The Taylor Wimpey dream......
We bought our home 3 years ago with Taylor Wimpey.... I would highly recommend them if you don't have a life and love sending lots of emails and making lots of phonecalls to get things sorted.
The customer service is absolutely shocking! If you submit your snags don't think that's the end of it as you will probably have to resubmit them many many times again. Then even when they do finally get round to sorting little bits, they don't do it properly and then you've got another email and phonecall to make!
I covered all my snags in the house with post it's.. And lots of them, they were very easy to see as they were everywhere and yet when the revelant people came in to fix them, they still didn't rectify them.
Our walls weren't painted properly, although one of the painters we had in was fantastic and did what he could to rectify it.
An hour before we moved in they decided to change a full height door(under our stairs) to a smaller door, so we didn't even get to move into what appeared to be a perfect house as there was alot of wet plaster over the gap!
The woodwork under the stairs was dreadful although we did manage to get them to fix this eventually.
We had broken roof tiles.
The gardens are horrible! Full of clay and various other building site rubbish buried under the tiny layer of topsoil. My daughter tripped over what looked like a small stone in the summer that had come up through the grass.... I went to pick it up and literally had to dig out a massive chunk of concrete! There is literally no drainage in the garden, we had to employ a landscaper to install a patio area alongside some gravel just so we could walk around it and try to drain off the water otherwise it was like walking over a swamp!
The boilers they install are cheap rubbish, We've had to have parts replaced on ours and had to have engineers out on a few occasions to fix it, which isn't what you expect from a new boiler!.
One issue we had was the quick turnover of site managers meaning that work that was organised then got dismissed when a new manager came on board and then we had to start the process of resubmitting the snags again. Yes, you have 2 years for Taylor Wimpey to rectify them but it will be a long two years. When it was coming to the end of our 2 years, I spent alot of time communicating with them to get the larger issues rectified and decided to abandon all hope on the smaller issues and decided we would fix them ourselves.
The brochures and show homes look fantastic but the experience of owning a home with them is somewhat different. If you decide to embark on this *adventure* of buying with TW then be prepared to fight.
