I joined Global PreMeds for two weeks in the Dominican Republic. The staff both in and out of the hospital welcomed me with opening arms and helped me to make the most of my time on the program, enjoying every second of it. Not only did it improve my general knowledge in the medical industry but the program left me with so many amazing memories and friends that I will remember for a lifetime! Being given the opportunities in the hospital to witness so many medical procedures and the general environment helped me to confirm that I would really love to be a nurse. We also had the opportunity to take part in many more activities such as snorkeling and horseback riding. I couldn't recommend it enough!

Last summer I spent one week shadowing doctors in a hospital in the Dominican Republic. I can honestly say it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life; I was able to watch caesareans, leg amputations, hernia repairs and other general surgeries. If you want to study medicine I can think of no better way to learn whether you are up for the challenge of being a doctor!

My global pre meds experience was July 2019 and it was the best weeks of my life. The process of researching global pre meds and booking my two weeks was so easy and they provided me with all the information I needed and all questions were answered. They also supplied me with extra information on how to book flights and get the best insurance for travelling. On the run up to my flight date I was contacted regularly to ensure any last minute questions or nerves were reduced and answered. Throughout my two weeks I got to experience things I never thought I would at the age of 17 such as C-sections, hernia removals, Xrays and everything in between including a natural birth on my last day! As well as shadowing my mentors I also got to explore the Dominican island on horses, boats and quad bikes. The staff in the Dominican house were so supportive and did whatever they could to accommodate you. My 2 weeks absolutely flew by and I’d do it all again in a heartbeat!

Deciding to go on a global pre-med trip was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. It cemented my choice to become a nurse and was one of the greatest experiences I could’ve ever asked for. Watching surgeries and babies being born was so surreal and exhilarating. The doctors we got to shadow were all so nice, knowledgeable and funny. All of the staff at the house were all so caring and welcoming. The other students I met on that trip quickly became my friends and I still talk to them quite often. The excursions were a great treat and helped us all bond even more. The government hospital in the La Romana, Dominican Republic was a huge eye opener for me. The supplies and resources available as well as the building itself is quite different to what we experience here in the states.

If you have the opportunity to go on this trip, all I can tell you is 100% DO IT! You will not regret it and it will stay with you for a lifetime.

I have been interested in the medical field for most of my life so when I found Global Pre Meds I was ecstatic! When I first left from California I was so nervous that I wouldn’t make any friends or that it may not be as good as I was expecting... I was SO wrong. When I first arrived EVERYONE was so friendly and welcoming it was lovely. I stayed for two weeks and everyday was so magical. I was able to go into the operating rooms and watch one or more surgeries everyday which I absolutely loved. All the mentors were so informative and helped me learn so much. I was able to watch and do things like casting a friends arm, that I would have never been able to do in the US and I will forever remember that! The way healthcare works in the Dominican Republic changed the way I think about medicine and underdeveloped countries which will always stick with me. I made life long friends and had the best experience of my life. The surgeries I was able to see we’re AMAZING! I wish I could’ve gone longer. Every person on the Global Pre Meds staff in the Dominican Republic and in the UK were so friendly and helpful! My experience wouldn’t be the same without them. While The medical procedures I saw were life changing, the activities we did after leaving the hospital were just as life changing. We had beach time, ATV riding, island cruises and so much more. I had the best experience of my life with some of the most amazing people i’ve ever met. I continue to talk about and use my experiences back home all the time. Thank you so much Global Pre Meds for the best experience of my life!!! I can’t wait to book another trip!!

global pre meds helped me solidify my choice in career path. the organization helped me to build my already established love for healthcare in general and globalized medical care. in my future I will be focusing on globalized medical care as a profession and Global Pre Meds helped me to further realize the need for worldwide medical aid.

Global pre-meds was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I went over a year ago and I met friends from all around the world that I still speak to now.

The medical side of it is an experience that is unmatched- all of the medical professionals were extremely friendly and helpful. Writing about the whole experience definitely contributed to my medical school application process.

I made memories I’ll never forget and I’d recommend it to anyone!

During the past few years, I developed a great interest towards the medical field, but struggled with the fact that I lacked experience in understanding hospital life from a doctors perspective. In order to solidify my decision towards studying medicine, I participated in a 2 week program called GapMedics in Croatia during my summer holiday. This provided me with the opportunity to make new friends from different parts of the world, who have the same interests as I do. In the department of Radiology, I was able to watch CT scans, MRI scans, ultrasounds, and even tried to use the ultrasound machine on my friends. In Obstetrics and Gynecology, I got the opportunity to witness both vaginal births and caesarean sections, in addition to a laparoscopic procedure, addressing a patients ovarian cancer. I was amazed to see the level of cooperation between the doctors, and the heart-warming atmosphere after childbirth was unforgettable. These numerous experiences allowed me to further appreciate those working in the medical field and the advancements of science. I am so glad that I took part in Gapmedics and recommend it to anyone who is interested in medicine!

Last year I travelled to Dominican Republic for two weeks to gain experience in a hospital to help me confirm my want to be a midwife. While there I gained so much knowledge in the medical aspect but also came away with amazing friends and memories. After placement we were able to go on trips, my favourite was the sunset cruise which also allowed us to go snorkelling. I 100% recommend this programme as it is worth the money and you won’t regret it!

I joined globalpremeds in the summer of 2019 in Pula, Croatia. To say that this program surpassed my expectations is an understatement!! If you’re thinking about going into healthcare, this experience is a MUST! During my stay there, I saw 5 natural births, a leg amputation and numerous procedures in the ER and the clinic. The mentors spoke very good English and took their time to explain everything to us. The afternoon activities were very well organized, fun and relaxing. Most importantly, I met many wonderful people and we’re still in touch!

literally the best experience of my life !! not only was I able to watch incredible surgeries and witness people have life changing moments, I was able to make life long friends who have the same ambition in life as me. It truly is a once in a lifetime experience and what you learn about not only your future career but yourself is so worth it. The team at the house were incredible and made the house so homely (they seriously
become like your family away from home). I couldn’t recommend this trip enough !!

Global Pre-Meds was one of the best experiences I've had in my life. First off, the medicine I got to witness was incredible. Not only did I learn about how hospitals work and how they're run, I learned first-hand how to administer ultrasounds and PET scans. I also saw multiple surgeries, c-sections, and live births. Furthermore, the friendships I made are ones I still cherish. There is something special about the bond that forms through GapMedics that transcends continents. GapMedics really helped me be more certain in what I what to do in the future and clarified the path I want to take. 10/10 recommend!

Extremely disgusted by these people. My daughter signed up for the program in Dominican Republic. Very expensive program ( airfare NOT included) we tried talking her out of it, however she borrowed the money to pay for it, thinking she’d work all summer to pay it back. Program was to go May 23 to June 6. Covid hit. They cancel obviously, but WILL NOT refund her money. Say that they aren’t backed by a big corporation so they can’t refund. Excuse me? She had JUST sent the money in weeks before.
I went round and round with TOM BARLOW. Begging them to refund the money, she will literally work all summer to pay off her debt, for nothing. The dates for next May of 2021, will not work for her.. so they gained $2500 and my daughter is out the money and experience. PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS COMPANY. OUR KIDS DONT MATTER, THEIR MONEY DOES THO. Just a very gross interaction with them.

Our son decided to apply for this programme. After learning that the programme did not include flights, we immediately requested a withdrawal of his application. This application process was on a Sunday, we cancelled within 30mins and as there was no-one within Administration to deal with his application, were dismayed to learn that they would not return our 350 (UK Pnds) admin fee. Excuse being they had already completed his application process - this was very far from the truth. Having been in contact with both Tom & Dave Brown (Director) and given the current Cover-19 situation worldwide - they still refuse to return the funds. Their process is not clear of what is fully included (eg. flights) and no initial mention that the application fee was non refundable. They have offered no assistance, no compromise or possibly changing to a later date. It is clear this is a trap that everyone when considering Global Pre-Meds be aware from the outset. Ask questions, gain clarity before you sign up and release any funds as they will be returned.

extremely upset that @globalpremeds promoted by @hosafhp will NOT refund our money for a summer program that THEY cancelled for June and are not offering for a future date in June. If they aren't offering June dates in 2020 or 2021 they should refund our $$$ #financialhardship

My Global Pre-Meds experience was awesome. It allowed me to see the reals aspect of medicine (consultations, different surgeries). This trip convinced me about many things regarding this profession that was in my mind for a while. I recommend this organisation for every students who, like me, wants to confirm their interest regarding medicine. Global Pre-Meds also allows students to choose which specialties they want to know more about. Also, the staff in the houses make sure of how is your trip and are very open to your comments and questions and make their best to accommodate you. Also, the Global Pre-Meds houses are relaxing and offer a variety of activities to do. The staff organize activities during the weekends or during the afternoons depending on the group's interest.

My experience with global Pre-Meds made me discover the real medicine not only the grey's anatomie one! It also made me discover the reality of the medical system of the Dominicans Republic and encounter great people from everywhere on the globe tho whom I still talk to. It was the experience of a lifetime and I will aways remember this amazing trip.

I absolutely loved the 2 weeks in spent in the Dominican Republic - I would recommend it to everyone. The program was really well organised - from the airport pick up to the hospital placements I always felt safe and knew exactly what was going on. The accommodation was always clean, the food was amazing (thank you Sandra!), and the evening/weekend activities were so enjoyable. In the hospital, the mentors were really inclusive, helpful and made sure I saw the most interesting cases. For anyone looking for unique and varied shadowing experience, Global Pre-Meds is exactly what you should do.

This experience was new and very insightful for me because I have never been out of my country alone. I signed up for two weeks to go to the Dominican Republic. There I learned so many things, saw many surgeries that I thought that I would have never would have saw. This opportunity helped me decide if I really wanted to go down the medicine route in university. If you are deciding whether to go on this trip or not, here is what we did. Sunday was the day I arrived in the Dominican Republic and the councilor from Global Pre-Meds was waiting for all the students arriving outside the airport. The next day was when we all left to go to the hospital and got assigned to specific doctors that would explain the surgeries. After the day at the hospital, we would arrive back at the house and then can choose to do an activity (go to a beach for example). After the activity, we arrived back at the house and would be provided dinner. Then we would have some free time to get to know the people around us. Everyone I met was so kind and the food was just AMAZING! It was very delicious! Saturday is a full day trip which was lots of fun! ( I went to an island with everyone and it was really exciting). Then Sunday is when new people would come and its a relaxing day before the week starts. To sum all this up, Global Pre-Meds helped me decide if I was interested to work in the hospital and if I enjoyed being in the surgery room. I learned many things and saw many different surgeries. If you are worried about making friends or being alone, trust me, if you try to communicate with others then they will talk to you because everyone there was truly very nice and wants to make new friends as much as you do.

Incredible experience, it was the best summer of my life so far and was a great way to meet like minded people. However it is obviously expensive with other expenses when you get there if you want to be part of all the activities. Otherwise it was great and everyone there was really nice and supportive, both the staff and the mentors.

I have learnt so much from my placement in La Romana, Dominican Republic. The program was so well organised - there was enough time both in the hospital and to relax. The staff were incredibly kind - they really made you feel at home and welcomed. They treated you like you were family, and they really made the effort to know each person individually.
I was exposed to many types of surgery and there’s always something going on. The doctors were informative and caring, again treating everyone as an individual.
Would definitely recommend Global Pre-Meds to anyone considering a career in health.
