On 2nd February 2026
On 2nd February 2026, I sent an enquiry to Murray Volkswagen, Plymouth, stating that a Vehicle Inspection reminder had appeared on my dashboard.
On 6th I sent a reminder that I was awaiting a response. On 9th I was informed my enquiry had been forwarded to the relevant department, and I also received a text at 11:26am stating that a voicemail had been left when somebody had attempted to call me - I do not have voicemail!
At 12:11pm I tried calling back, but the recipient was unavailable.
On 16th, I reminded Murray Volkswagen that I was awaiting a response to my enquiry from two weeks earlier. At 12:56pm, I received a text asking for vehicle details. A further text confirmed that parts for my vehicle were being sourced. I replied stating that I had sourced another avenue for the parts, but that I would still like the inspection carried out.
On 19th, I received a text stating that my vehicle would get booked in the following day. It wasn't!
On 26th February, I received another text asking for my vehicle details again!
On 5th March at 2:39pm, I received a call asking for a suitable time for me to bring my vehicle in for an inspection and replacement parts. I explained that I had already sourced the parts and that I was no longer going to use Murray Volkswagen to conduct the inspection, more than two months after my initial enquiry.
I can NOT recommend Murray Volkswagen and would be interested to read their response to this series of events.

Have tried to reject a brand new Tiguan black edition and there after sales is shocking our car is causing us severe back pain and whiplash injuries when it performs random emergency stops steer clear of Volkswagen if you don’t want the same problems
Excellent customer service
Excellent customer service, especially from Becky. She was pleasant and helpful from start to finish. When we got the car home and realised there was a small problem with a headlight, we phoned and were told to bring the car strsight in. The headlight was sorted and we were given a courtesy car while it was in the workshop.
You cannot fault this excellent service.
After-sales Service Sadly Lacking
We purchased a year old car from Murray in November 23. The service that we received was excellent. However, this seems to be a case of once they have your money, you have had your quota of good service. Every time we have had to take our car in to them, be it planned or reactive work, the complete job has not been done and it has had to go back in again.
We have just had the car in for a service and I received a fancy video saying that the work was complete and listing the findings. It said in the video that items marked red were urgent and should be addressed ASAP.. It marked the brake fluid as red and asked me to tick the box if I wanted them to carry out the work at a cost of £89. Extortionate but necessary, I thought and ticked the box.
Move on a few hours and I turn up to pick up the car to be told everything was fine, no problems found and I was free to take it. I questioned the brake fluid issue only to be told that it hadn't been done because I hadn't responded. If wanted it done today, they would see if it could be squeezed in but it would be an hours wait (approx) or i could bring it back later. "But the report said it was urgent", I replied. Well, apparently this isn't the case. It just means it hasn't been changed in two years - basically since it was brand new.
When I questioned the point of sending out these fancy videos, the cost of which are probably built into the cost of the work, I was met by a "not my problem" attitude.
As I am unable to bring the car in for the next six weeks, I felt I had no option but to wait for it to be done. To add insult to injury, they no longer provide a free vehicle collection service even if I did want it to be dealt with at a later date and I would have to sort out the logistics of getting it to the garage once again. As I live outside of Plymouth, the service that used to be complimentary would now cost me £20. Poor customer service but there seems to be some hope that I will be placated with a good coffee machine and soft drinks fridge. After all this, they should try putting some gin in it!!

Exceptional service from Murray’s - Lewis Jones in particular! As a visitor to Plymouth, my car developed a problem and was taken into Murray’s for diagnostics. Although the workshop was fully booked for 3 days, Lewis managed to organise for my car to be repaired the same day, meaning I could return home (80 miles away) as planned. In addition, he transferred all my bags from the courtesy car back to mine. What a gentleman!! Thank you, Murray’s.

Greta-Again the manager has refused to replace my £320vw car key-unuseable for 1year due to unreliability after car delivery man dropped it 5ft into a wet letterbox & didnt notify me car was there so left overnight in wet.Also my car ins terms are to lock my drive gates overnight so as I didnt know my car was back the gates were unlocked .Legal advice says garage IS responsible for this key damage +any to car also.Now I do not feel able to trust Murray Newton Abbott with anything and have NO spare key at 77 &disabled .Legal action will ensue +tot up their bill so v v unwise Murrays whose reputation will suffer now.

Everything was superb when it came to selling me a car.. aftercare was a completely different story though! My car was sold to be with NO lock in wheel nuts (i was driving my newborn around in "a completely unsafe car" -AA) admittedly I not notice this, nor did I think I should be checking such things purchasing through a VW dealership. After having a separate issue with the car, I asked for it to be fixed in my local branch. So much back and forth from myself was needed as Plymouth VW did not act on it when asked. I was told I would receive a gesture of goodwill to apologise for the incompetency .. did I.. no. I even chased this and still are yet to receive a call back from the sales manager despite being reassured by different members of staff that emails and messages had been passed on. Would not recommend this dealership.

Lee Cussen Murray VW Plymouth
Throughout a long and sometimes difficult order process, Lee Cussen at Murray VW Plymouth has been extremely helpful and supportive. We are not quite there yet but Lee continues to provide much appreciated guidance. Car salesmen (salespersons ?) sometimes come in for a lot of criticism (warranted in some cases) but Lee is an absolutely top guy and deserves any credit which is attributed to him.

Rude! But on the plus side they enjoy an argument and do a good line in condescending manner. So when you are unsatisfied, which you will be you can look forward to a good argument with a condescending employee. Hoorah! That's what I always enjoy as a customer.
The worst main dealership I have ever…
The worst main dealership I have ever dealt with. Couldn’t get paperwork correct, couldn’t even give the right bank details. Told me to collect my new car which is a 6 hour train journey when they didn’t have the paperwork done and even worse didn’t know when it would be done. Communication terrible and took two weeks to get my deposit back. Couldn’t even fit the correct mats to the vehicle.

Very poor after sales service
I bought a Volkswagen Polo in January 2023. In March the drivers window control panel stopped working. I went to Murray Volkswagen and they said they could not get the part as it is made in Ukraine! How is it they are still producing new cars with this part. Not one person has contacted me with an update or solution!! Absolute shocking after service. I will never buy another car from them or recommend the garage to anybody! Still waiting 8 months on and still no one as called or updated me!
Terrible experience
Terrible experience, travelled 5 hours to this garage to purchase a 30k car. Was getting phone calls at 10am asking where was I, I was late…. Upon arrival didn’t even get offered a drink, salesman Jon parsons rudely said hurry up my wife’s in Matalan so I need to get her I’m on my day off actually! He was reluctant to let us test drive the car and said have a quick look round and pay then I can go. Handed me the keys over and said sorry I have no keyrings and still 8 weeks later I have no keyrings. Dealership manager martyn failed on 2 occasions to call me back so clearly doesn’t value customer experience. Do not buy from this garage you will be disappointed. Also contacted vw customer service at head office who assured me that he would call me when back from his annual leave on 4th of October…. Still waiting. If you don’t buy a brand new car you’re not a valued customer.
Professional from start to finish
I had the pleasure of dealing with Murray Volkswagen Plymouth and the very professional sales executive Rebecca this week.
The sales department and management were without doubt the most welcoming and attentive team I have ever dealt with and I should know as I had over 10 years working within a motor trade sales environment. From the moment I entered the dealership and started my dealing which took a few days of me going back and forth due to not really knowing what I myself wanted, but, Rebecca put me at ease and eased me gently towards my purchase she was polite friendly and very understanding of my situation being extreme anxiety, which was ongoing over the last few years.
I placed an order but the following day after a sleepless "buyers remorse" night I decided to withdraw from the order. I emailed Rebecca to inform of the situation and she could not have been more helpful and understanding, so I tip my hat to you Murray Volkswagen in your highly professional acquisition of employment of Rebecca she is a credit to your company and indeed all the management also in their understanding. I will indeed when ready will come back to Murray Volkswagen when I feel I'm ready to make my forever car purchase.
I would highly recommend Murray Volkswagen and they're highly professional and understanding team of sales women and salesman and indeed the whole management and staff including the very kind reception teams.
