H&R Block's software was modified from 2024 to charge for free tax preparation. It forces one to pay for the Deluxe version after completing all of the tax info. People on Reddit have experienced the same scam.

The federal portion of the program works fine. The state portion is trash if you have anything but the simplest of returns. The AI is also garbage. I asked it a question about state solar taxes and it asked me if the children (presumably my solar panels) had social security numbers. I contacted the actual customer support who then referred me to the IRS and told me I must have input something wrong. Turns out I input it correctly, their software had an error in it. But they just didn't care enough to acknowledge that possibility never mind correct it.

We thought the So called expert H& R block tax preparer submitted & completed our taxes back in February we our now in April, I found out it because we gave h& r block our bank information to do a bank withdrawal to pay what we owe, it never got processed on the date we agreed, I went into h& r block got the run around by a Martin, FROM COPPERS COVE LOCATION he said get your 1095 from market place, I did he said I will be here, lied he wasn't , talked to 2 different people 4 days later finally getting it done, never will I go back we will pay more and just go TO A ACCOUNTANT SPECIALIST, I DO NOT RECOMMEND H& R BLOCK AT ALL. THE 2 LADIES THAT HELPED OUT OF THE LAMPASAS LOCATION THEIR NAMES ARE ELAINE & TRACY NEED TO GET PAID MORE MONEY YOU CHEAP CEOS FROM H& R BLOCK

The Federal Government Consumer agency must investigate these outright scammers. Listen, I often look at bad reviews and think hey it's just a negative person hating, but let me tell you they legitimately are so incompetent and their website has so few features I will spend 30 more hours filing my taxes this year, so just save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. I cant believe this is a billion dollar accounting/tax company, they are so bad at what they do. Their website has 3 freaking buttons, if your actions dont align with those 3 you are screwed.

Software won't download Fidelity info. No help from customer service. Will not use again.

Purchased Premium and Business 2025. box said works on windows 10 or higher. Did not work on windows 10.
Chat tech support indicated windows 11 required.
Purchased windows 11 machine. Install did not include .net components thus it too failed. Spent more hours troubleshooting a failed program. Added sdk finally the application would run. However, now in order to transfer files from 2024 i need to install the prior year software. Poorly implemented software. Multiple misrepresentations regarding windows 10 operation.
You will need to be technically inclined or spend hours with tech support just to get it operational.

I've been using HR Block software to prepare and e-file my returns for several years. Never had a problem. This time, I had to file a form reporting income from a Trust distribution I received in 2025. I got all the way through the program, and when I got to the e-file step, the program said that it could not e-file that particular form, PA Schedule J, and that I'd have to mail in my PA state return. The PA Schedule J is a VERY simple form and is no different from other income reporting forms. I contacted online support, and they could not explain what the problem is, except to say basically that if the program says it can't e-file that form, then that's all there is to it.. so I had to print out over 70 pages of 1099's, Schedules, etc. and mail them in because HR Block says it can't e-file this one simple form. Goodbye, HR Block. I'll be using your competitor's software next time around.

I have been trying to file my taxes for about 2 days, I have to keep coming back because its taking too long to do. It has been on the same screen "saving" for over a day. Absolutely horrible product

Ridiculously expensive with an incredible number of hidden fees. The person who filed my returns kept making mistakes that I had to fix for her.

Software has major glitch with income that is classified as a “medicare waiver”for non taxable income whereby you can not e-file yiur return!
I checked with the IRS and there is no rule from them stating you can not e-file!
Let’s see if they actually will refund my money for a glitched software! Waste of my time. Next year going back to TurboTax!

For years I have always done my own tax work using TurboTax. When I received their promotion for the " expert" I thought I would give it a try. What a MISTAKE!
I have spent a week getting nowhere. My expert told me that I could not reivew my tax forms because of a " glitch." He told me this more than once. I said I was ot comfortable not being able to review the forms. Then I discovered days later that you can not view the actual forms until you pay for the service. It is not due to a " glitch" in the system. Then the advisor did not show up at the time we agreed uppn. Then, this morning I got a call tellng me this was the last day to take advantage of the service. I told the person up the history and she said someone would call me today. I waited all day and never received a call!!!!!!!! I have never dealth with such an awful company, and have waisted hours and hours on this "special promotin.

After paying for PREMIUM service...and finishing return, when I went to access the tax return to print it say I could not access since I only used the free version....while I have a receipt in my email for 161.00!

I called 2 seperate support people and one said I only had free version ( and it shows on the website under my account "PREMIUM" ...so I called again, and she wanted my social security number! NOPE! Surely H&R block has another way to look into my account! Are you kidding me? Nobody can help you!!!! DO NOT DO THIS! I WASTED 3 HOURS...I could have went and got taxes done DOES NOT SAVE TIME AND IS A HASSLE! RUN AWAY FROM THIS

Extremely poor experience. Even after consistent follow-ups for two months, there was no proper discussion or review of my tax numbers. My taxes were filed without my approval, leaving me with a significant and unexpected tax liability. They also took payment upfront and promised additional support and services, but none of that was delivered. This is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I would not recommend H&R Block or Maritza.

Whatever you do, do not let Alicia Bailey do your taxes. Unless you have a year and a half to get her mess straightened out. She will ghost you when you try to call her and have her figure out where she messed up..

I usually charge for HR block $350 for 1099 and schedule C now I bring my tax form fidelity i have only $3700 and my capital gain was $655 about 2 1/2 year i sold $135 in share but this people charge me $350 for 1099 and $300 for fidelity tax form only download, I find a FREETAXUSA you can make free $0 charge HR block have terrible reputation they are the side IRS never client

I tried filing online, and it has been a hassle at every step. 10 plus phone calls to correct mistakes. Their tax pro had my taxes wrong so i had to reject them twice. Decided to go to a local office that had nothing to do with h and r block to escape the crapshoot.

Oh and for 2025 they deleted my prior year asset manager which means no depreciation schedule updates for my taxes and they couldn't locate my main account i use to file taxes. They said theres nothing they could do but tell me to go get transcripts, which was not necessary.

Also, make sure they issue you the FULL refund and not a partial refund like they did for me. It will require additional calls oh a 1+ hrs. They made mistakes on my refund for what i paid them to help file my taxes.

Their customer service is incompetent in every department it seems, friendly people but clueless, my tax pro made multiple mistakes on my taxes, I asked for corrections and still made mistakes, their head quarters responses do not work to resolve issues in my experience, they had a $7 mil lawsuit last year, I could go on and on. Stay away from this company! I've also been treated rudely in person at a local h and r tax office and they wanted big money, same issue with a friend of mine at another h and r tax office.

I wouldn’t recommend seeing Clarence at the Ames location. Things seemed great at first. He was friendly acted like he knew what he was doing.. he took the routing number directly of my boyfriends phone and typed it wrong and did not confirm it before entering. Flash forward to today when he is supposed to receive his refund and it’s not their d/t Clarence’s negligence to his job. He tried to turn it around and act like it wasn’t his fault. Made up a BS story about how his taxes were rejected because someone tried to claim him on taxes and that’s why his money isn’t in yet but then said it should be here in 21 days. It’s disappointing to pay good money and not receive the best care. I will not recommend H&R Block to a single person.

If I could leave a zero star instead of a 1, I would. In 26 years of filing I have never received such terrible service, bad tax advice, and had so many issues. H&R messed up my taxes, not once, but twice, in the same filing year. I will lucky to receive my return before August, despite filing in the beginning of February. They would not even give partial compensation.despite their accuracy guarantee. You are better off using literally ANY OTHER tax service.

What went right, that list is shorter...nothing. Where did the save button go? In the past you put in the activation code, the software went out and updated itself. When that was done you can start your return. Not this time. I don't know if it updated or not. The download feature doesn't work, prepare to put everything in manually. Welcome back to 1983. Does it save what you put in, sometimes yes sometimes no. Yeah, you're putting in the info 2...3...4 times and hope it saves. Where is the spot for the activation code....at the very end. And surprise surprise it doesn't work. Chat (for over an hour) was pretty much worthless. I paid for the same GARBAGE software twice. I can make more money, my time is valuable. Stay away from H&R Block. Use anything but this crap.

Software has no place to import NEEDED signed IRS forms, so you have to print and mail which increases chances of an audit. The stores use a different software, so they are USELESS and the 800 # is as useful as boots on a rooster. STAY AWAY from H&R!!!
