Don't purchase anything from this company - Not worth it!

I hope someone out there learns from my experience with this company and opts not to purchase ANYTHING from them. I bought a pair of shoes that were way too wide so I returned them. I waited for awhile to see if the refund would come through and it didn't so I reached out to a customer care person via email. The person promptly replied that they received the item but hadn't refunded it yet because the refund department was behind. This person processed my refund manually but it was for $20 less than I'd paid. When I questioned this, they let me know that ModCloth doesn't refund the original shipping fee ($12.95!) and that they charge another $6.95 shipping fee to return the item. So I paid $20 for literally nothing PLUS my time for returning the item. Plus, I'm not convinced I would ever see a return if I hadn't reached out to them directly. Why bother risking it? Not worth it!

I am sorry to hear about your frustrating experience with our returns. It is true that we do currently have a $6.95 return fee for the use of our return label and do not refund original shipping costs as part of returns. Shipping costs are payments for a service that has been completed and are not subject to refund. Customers are also welcome to use their own shipping to return items to us if they find that is more convenient that using our label. While I know our return process can be on the slower side and certainly a part of our business we are wanting to improve, we do absolutely refund all return eligible items sent back to us, and if something is taking longer than it should, encourage customers to write in to our Customer Care department for us to look into the matter. This is where I got my wedding dress

This is where I got my wedding dress. It was beautiful which is why this is a 2 and not a 1 BUT their sizes are not accurate. I ordered a dress and it came in about two sizes too big. I was informed I could return it and was given the address. It was packaged and returned. I ordered the exact same dress in a smaller size. It fit very well and it was worn for the wedding. I gave it several weeks for a return to be processed but they never did. I contacted them regarding this and they said because I didn’t have courier information they wouldn’t refund me. So basically, I have one dress, but I purchased two.

I ordered flare pants that did not fit…

I ordered flare pants that did not fit at all. The button fell off as soon as I opened the package. I couldn't return the item because it was a final sale. Overall, terrible experience and I will never shop this brand or use the site again.

I ordered the bubbly feelings midi…

I ordered the bubbly feelings midi dress which had no care label on it. I washed it in the delicate cycle in cold water and the polkadots on it glued together and the dress is ruined after one wearing. I am very disappointed that there was no care label. If it is handwash in cold water it really should be written on the label.

Very disappointed in ModCloth customer…

Very disappointed in ModCloth customer service. I bought $70 sandals in March, did not wear until June, and one has fallen apart. ModCloth will not replace or refund outside the 28 day return window. I will not purchase from a company that will not stand by their product quality

Getting a refund for items I returned…

Getting a refund for items I returned is taking FOREVER. Like, over a month. Not OK.

Update - I finally got an almost refund. They charge a RETURN FEE. So....over 30 days without my money back and not hearing a thing for them, no "we've received your return" and then on top of that $6.95 return fee. Very very not OK.

Happy I gave it a shot

I'd heard conflicting stories of people's experience with ModCloth, and admittedly the reviews here don't make them look great, but I decided to order anyways and I'm glad I did.

I made the mistake of ordering just ahead of the Good Friday/Easter Monday civic holidays, so the package vanished from tracking for a bit, and seeing as I was in a bit of a time crunch as I am moving, I contacted customer service. Both the phone and email representatives I spoke with were very helpful, informed, and friendly. I was assured by the email representative that if the package disappeared or came too late and was returned, she would process a full refund immediately.

While the skirt I got wasn't really the fabric I was expecting, I still love it and it fits perfectly and I'm more than satisfied with my experience, I'll definitely be back.

Their discount policy is a sign of a bad company

Shipping is free on order of $125 or more, which is a ridiculous amount when the shipping cost on $100 of goods is $12. That's three items that way about 3lbs all together.

They offer discounts to students, nurses, doctors, military, but only on full priced items. This is so stupid because basically everything on their website is discounted by only five dollars. So sure there's a discount, but you won't be able to use it on anything you actually want to buy.

Customer service is basically non existent.

They are flat rates, rather than being based on cost or weight of items, and we have had to increase them over the years, due to increased internal costs. In terms of discounts, they do generally only apply to full-price items, unless otherwise stated in the terms & conditions. False Advertising!!

I purchased a dress that’s description was Orange. It’s the only reason I purchased it. The dress is clearly not orange, it’s yellow. I tried to return the dress but wasn’t able to because it’s “final sale”. I reached out to customer service.. being the dress I ordered wasn’t the color that it was described, I thought the company would do the right thing. Nope…was told sorry for the inconvenience, but I purchased a “final sale” item. They attached a copy of the policy for me. I wrote back, how was this my fault. The description was incorrect. Again sorry for the inconvenience but nothing we can do. Wow! What about false advertising? Isn’t misleading a customer still illegal? As a company you should be disgusted with yourselves. You have definitely lost this longtime customer!!

In response to your company's joke of a reply. I understand photography/lighting can alter a product’s appearance..slightly..at times. How do you explain the actual written description being incorrect??? Maybe instead of blaming customers and replying in such a condescending way you would have better customer reviews!!! No one was asking for money on these “final sale” reviews, just wanted the correct product size/color they ordered. Things that were not the customers fault. Merchandise credit? Gift certificates/cards? Heard of those?? If your system “won’t” let you fix these issues…get a new system!! Since I can’t afford another dress, I will not be attending the event with my partner. The plan fact is you throw a bs policy in your customers faces and have no idea or care in the world as to how it actually effects our lives.
Thanks for ruining a very important night in my life!!

Looks like I'm just another casualty

Looks like I'm just another casualty of the ModCloth customer service switch-a-roo. I ordered an item and was sent the wrong size. I tried to exhange it for the right size and was not given that option on the website. So I contact customer service and was told that the "don't have an exchange system in place with our new website and fulfillment systems." This just...does not seem true or legitimate in anyway. Literally every single company I've shopped with and worked for has been able to facilitate an exchange.

They also refuse to refund you on final sale items (yes, I'm aware this is part of their "return policy" but this should be amended if you receive the wrong item size) so that you can repurchase the correct size.

I have shopped at ModCloth for over a decade and have NEVER had this problem before.

Sadly, this love affair must end.

It is a limitation of our system, and we are unable to work around that. If an item is received in a size other than what you ordered, we are of course happy to assist with that, even if the item is final sale. However, returns cannot be made on final sale items if they were received as ordered. I understand your frustration, and will certainly share it with the appropriate teams.

Is this even legal what they’re doing?

Just received a few items that were final sale and none of them fit. I am unable to return them and now both items are no longer final sale on their site, just marked down by 30 percent. I feel this is a very deceptive business practice and I will be reporting this on the BBB. They used to have a great return policy, reasonable shipping prices, and quality clothes that you could count on to fit. You also can’t get ahold of anyone via phone without being hung up on. And emails take days and days to respond. What happened, ModCloth? This company is shady and they are no longer thinking in the best interest of consumers.

Is this a scam? Or are they just horribly unorganized?

I placed an order in 12/26/21. Both items were marked down significantly. On 12/29/21 a tracking slip was printed out, but nothing was shipped. I waited two weeks and crickets. The delivery date still said pending, nothing was shipped and there was no communication. So I emailed them and got no response. I looked up reviews online and read they are more likely to respond to chat messages on their website. So I sent them a message asking when my order would be shipped. Stating that I did NOT want to cancel my order I just needed some communication on their part. They did not respond. Then 2 days after I sent the chat I get a text message from PayPal stating that my money was being refunded. Absolutely ridiculous. I'm glad they are giving my money back without a fight but the way the situation was handled is highly unprofessional. Did they even have any intention of sending the items or were they hoping I would just forget about the money I spent? Also I still have not seen the refund post to my account so....well see when that happens. And then they continue to send me adds offering 30% off. Lol. Seriously? They either need to downsize or shut down completely. And ModCloth I don't want to hear "our customer care center is a small group". If you don't have the employees to handle large number of orders than downsize. I definitely won't be attempting to purchase from them again.

Been ordering since 2006 but never again

I've been ordering from ModCloth since I was in high school and I'm absolutely appalled at how bad it's gotten.

This past Black Friday, I placed an order for almost $300 worth of items, at about $150 thanks to Black Friday sales. Didn't hear a single peep out of them for nearly a month, until the week before Christmas, I get an email saying my order was refunded.

I ask customer service why this happened and I get ignored for two days.

I @ them on Twitter and get an immediate response to my customer service request -- and blocked by them on Twitter.

They tell me the order was returned to them so it was processed and refunded-- all except the $10 I paid for shipping.

I never got a shipping email. From all accounts, it looks like the order never left their building. It probably got lost somewhere and when they found it, instead of express shipping it to me AS THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE, they processed it as a return and decided to keep my shipping.

Nearly four weeks and I was not contacted about this once. I was not asked if I still wanted the order. Nothing. Not a peep.

I am understandably angry about this, but I am especially angry to find out that they then went and sold all the items in my order and now everything is unavailable.

Why does this make me extra angry?

BECAUSE I AM STILL GETTING ADS FOR THOSE ITEMS.

Two weeks later, and I am still getting ads telling me to buy the items back full price.

Now I have Christmas gifts that will be late to people. I tell them they need to refund my shipping and they do-- as a courtesy, they tell me.

You never shipped my stuff in the first place. You did not complete your end of the bargain. And now Customer Service Manager Aaron has the gall to tell me, "oh what a bummer?"

I have no faith in this company anymore. They clearly don't care about their customers. I can only assume this whole endeavor was just to make a quick buck by turning around and selling the items I ordered at full price. I've worked in e-commerce for over ten years and every company, from the smallest to worldwide will ALWAYS contact customers if a package didn't go out when it was supposed to. Not return it to the shelf and sell it, while pocketing the shipping.

The gall.

Need the right size? Think again!

It is ridiculous that customers are penalized for needing a different size! I followed the size chart on the website, but the sweater was way too big. So I looked into doing an exchange but they don’t offer them. For a company that is owned by Walmart you would think that they would be capable of handling exchanges. So in order to get a new size you have to return your original item and reorder in the correct size. Not only do you get $5 deducted from your refund, you have to pay $10 in shipping for the new item. If I would have known it would be such a headache ordering from them, I would have passed.

We also recently made some updates to our system, and sadly we simply do not have the ability to process traditional exchanges, in which you send back an item and have another automatically sent to you. Sale items are final sale

Every item that I looked at in their Cyber Monday sale was final sale. How am I supposed to buy any type of clothing or shoe item with confidence from an online seller that won't let me return an item if I dislike the way it looks once I receive it. I could understand this policy if I was trying the item on in store and able to test the comfort and see how it fits my body but this is not the case. It is also shady that the notification that the item is final sale is the same color and size as the notification that it is a door buster deal, the words final sale blend in with everything else. I looked at several garmets before I noticed the final sale notification then went back to check the other things I had been looking at and low and behold it was all final sale.

I agree with some of the reviews on…

I agree with some of the reviews on here regarding returns. I am a loyal customer of Modcloth since their humble beginnings. I use to visit their site (almost everyday because it's how fast they update their new stuff and the items are so adorable) back then. Remember Modcloth, when you had awesome returns policy before? adding $5 bucks to your refund if you choose store credit? and a minimum of $35 dollars spend for free shipping? I understand due to recent events business cannot sustain that but the drastic change in your returns policy blatantly discourages shopping on your site. Also: exchanging items should be free- period. I had one blouse that I bought that didn't work for inconsistent sizing (there is no absolute way of nailing down your size for a particular item, and it's one of the drawbacks for shopping online, it's frustrating) and I have to be PENALIZED for returning it as if it was my fault that it didn't work out. And if I decide to repurchase it in another size, you are forced to shop for more so you can meet the minimum purchase to get free shipping ($125 bucks?!) or maybe just suck it up and pay for the shipping of an item you shouldn't pay in the first place. Whatever you decide, it's a win for Modcloth and a loss for you. And don't think about trying to get a price adjustment on items you just bought before the items went on sale. If you decide to return them and repurchase them so you can avail of the sale/promotion, you have to pay for the return fee which makes you think twice if it's worth returning anyways. So disappointed.

Shipping Costs are OUTRAGEOUS

Their shipping costs are OUTRAGEOUS. When Modcloth was independent (before it was sold to Wal-Mart), it had reasonable shipping costs. Then it was sold to Wal-Mart and the shipping costs were FREE most of the time or GREATLY reduced! That was amazing and very competitive. Now that Modcloth has once again become independently owned, shipping costs have literally SKYROCKETED. It costs TEN DOLLARS to ship any order under $125!!! Are you kidding me?!?! I've not placed an order YET based on these price-gouging shipping charges. Don't gouge your customers in an attempt to recoup your buying back your company, Modcloth. :(

Wish I'd checked these reviews before ordering :( Just lost an hour of my life dealing with the most UNBELIEVABLY complicated returns process (for an international return) which is going to cost me a ton of money, for a bunch of shoes NONE of which fit me. I get that shoes are hard to buy online, but the sizing just seems mad. I really wouldn't have bothered ordering if I knew what a nightmare it would be to deal with the returns process. I don't think these guys are ready to do international ecommerce, particularly since their sizes are all over the place. Don't get distracted by the cuteness (they are cute, if over-priced), it's not worth the misery.

ETA: It took TWO MONTHS to get my refund back, and only when I chased them through online chat. Refund was then issued almost immediately. Was the intention to hope I'd forget about it and not pursue my refund? Such a shame. I love the aesthetic of this brand and the values of multi-size models etc but it just seems they're woke on the surface and shady underneath.
