Fantastic customer service from Simon and Ben

We changed letting agents after 6 weeks as we had not been found any suitable tenants and we were always chasing for an update. We registered with Gascoign & Pees in Godalming and spoke to Simon who was encouraging and informative. Within a week we had new tenants! Simon and Ben kept us informed every step of the way and were easily contactable if we had any questions. Nothing was too much trouble. The fees were very competitive. All in all fantastic service with good old customer service at the top of the list!

Unable to get deposit back

Hi All, Please very careful considerate rental any property in this letting agent unless they improved service. We had completed all professional clean after end of tenancy however the letting agent and management company refused to return all deposit amounts.

Excellent Sales Team

Right from the start we felt comfortable, the team were really friendly and knowledgeable. Jim Gordon in particular was very helpful and great to talk to, we couldn't have done it without him.
The photographer took stunning photos which really showed off the features of the house.
We decided to go with an open day, which was fully booked within 24 hours of advertising.
Of those who veiwed the house, more than half put in offers. The team did an excellent job of keeping us informed and guiding us through the process.
The house was SSTC within a week.
We had issues with the solicitors, Jim went above and beyond to help keep momentum to see us through to completion.
The fees were reasonable and competitive, especially given the level of service we recieved.
Overall, the Gascoigne-Pees Sales Team really do believe that fostering good relationships with their clients is the key to success, making the time and effort to put them first, keep them at ease during one of the most stressful processes, and always giving the best advice.

This letting agent is shocking

This letting agent is shocking. Signed a 12 month contract but had to leave early. Our cars were targeted and my boyfriends had to be written off. Had issues with the flat, which were never sorted, despite me chasing numerous times. Now landlord is trying to charge me £975 for leaving early, when we almost had no choice but to leave. My car was being targeted very frequently. Spoke to a Lady on the phone from G and P and she was so rude. Made me feel like I was the problem.

Very helpful with advice

After purchasing our property with the help of GP Basingstoke in 2014, which went very smoothly, I recently had a couple of issues so asked Nic Austen in the branch for help. He spent a good 30 minutes on the phone with me and then suggested I drop in the office so we could compare notes. He was really helpful and generous with his time, and spread some light on my situation.

Experience as a Landlord. AVOID!

Experience as a landlord. Not sure what has happened over the years at the Basingstoke office, it used to be okay. I used to let 4 properties with them, but have withdrawn all properties from last month as the service is awful. The staff seem to have a degree in extremely poor customer service, with the lack of communication being their speciality. Taking the one review here that relates to GP property sales aside, every review here is 1 star. Why does this not ring alarm bells with senior management? To top it all, I now have a tenant having trouble getting their deposit back (from 3rd party company appointed by GP), and GP are being less than helpful getting it returned.

Terrible experiance

Terrible experiance
Saw property pre launch
Put full asking offer in at the time then told its going online for a while
No EPC given said they would forward once it was in they didnt!
No follow up calls thereafter
10 days later Phoned in to see how things doing & if they had the EPc! agent dealing with me was off for the day said he will call me in the morning.
Didnt get a call till late next day afternoon saying sold to the other intrested party. (I only learnt there was one other by making my call)
No pre call to see if l was Prepared to up my offer. Feel having put full asking offer forward l had a valid intrest to be informed of its progress before putting forward their offers to seller.
Shocking customer care

Unable to get deposit back!

This is a nightmare situation, if l could give zero stars l would. My ex partner died in his flat, been trying for months to get my deposit back from them, ring ring, speak to people and nothing happens. Now writing letters, will go all the way. Awful customer service.

Poor Experience As a Renter

I recently rented a flat in Basingstoke, through the Farnham office (I know it doesn't make sense?). It was an old building converted into 4 new flats. When I was handed over the keys on 30th June I was actually looking forward to moving in.

However the flat was dirty as were the windows inside and out. The lights did not work in all of the flat apart from the hall. Most of the sash windows could not be opened. To be fair these initial issues were fixed within 3 days the flat should never have been handed over in this state.

There was two large bins at the property filled with building waste and garden waste. No proper provision was made for proper bins that tenants can use and that can be emptied weekly.

I tried to register for Gas and Electricity supply to the property without success, as the Gas meters that had been fitted could not be traced on the "National Database" On 14th June Southern Gas Networks (Distributor) visited the building and cut all gas to the building as they said the meters had been put in illegally.

To be fair again, Gascoigne-Pees did clarify within 24 hours that this should not have happened and that the gas would be reconnected.

So no hot water and no gas to cook on for nearly a week! And still no idea WHEN the gas will be reconnected??

I have been in the flat for nearly a month and still no bin provision and no idea when this issue will be resolved.

I signed the Tenancy agreement online (via verisign) and did not receive a signed copy from the Landlord. An issue that I raised as the contract is NOT legally binding until both parties have signed and each party has a signed copy.

So I was given a paper copy to sign and send to Gascoigne-Pees in the post, which I did. Still don't have a copy signed by both parties though!

There is only 2 flats occupied in the building (including me) and two lots of tenants to move in. So the bin issue is going to get worse unless Gascoigne-Pees and the Landlord can actually take ownership and resolve the issue.

The lettings team at the Farnham office do reply to emails and let me know things are in hand etc, they do communicate the problem is NOTHING HAPPENS!

This laughable saga is a good example of HOW NOT TO RENT A FLAT. And they expect me to pay my rent on time for this shambles?!!!

Disgusting flat, substantial costs due to failings and misrepresentation

On our move in day it was discovered that the property was not as advertised. It has been a nightmare since and we have incurred heavy losses as a direct result.

Broken boiler
Broken cooker
Broken dishwasher
No fire alarms
No valid gas safety check
No heating or hot water
No cleaning undertaken
Black mould throughout
Brown speckled mould throughout
Signs off water ingress in numerous areas
Damp walls in areas
Smell of mould and damp causing cough
Unusable showers x2
Broken front door lock
No postbox key
No evidence of parking spot listed on tenancy agreement

No attempt has been made to repay the costs we suffered, nor has anyone apologised for ruining the lives of two disabled tenants. Absolutely appalling.

Nothing is not enough trouble.

Nothing is not enough trouble to Gascoige Pees they positively revel in finding problems. From day one to the end of the tenancy. They contract out various services so they can always distance themselves and deflect blame. They even refunded the tenant his deposit despite damage to the flat costing over £1,000 to rectify.

Terrible experience

Terrible experience. Even after paying each monthly rent bang on time and spending £600 on professional cleaning, deposit not returned on time and with other spurious deductions. I had to continually chase every step of the way and generally company always fell short of expectations. Bitter experience.

I found a house to rent through…

I found a house to rent through Gascoigne and pees in Basingstoke. Never rented before, signed the tenancy, set up all the bills, gave notice on storage unit, booked Van etc, I got a phone call a week before saying the current tenants are refusing to leave. Whilst I get this is not the lettings agents fault and I was pretty understanding it was the aftercare, was told I would need to find somewhere else, when I asked if they had anymore properties I was told no, then I went on to explain I had sent another enquiry about a house that they were advertising over the weekend, I was told what do you want me to do about it as it’s not ready until mid November, as they didn’t even bother to ask if I had anywhere to go that was totally irrelevant. I asked them about all the expense I had laid out, buying things for the house, removal van etc, my storage unit doubling but all I got was nothing we can do. I felt very let down and felt there was no support at all. If I broke the tenancy then everything would have been thrown at me.

Worst property managers EVER

25th August, 2021: Apart from not providing necessary maintenance in a timely fashion to the property due to a leaking roof, which led to a much more expensive fix for the property owner, when my son moved out they made no attempt to pay him back his deposit or the overpaid advanced rent. Repeated attempts to obtain the money were met with stories and blaming everyone and everything other than returning the funds with promises to fix it, escalate it etc. After 5 months of giving us the runaround we ended up having to go through the Property Ombudsman to get it resolved. Update 16th September 2021: As of today, Gascoigne Pees are offering to short pay the advanced rent and have told the Ombudsman that the deposit has been returned, which it hasn't. This company employs liars, cheats and the morally & ethically bankrupt. Don't use them either as property managers or as landlords. Update, 12th October 2021 – Gascoigne Pees have still not returned the deposit and short paid (less than 50%) the advanced rent with no explanation. They have lied to the Ombudsman and are still ignoring their legal responsibilities. There is currently no resolution in site…
Update: January 2nd 2022 - The Property Ombudsman is about to decide on the arbitration, but Gascoigne Pees still owe over £1,000 and don't even seem to recognize that they owe anything. Unbelievable - we'll see how this ends up now that GP has provided TPO with their "Final Position" statement, which admits failures in dealing with the situation, but still doesn't account for the missing funds.

No apologies over mishandling to manage property

We used Gascoigne Pees to let our property. They insisted newly arriving immigrants whom we had great doubt as tenants but they ensured they would fit.

It was totally wrong. They lacked common sense on how to maintain the house whilst Gascoigne Pees did nothing to assist as a property management firm.

Numerous lost in translation moments and mismanagement led the tenants to break the agreement 3 months earlier than original and caused financial loss to us.

They never acknowledged their wrong doing or provided proper apologies. We will never ever use or recommend Gascoigne Pees.
