo was a beautiful city!

GapMedics was by far one of the most delightful and educating experiences I've been on. The staff were great and facilitated my enjoyment within Warsaw. I loved it and I hope to do it again some time.

Since booking my trip with gapmedics, I have run into an issue with my travel dates. For the last week, I have tried every aspect of contact email phone any number or email that is listed on their website with no reply from Gap medics. When I showed interest in booking a trip with gap medics I could not get away from emails and phone calls wanting to know when I was going to book. It is extremely frustrating not to be able to speak to a person or receive replies to my several emails. Almost afraid to be out of the United States and overseas should my parents or somebody need to contact me in case of an emergency. Still trying to contact Gap medics hoping this issue will be resolved soon

I can't wait to go back to Santo Domingo! Everyone was so helpful and welcoming. It was easy to get settled in and feel part of the community. I learned more about nursing during my short visit than I ever expected. I'm so glad that I found out about Gap Medics!

I done a 2 week lab/medical placement in the general hospital in Pula, Croatia. Week one I was in the Cytology depart and then week two I was in the Infectious Diseases depart. Both weeks I spent there, I learned a lot of hands on experience, which further expanded my medical/scientific knowledge. What I learned in Croatia, I would not have been able to do in the UK, so it was worth the journey in going there to do the placement. Overall, I had an amazing medical experience in Pula, Croatia, and the knowledge and skills I gained was highly worth every penny. I'd highly recommend doing a placement with Gap Medics!

My daughter participated in the Gap medics programme in Poland during her half term break. From the the outset the company impressed me. Amber was our student experience coordinator and she was so attentive, helpful and efficient. The organisation of the website is amazing, ensuring that all information is available for both the student and guardian from the day one signs up until the day of departure. The programme in Poland was a truly remarkable experience for my daughter and she really did witness life in a busy hospital. It was a real life experience and not ´sugar coated´as she put it and I feel that is what a medical/nursing student needs before committing to the long years of study to qualify.
The house in Warsaw was comfortable and the food excellent. The local staff were kind, committed and great fun and worked hard to ensure that the students had the best possible time on placement and in their spare time giving the parents at home great peace of mind. My daughter has been on many summer programmes and I can honestly say that Gap Medics and the staff outshone all previous experiences.

This was an amazing experience for me! Not only was observing medical care and procedures from within the room, I was also experiencing a new culture and place! I also made the most amazing friends, enriching my time in Croatia even more. I would highly recommend Gap Medics to anyone wanting to, or considering, a career in healthcare.

I’ve been travelling with gap medics around the world for 3 years..I went to Thailandia that unfortunately doesn’t not exist anymore as a programme, Dominican Republic- La Romana and my last one destination was Croatia ( two months ago), and I can say that these were the best experiences that l never done. Before talking about my experience, I’d like to say some words about gap medics people that work from the office that help you a lot before the departure along with special requests, flights and everything you need, they are always so kind and available, and once you arrived at the gap medics house, there is always an amazing stuff that make you feel like at home : for example during my time in Croatia that was my recent one, they were amazing, after my night shifts in the hospitals there was always someone that worked as night-supervisor that cooked for me and waited for everyone was not in the house and during the week and weekend we planned together what to do following their suggestions.
I think Gap medics is more that just a trip or just a placement...it’s invaluable experience that teach you a lot in terms of knowledge for who wants to work in Healthcare field and especially you learn directly how to approach to a patient, you can see different realities, you can shadow different doctors in different wards which explain to you case by case, you can see how different hospitals work as every week you change hospital. in Croatia I did especially the night shifts in ER and l found them really interesting, all my mentors were amazing, well prepared and even at night when they were tired or didn’t have time, we practised on the bandage how to suture a wound or they told us different drugs used depends on the case, different pathologies, different examinations and exams by giving us a lot of information. In the OR, even during an surgical operation, doctors and our mentors were so nice that explained what they were doing and the different procedures performed.
A part from the placement, you meet new people and make friends from different part of the worlds and during your free time you socialise and you can do different activities exploring the city. there are different community involvements activities that personally l loved when l was in la Romana as we went to villages and orphanage to do something concrete and real and make you a different person. In addition, l really liked also the global health tutorials during the week that give you the opportunity along with your placement to learn about the different health care systems in different countries and also different topics in the medical field related to the society, the medicine field, future prospective, nowadays problems such as HIV, abortion etc.
The gap medics house is really comfortable, you have pools to relax after placement, the food is delicious and every night there is always a vast range of choice. You can also buy stuff for yourself even if the cupboards and the fridge are full of food.
I really loved my time in Pula, the beaches were beautiful, we did snorkelling, tour on boat to see the islands, adventures with kayak to reach amazing caves, Clift jumping and shopping in the city centre..and people are just lovely and friendly. I strongly recommend this programmes to anyone who really wants to work in the medical field and also at the same to anyone who wants to have fun in a clever way.

Gap Medics is the best thing I have ever done! I didn’t know what to expect when I first booked onto the programme and was so nervous to go, as I had never travelled alone. But I’m so glad I did it, as I got to shadow the most friendly nurses and learnt so much, by seeing very interesting operations and procedures. When I got there the staff made me feel so welcome and they are all so lovely and chatty. One of my placements was ENT, I had Nurse Iva as a mentor, she was so lovely and helpful. Not only did she show me the nursing side of practice but she encouraged me to watch procedures such as skin cancer removals, tracheostomy’s and so much more, which were performed by doctors.

My other department was Internal Medicine, where cancer patients were being treated with chemotherapy. My mentor was Boris, one of the nurses in the department. He not only showed me the part of Internal Medicine he worked in, but I also got to see every other section in Internal Medicine, as he made time to show me these. Both nurses answered all my questions and gave me the opportunity to see things that I would struggle to see in the UK. I not only met people from all round the world, but have met AMAZING friends for life. As well as placement, you get so much time to socialise and explore Croatia. I’m so glad I did Gap Medics as it has confirmed what I want to do. I would 100% recommend it to people who want to go into a medical profession!

Gap medics was a wonderful experience. The staff were supportive, kind and friendly. I made life long friends with many of the staff. The hospital was incredible, the doctors were enthusiastic and passionate. Most of all the fellow gap medics students were amazing. Meeting like minded people was incredible and the friendships formed will last a life time. I cannot thank gap medics enough for the wonderful, one in a lifetime experience.

Gap medics was an amazing experience, one I am so glad I had the opportunity to be a part of. I learned so much in the hospitals with amazing mentors as well as at the global health tutorials. The staff were all amazing and so friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone with an interest in working in healthcare!

GapMedics was the best learning experience I could have ever asked for. Whether I was at the hospital or the house, I learned so much from everyone around me and enjoyed every minute of my experience. I would recommend this program to anyone who has a passion for medicine and wants an amazing view on how things are handled in a foreign country

Gap Medics was a truly unforgettable, life changing experience. The accomadations are amazing, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the program is very well organized. I can assure you that anyone who has an interest in medicine will fall in love after spending one day at the hospital.
I would recommend this program for anyone wanting a career in medicine. Furthermore, anyone interested in becoming a physician should try the Community Medicine Placement. This was my favorite placement during my three weeks because it allowed me to connect with the patients and follow through with there treatment plan.

Gap Medics was a life changing experience!!! I went into my placement thinking it would be a fun time and look good on my resume, but I learned and witnessed so much! I got to learn so much about the local culture and healthcare and meet so many really amazing people. My week in the Dominican Republic really changed my life! An amazing trip! Once in a lifetime experience!!

I had the most amazing time and gained valuable experience! It was testing st times as the care and health services aren't the same as in the UK, however I couldn't fault my mentors or the staff on site at the Gap Medics house. Everybody was so friendly, welcoming, very approachable and willing to talk, have fun and arrange activities for all those on placements. I would very much recommend this company again and would be more than happy to choose this company for my elective placement when I'm in third year.
