Steer clear of this company and choose somebody else. They have NO emergency service! My 91-year old parent's chairlift quit last night half-way up the stairs. They had to call 911 to help them to get the rest of the way up. I called Acorn today to request emergency service. The earliest they could get someone there to fix the problem is in 5 days! My parent's are stranded upstairs for 5 days! What kind of company doesn't have EMERGENCY SERVICE for situations like this?? What if there was a fire? What if they needed to get downstairs in an emergency? They are stuck! Now I have to arrange for someone to bring them food upstairs for 5 days. It's a horrible situation. This company needs to do better and plan for situations like this.

UPDATE: It's been 4 days since I wrote my initial review. While I appreciate Acorn's quick response to my bad review, I sent them an email 36 hours ago, as they requested, with detailed information. (It did not bounce back, so I assume they received it.) No response from them. None. My parent are still stranded upstairs. In desperation, my father has started to crawl on his hands and knees up and down the stairs using the chairlift rail as a railing to get to the kitchen. Not a safe situation. I can only assume Acorn is going to make my parents wait the stated 5 days for a technician to come fix the chairlift. Acorn is a heartless company.

There was a bit of confusion at first. A gate was to be removed before installation (which it was) but I didn't realize that I had to contact the company the tell them. After a couple of months of waiting, I called. They put me on a short list and installed the lift quite soon after that. Since I was in the hospital on the day installed, I missed important instructions. The service person came out and gave me complete instructions, professionally and with courtesy.

Customer service was outstanding from quote to install. Now I don't have to worry about my spouse falling down the stairs!

The installer spent only about 5 minutes after the installation.

We went through Acorn as an emergency to put a stairlift in my home.. the guy who came out did his spiel about the chairlift and the service we could expect from it, forgot his name but have it in my records... so we agreed to purchase one, Lo and behold it was the worst mistake of our lives.. This stairlift is so heavy it tore my treads in half on my stairs and im not really happy about this.. the installer who installed the chairlift took a hammer and was hammering the screws into the steps in which the tracks sat upon it and he cracked 2 of my treads, didnt realize this untill 2-3 weeks later.. had he drilled the screws into the stairs the way he was supposed to none of this maybe wouldnt have happened... after it was installed we started using the stairlift and my steps being hollow as they are and no one said this breakage of the treads would happen, due to the weight of the stairlift.. my treads started breaking due the the heaviness of the lift and the track, Everytime we used it you could hear the steps cracking.. We had to stop using it so it wouldnt crack anymore of the treads...havent used it since sept 15th, it just sits there and cant be used..
Now we call Acorn and tell them our story of the stairlift and what it has done to our stairs.. we have been dealing with a guy called Jason Matthews... he started out to be someone we thought we could trust and in helping us to have our stairs repaired,, he out right lied to us.. he had said you need to find a contractor, now why would i need to find a contractor, isn't that their job..? you sell these stairlifts and you dont have a contractor you can go to to fix the problems...? something wrong with this picture ! we found a contractor to fix our stairs and now they dont want to pay the contractor ,nor do they want to pay me where i can get the contractor to repair my stairs... Jason Matthews lied to me and he thought he probably seen another sucker he can do in.. " dont work like that Jason.. " i have ask these people over and over for a refund on this stairlift and have it removed from my home and to repair my stairs and they flatly refused to do anything about it... we have been going back and forth on this since September and frankly i am over this... im going to my states consumer affairs office and having a written document against Acorn and make them pay me... im also going to the BBB and filing a complaint there as well.. then if needed i will get a lawyer and sue the F... out of them and God forbid i fall down my stair due to the cracks in them i will put Acorn out of business in this country... and for all you people out there you need to look closely at your stairs to see if any of your treads are broken and if you have carpet you best check, these stairlifts are heavy and they will tear your stairs up Rudy Fri

I saw the stairlift commercial and it took me longer to decide if I wanted the lift installed to getting it installed. A month latter, I decided, I do want the lift installed. Called the number provided and 2 weeks latter I had the stairlift installed. Could not have gone better. The very nice lady who I first talked, to the gentleman who came to do all of the measurements and to the young man who installed the lift, all very professional.

Every person that we dealt with was the greatest. The lady we first contacted, the salesman who came out and the person that installed the stairlift. Answered all our questions. Were patient and took their time to make sure everything was correct.

I was promised a stairlift would be intaled in 7-10 days of first payment and I have just been informed that installation will not occur until 2 weeks and 2 days after my payment. This is completely inacceptable for someone declining with ALS.

Patrick the sales person was respectful and did not pressure me in any way. I appreciated that in making my decision to go with Acorn. Gordan also was respectful and installed the lift in a timely manor.

The installer who installed the chair was friendly, worked fast, and explained usage. In fact, I believe Acorn was the fastest company service I had ever experienced

I requested stairlift quotes for my elderly mother to keep her safe on the stairs. Acorn was the third company we met with and the experience was not positive. The representative took photos and measurements but did not provide the same level of education or guidance as the other two companies. Both other providers recommended installing the lift on the right side of the stairs due to safety and layout. Acorn recommended the left side without explanation beyond outlet placement and dismissed the other companies as “wrong,” which did not inspire confidence.

Acorn’s initial price was noticeably higher. The representative then pushed a limited-time “promotional price” that reduced the quote by about $1,000, around ten percent. That type of pressure-based sales tactic feels outdated and inappropriate in the stairlift industry where vulnerable customers and caregivers are making serious safety decisions.

A follow-up call from Acorn’s call center was even more concerning. Instead of answering questions about value differences, the representative questioned whether I understood the comparison, claimed competitor dealers “low-ball” pricing and then charge high service fees, and argued they cannot diagnose or service equipment. This was especially concerning because Acorn requires an annual diagnostic fee for its own system. The tone was dismissive, aggressive, and not customer-focused, and the call ended abruptly with the representative telling me to go with the competitor and hanging up on me.

Stairlifts are not a casual purchase. They are essential for safety and peace of mind. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Acorn.

Sales representative was excellent in explaining Acorn’s product, taking measurements, and guiding me in making some changes to my old house to accommodate the stairlift. The installer also knew what would work best and was 100% committed to my being happy with the results. I’m delighted with the stairlift that was ordered and installed, it’s not as intrusive into my living space as I feared it might be, and it’s making my continuing to live in this old house much easier for me. I couldn’t be happier!

Both Michael and Jim were on time, friendly, courteous and got the job done quickly.
Michael was the person who sold the unit and Jim was the installer.

We live in a farm home constructed around 1930. The stairs leading to our bedroom and bathroom are very steep which at our age and health are a tremendous challenge. Since the installation of the Acorn stairlift (9/19/25) our bodies are at ease and comfortable. The stairlift is very easy to operate making our days far more enjoyable.
