Two-tier media regulator Ofcom never fails to take a swipe at broadcasters such as GB News, for merely doing their job and bringing the reality of modern Britain to our screens. But its vastly increasing army of pen-pushers is about to get a big boost…

The organisation has posted a £1.8 million contract for “the provision of recruitment process outsourcing services” for up to 5 years from February 2026. Interested organisations can apply through the regulator’s own ‘Bravo’ contracting portal. The spending is expected to fund more costly online censors as Ofcom tries to grapple with its new remit to regulate the internet. Not £1.8 million for new staff, but simply for outsourcing their recruitment to an external provider…

For a budget of £1.8 million you could:

Hire 68 new British Army soldiers.
Buy 1,125 hospital beds.
Provide 9,000 pensioners under-79 their winter fuel payment.

Controlling overlords.

Taking away the rights of the British people. People are allowed privacy. ID and Biometric data can be easily hacked, sold and shared. This a human rights breach.

Suffolk no DAB Multiplex operator after 11 years!

Hopeless website - trying to find out why we get very poor FM reception and terrible DAB - turns out that Suffolk is the one place they don't have anyone working on this even though the agreement to do this was made in December 2014! So 11 years and there is no one to talk to or complain. It is shocking that in this day and age you can't get these services with a proper signal that doesn't break up all the time or no signal. Tried to call but no answer so had to give up.
They are hopeless

Alex gave excellent information and advice on number porting problem

Sky failed to port my landline telephone number and are being completely unhelpful in trying to resolve the issue. They also appear completely clueless about how number porting works.
I telephoned Ofcom and spoke to Alex who explained exactly what had probably happened and where my number most likely was (with BT after it was released by my previous provider). He also explained several options for a resolution or raising a complaint.
Thanks Alex.

Ofcom - a regulator with no teeth or will to use them

Spoke to them about stupidity of their home phone digital switchover guidance. Spoke to someone who kept talking over me and may as well have been a chatbot. Usual lines like - we don't investigate individual complaints, we can't make broadband and/or home phone providers follow any guidance - plus numerous other patronising comments. Obviously think they are something special and achieve nothing for the public.

What a ridiculous organisation and…

What a ridiculous organisation and rule. To have to re-enter a pin code to watch continous programmes in a session on Sky Atlantic etc. I can understand having to enter the pin code once but to have to enter it after each episode has finished and new begins is unter overkill. I do not have children, no under age people in the house and have no visitors that come in the category of under age. Why I can't make a choice to turn this facility off I will never know. Stupid ruling, ridiculous process all for the sake of under 18's, why should I be expected to manage this as a adult I will never understand.

What an utterly useless organization…

What an utterly useless organization Ofcom is, set up by other useless people in Government departments to "regulate?" services in this country. All organised by successive Governments to look after wealthy individuals and companies who provide terrble services to the general public and get away with it. The recent fine given to Royal Mail is a point in question, where the £10 million they have to pay for being one of the worst companies in the UK, will be passed onto their customers. So Ofcom, Parliament and the Government, how does this make any sense? A better idea would be to perhaps sack incompetence instead of rewarding it, eh Starmer?

Ofcom is absolutely USELESS

Ofcom is absolutely USELESS. Why do they even exist? You can't respond to my complaint. You can't Investigate or force the company to do anything? So What Use are You? But then... why would Ofcom take action against companies that pay them fees to cover their operating costs.

OFCOM fall short... again

OFCOM have just introduced new rules designed to stop Telecom providers raising prices mid contract but their rules are neither retrospective for existing customers and offer little real protections when taking out new contracts. See MSE for more details. Honestly what's the point of this truly useless, toothless and spineless organisation?

They have just lost a High Court case against GB news ( Sir Jacob Rees - Mogg) from May 2023. Ofcom have to pay GB news costs.
This is a very significant failure by Ofcom and it's decision take GB news to court and attempt to stop free speech.

Refusal to help

My vulnerable 89 year old mother-in-law pays for a landline and broadband with Vodafone that has stopped working. I tried to report this to Vodafone but they refused to do anything about it because I was not the account holder (in a similar situation last year, BT simply had an engineer check the line with a timely, professional, no fuss response). Vodafone turned it into a data protection issue - which it isn't because I'm providing information, I'll know if it works by a successful phone call to her, or an email from her.

So I phoned Ofcom, whose operative continually fobbed me off by saying pretty much what Vodafone said, saying that they need an account number to check a phone line. This is not the case (note: I have a degree in Communications Engineering). Or to say it's a data protection issue. This is not the case (note: I am my company's data protection officer). All in all a wholly useless exercise. There is no provision to help the vulnerable, except for a hideously offensive remark from the Ofcom woman that my mother-in-law should give someone power of attorney.

It doesn't seem to me that Ofcom is doing its duty. Certainly there's no duty of care for the vulnerable.

Ofcom sum up

Offcom sum up , Ofcom is like a repetative public enquiry going no where and doing nohing but repetative acknowledgement of their repetative failures . with out power to directly stop or intervene on mobile netwoks failures to cover All areas whilst taking billions from easy to supply areas . Not servicing the more difficult areas must be an enforced by trade law for all providers Shut them down and fine them if no compliace , far to much profit and no propely coverd services in far to many areas .
