Do not use this company

Do not use this company. Got told a handbrake adjustment was £120. They called me that day and said total price with labour, parts and VAT is £420. I turned up to collect the Vehichle and got handed a bill for £595! I had no call or update to say this price would change. I asked the receptionist about this and she was very rude and told me “that is the price and you are paying it” will not be recommending this garage to anyone.

To reply to your comment. This is a lie, I was polite every time we spoke about the van. Also the price of £420 was given to me after you had cut the locking wheel bolts off. The extra money was added on because you ordered the wrong size bolts 5 times, but still only used two bolts as that is all your cut off, then some how charged me around another £180 for it!

Felt betrayed I took my previous business elsewhere

I attempted to book a diagnostic on my vehicle, and it appears that my previous issue on the vehicle which I had a quote for, but then decided to go to another garage at that time due to convenience and at the same cost, this must have been flagged in their system.
I made the booking as this time it was more convenient for me, but about 30 mins later I got a call from the owner essentially accusing me of betraying them (I had been going for about 15-20 years). Not that I had to, but I stated the reasons why and as a customer it is my prerogative to choose what is best for me without judgement. He stated that it was his prerogative not to accept the work and suggested I go to the other garage instead.
For anyone reading this there no undertones to this, it is exactly as I write it and my wife was listening as well.
Admittedly the owner was polite, however it was most certainly a passive/aggressive approach and he was not happy I went elsewhere previously, he has now lost the business of my whole family, friends and neighbours as people are so incensed by this.

Parasitic drain

Really great service from Ricky and the guys at Independent. Been struggling for a long time at various garages trying to find a parasitic drain on my ford focus, without any success. They soon diagnosed the problem and 3 weeks on from picking up the car I can happily say that all is well. Thanks again guys. Kind regards. Dave Parsons.

Was recommended Independent Garage…

Was recommended Independent Garage online when my VW Caddy was due a replacement timing belt, water pump and front main oil seal. Their quote came in far cheaper than any other garages that I enquired at and the staff were all friendly and helpful - will definitely be returning for any work that I ever need to do to my van 🤝🏽 I would strongly recommend Independent to any VW group owners, cheers guys!

Rude & Outdated.

Rude, agressive, defensive, ignorant and a rip-off.
They trade on this quite frankly outdated business model of slightly undercutting main dealers, but the reality is those main dealers have MUCH bigger overheads and MUCH better customer service standards that these two clowns.
What you're dealing with here is a couple of old motor trade blokes milking it, and more importantly milking local people who have no interest or knowledge of cars so can't dispute anything, and if you do you'll get shouted down. If you challedge them they are agressive and defensive, so they argue their way out of challenging situations, where customer service is so important.
These guys are rinsing people, and sad to say mostly women. No discrimination here against women, it's just a fact sad to say. I just wish more women would go on night school courses on basic mechanics and if you did you'd realise i'm telling the truth.
They trade on people who are either not interested or have little knowledge of cars (their bread and butter and they like it that way), and anything challenging and they don't want it as it disrupts their sizeable income stream.
They just want to carry on lightening the bank accounts of customers in Chandlers Ford and Hedge End that 'just want their car MOT'd and serviced' and perceive they're getting a great deal in the process. They likely trade on all these people coming back time and time again, zombie-fashion. Happy days for them.
I wouldn't personally it's an awful company but more importantly run by awful people who are laughing all the way to the bank.
It's up to you though but i can categorically say there are much better workshops within a 1 mile radius of these two 'gentlemen' (see no evil hear no evil).

After having a problem with the previous garage, failing to diagnose the fault with my car… and before I go on, I must add that even though they failed to diagnose it they still have me back on four different occasions to try and help, but unfortunately on the fourth occasion I decided to then take it to another garage
So on the Monday night I dropped my car in so it was there ready for them on Tuesday morning
I was told that, as long as they could get the parts the car would be ready at the end of that day
It took the garage two full days to diagnose the problem (warped discs)
On the morning of the third day, they agreed to take out the work, which was front discs and pads and an airflow sensor
Shortly after agreeing to the work, I received a call to say they couldn’t get the discs and brakes until the following day which wasn’t possible as I had a hire car for three days which was going back that evening and I needed my car for work on the Friday morning as I am a private carer and had eight elderly clients relying on me
So I already had my car booked into the main Volkswagen dealer on the following Tuesday for a fault on my centre console, so I gave them a call and they said that they would be able to do the discs and brakes
I then went back to this company and told them
At 12 noon they agreed to doing the airflow sensor and told me that it will be completed by the end of the day
At 4:45 pm. I hadn’t heard anything so I called them only to be told that they hadn’t even started the work and that they would do it the following day
I literally couldn’t believe what I was hearing, especially after I told them how important it was for me to have the car the following day
I also couldn’t believe that it took them three days to diagnose the problem and not complete any work at all
Rightly so I became frustrated and told them not to do the work and that I would collect the car
I then received a call five minutes later, telling me that I had to pay them £118 for the diagnosis
I explained that they had the car for three days they had done no work to it. The communication was very poor and that I’d already paid £75 a day for a hire car which turns out was a complete waste of money and time
I became very frustrated
He said he wasn’t the reason for the frustration.
The only reason I was frustrated was because he had the car for three days and no work was completed.
He then went on to tell me I was rude and I would not get my car key unless I paid £118 for diagnostics
I reluctantly paid this as my hands were tied, and then went and collected my car
So for three days, no work done to my car I paid a total of £343
Horrific customer service

At the time of booking, when I googled this garage, I noticed that their reviews were 3.8 and 3.4 on trust pilot
A lesson to be learnt here, always read the reviews….!!

Great company

Due to my normal garage being fully booked and being sceptical of going elsewhere, i came across this company and i was very impressed with all aspects of my experience here. From how quick they found out what the problem was to having it fixed and the total cost of repair ill definitely be doing my business here a lot more in the future. A very satisfied customer

Please don’t use i took my Vw t5 2.5…

Please don’t use i took my Vw t5 2.5 hear to have the camshafts replacement. I had a new Vw cam and all the parts that I still have the recipe for from TPS. So the van went in and I was giving a loan vehicle it had a damaged clutch pedal. I did point this out to them and was told it’s ok so I thought ok and left when arriving home a distance of about 6 miles something was telling me to check the van to see if it was taxed and mot and I found out it had no insurance so I called and asked them. To make sure I was safe driving it but instead I was told how dare I check it up and then apparently all my parts where wrong. Then I had a call from the owner wife who told me to bring there van back and I would need to pay £580. Then about 1 hours later I got a call from David the owner and said I must pay £1800 to get my van back-pedal it would be sold. I took there van back to them on the way the clutch pedal broke so we stoped at the side of the road and we got a lift to the garage and told them what happened we stayed at the garage as they went to recover the van they got it back and then accuse me of damaging there van and I was told my have back I would need to pay £1800 to replace the engine in there van I walked in to the garage to get my van I got into it and the main garage shutter was closed and I was locked in and told I am not leaving until I pay £1800 to replace there engine in there van the police where called and I was finally let go they did no work to my vehicle and I will be taking them to court avoid at all cost

Poor workmanship

My car recently broke down and whilst being repaired it was clear that the cause of the breakdown was poor quality work previously completed by Independent Car & Van Specialists. Loose bolts, radiator hose clip in the wrong position so was ineffective, reverse sensor switch left disconnected and more. I'd already decided not to use this company again after they tried to fix another car of mine, made a mess of it and scratched the paint. Now it's clear to me that they just don't have the skills to do the job properly or the right attitude to do it well. AVOID THIS COMPANY IS MY ADVICE. Pay the extra, go to the main dealer and get guaranteed work by skilled mechanics. Or do it yourself - you are as skilled as anyone in this company!
