I bought silver coins from them and it was a big mistake. They claimed that certain coins had greater value due to desirability. Not true. When I took them to a coin dealer, they were only interested in the weight. The people at Advantage Gold are non-responsive. If you call, you get voicemail and may get a response days later. I sold them back my coins. The cash was supposed to be in my account the next day. It took 3 days. Don't waste your money with these people.

My broker was very helpful in explaining different options available to me. The Company was willing and able to provide services that fit my person investment needs and ideals. They had services that fit my unusual circumstances. I'm glad I gave them a call and discussed my personal investment goals with an experience broker.

Let me say up front, they treated me well and were easily accessible.
But majority of the Coins they sold me were non-negotiable products. Like 1/4 oz Canadian wolverines and wild horses. That is, they were not actual currency like Canadian Maple Leaf or American Eagle.

They charged a 50%premium per oz over the current price of gold. Assuring me that at time of sale the coins would appreciate due being made for only 1 year (scarcity), as well as the appreciation in gold value.

However. When selling these coins back, their purchase price is 6% over spot (current) price of gold.
Example, say gold was $1000/oz. They sold me these "special" coins at $1500 / oz (50%) premium.
If gold has doubled, so $2000 per oz. They are offering me $2012. If I had paid close to spot price I would have made close to $1000 or 100%. Because they got me for 50% premium and only bought back at 6%. I made $512 or 51% So Advantage pockets the 44% or $440 on the sale.

So despite these coins being out of production for 5 years they did not appreciate enough in value due to scarcity to overcome the high, upfront premium.

Also keep in mind that gains tax on precious metal sales is 25%.

The American Eagles they sold me were sold at 3% over spot. So when gold doubles these coins double, and my profit nearly doubles. This is because I didn't pay the 50% premium.

Yes, I made a profit on these other coins, But much less than I would have for eagles or maple leafs.

Buying actual currency means you won't pay these overly high premiums and will actually get more precious metal.

I'm not saying don't buy from Advantage. When I priced the sale of my coins at other brokers, they were offering well below spot.
Also, I recognize that they have overhead costs like shipping, insurance both ways and wholesaler inspection on incoming product. So some premium over spot is understandable.

Just be aware of the magnitude of the premiums you're paying up front.
