My wife and I are a retired couple living on our social security and my veterans disability payments. In other words, not a whole lot of money but enough for us since we are careful. With our income we decided to use H &R Block because we just needed the very basic services and we were hoping for a reasonable fee. On TV they advertised “$150, or less” despite the number of W2’s ((I believe that’s the correct form name). Our return was just about as easy as they get, no extra investments or properties, businesses or debts etc. It ended up just being the short form! It took the preparer about 20 minutes to complete the entire thing. When she was done she presented us with a bill for $244!!. For a short form! Had we known we might have been able to do it ourselves. I had a fit. I asked her about the TV ad, she had no comment. This is bait and switch at its most blatant. Shame on me for not asking about the cost up front and assuming the advertised price was what they would actually charge-especially for such a simple return. Word to the wise. Ask about charges early. If your return is simple do it yourself or seek help through community services, especially if you are seniors or have special needs. Next tax season that’s exactly what we’ll be doing.

H & R block, specifically Karen Rogers is an absolute mess of a disaster not only did she put my status in wrong but also completely missed two w-2s and when I found this out and called in to have her correct said information she said she could drive but it wouldn't even be looked at till sometime next tax season so I should just take my completed status and be happy I would absolutely not recommend this company to anyone and they were about $200 higher than three other places I had found unfortunately afterwards

Has to be the most useless app and company around. All these false ways to "easily" import your documents only to be met with endless error messages saying they cant retrieve any of the info and you just have to manually input everything. Good luck closing or minimizing the app cause there's a good chance it will just log you out and make you redo everything you've already done. H&R is a proper scam of a business and you should avoid using them by any means necessary.

I do my own taxes and I still have to pay $150 to use the software and to get my money I worked hard for all year?! Enticed with a $45 discount, citing no promo needed, and then I sign in and there is only a $5 early bird discount. Tf? I chat with customer service to no avail. None of the promo codes online work. Just predatory by design. Shut down already.

Tried using the H&R Block software to file jointly for the first time. It came up with some outrageous tax owed number. Tried for hours to correct it. Decided to try Turbo Tax instead and we got a large refund instead. DO NOT USE THIS SOFTWARE! Something is definitely wrong in their calculations.

Unreliable, expensive, unacceptable excuses, incompetent. My "tax pro" (Sandra Molas, Doylestown and Willow Grove offices) disappeared on me twice and I had to track her down. She did not recall that she promised to complete my return within a few days after having made a rookie error by not reviewing the return that she did for me last year. Her excuse was that limitations in corporate and/or office rules prevented her from finding the time to get my return done (what does that even mean?). I contacted the office manager and corporate for help but never got a response (I was told the office manager was in the bathroom and asked to call back some other time, no offer to take a message!). Without any communication, they then transferred my file to a different tax pro at an office that is an hour from where I live. I was advised that my tax pro (Sandra) was too busy to get my return done. I now have absolutely no confidence that my return will be done accurately.

They talked me n to getting refund on emerald card thinking it would come faster, jus the opposite, they should’ve known that by me switching from my back account to the card I would have to identify myself which caused a month delay, employees must get a commission for pushing the card then I couldn’t get my $ off the card, they said I could get $3000 a day from atm, only a thousand, they said go into a bank and get the funds couldn’t do that cuz my name wasn’t on the card, if it wasn’t for Apple Pay my $ would still b on the card, NEVER AGAIN, THEY TOTALLY SUCK, LANSING IL, LIARS

I completed a review of my tax prep. The Pro I paid $55 for completed a review also. Everything was fine. So I signed the forms on line and when It came to my Spouse's signature it skipped to completing signutures by downloading froms for signature and then uploading by secure messenger. However, no link was provided to upload. After 31 minutes with a customer support person I was given a case number and told to wait for the Pro I paid for and sent message to over 24 hours ago. The cust support person couldn't figure the problem out either. Ive used other on line software for the past 10 years virtually without a hitch, no problem. This is very upsetting and disappointing. In fact I have attempted to review the entire filing to see if I missed the signature for Spouse and the system will not allow me to review my completed tax forms. Based on this experience I will not recommend H&R Block to anyone for on line filing. Their own cust. support could not figure the problem out.

HR Block Software Premium gives error msg that it is unable to file the return because it cant calculate the QBI Carryforward, and that I must wait for a future update, before I can file. The website and software incorrectly report that all forms are complete and accurate. The call center staff are unable to provide a date when the form issue will be fixed. I'm left in limbo and suspect I will need to change to different software to file the return.

3 years in a roll H&R Block system updates fails to file business taxes. First it was Federal filing in 2023, then again Federal filing failed again in 2024. In 2025 it was State filing. How can your system updates fails customers three years in a roll and claim to be a leader in tax filing. It’s not the tax preparers it’s H&R Block corporate. They suck whoever is running the IT Architecture. Ended up mailing my 2025 State filing to avoid delay penalty. Next year am gonna try another Tax filer. Tied of these system update issues with H&R Block. They seem not to care about the customer. Avoid H&R Block for f you can….They are TERRIBLE!!!

Horrible experience with Zero help from Corporate.
The lady did my taxes wrong and now I didnt get the return I was supposed to and they literally said sorry and good luck... WTF!!!

This review is for the downloadable version of HR Block's 2026 Premium and Business software. As background, I have been using HR Block's software (originally TaxCut) for >20 years and generally been satisfied. However, this year, I discovered it making errors in transcription of information from one form to another when filling in required information on new forms. Example is filling in Form 1116 Line 18 with required information from Form 1040 (ie Line 18(in most cases including mine) should be Taxable Income = AGI - (Std) deduction ). Instead, the program simple transfers the AGI. The result is a horribly inflated calculation of tax.
Block customer service informed me this was a known problem and would be fixed in update scheduled for release 3 weeks later (mid-March). It was not. That tax preparation software is making logical transcription errors for forms that have not changed in years is unforgivable. So ...USER BEWARE, the Block software will fill in the numbers for your tax return, but it is up to you to know the tax code and go over each line carefully and verify that the numbers have been correctly calculated and transferred from one form to the next.

One of the fields is calculating wrong which is no surprise for this software. Still waiting for returned phone call from yesterday after I held on for a hour, chatted with the bot which is useless…I mean what the heck can a bot tell you about the tax software calculations.

H&R Block did not live up to their reputation when I filed my returns for 2024. I went on line did the extra fee to have someone online to help me. When I was finished I signed my returns Fed & state, now the IRS just sent me a letter saying I did not file my taxes. So the lady that has always did my taxes did them for me and saw were H&R Block did not do their job with my taxes. I paid them to have the extra help and still it was nit right.

FTC is unequivocally correct about H&R Block using bait and switch tactics. I received an email for $28 to file my taxes, a discount from the $35 I paid last year. The website is very difficult to navigate, even for the people working there, most have no idea. I finally made it through and realized I mistakenly left out a 1099. They tried to charge me $100 I erased all my information and went to TAX FREE USA! 100 times better, easy to navigate, efficient and accurate.

horrible customer service, horrible website, horrible 'return', horrible login, outright horrid.

I was hoping it may be as good or better than TurboTax, but:
1. It is clunky and counterintuitive.
2. Does not import tax forms from financial institutions - requires manual entry of data.
3. Impossible to get the promised money back after less than a week after purchase from NewEgg.
Bottom line: Stinker!

I got my taxes done today at the Biddeford, Maine office with Jenna Davis. She went above and beyond my expectations and did a super job helping me work through submitting my taxes to the IRS. She was not only quick and efficient, but also friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend requesting Jenna for any of your tax needs through H&R Block. Her customer service skills are on point! Thank you, Jenna, for makkng what is usually a drab experience into something I left today being happy and grateful for having you to prep and submit my taxes this year!

Used H&R Block in Gallatin, TN. Was very disappointed in their general price quote they quoted me up front. Actual charge was twice as much as they quoted me. Will not use them again and don’t recommend them to anyone.

most difficult software I have ever user and have been doing my own taxes for decades. Would not import financial date from Merrill Lynch edge Brokerage, not even in the list. Very difficult to use, never again.
