Enercare frustration
In my experience with Enercare at times it feels like its a scam. I'm constantly checking to make sure i actually called Enercare and not someone impersonating them. But that's just Enercare.
Enercare is trying to collect money from my mother who died in 2022. The services they suggest that have not been paid were billed to her 2 years after she died and 3 years after the house where she had Enercare was sold.
The furnace they suggest they have been servicing, under one of their protection plans, does not exist.
I've called them 5 times only to endure more and more anger and frustration each time i call. I just can't get anyone to fix it.
I've also sent them a death certificate.
They persisted with calling my wife, calling me, sending collection notices. It feels like harassment. I'm contemplating going to the media about it.
Under no circumstances should you give Enercare any of your personal information. This is a company that should be investigated for their business practices.
Best,
David
Anthony and his partner
Anthony and his partner came on New Years day to change my water tank because I had no hot water. I was so impressed on how quickly it all happened. He explained what he did and told me how to take care of it. The fact that he came on a statutory holiday impressed me the most. Job well done.
Furnace gas valve replacement
My furnace needed a new gas valve and the technition from Enbridge (Nolan Campell) was simply amazing. He was kind, curious and extremely knowlegeable, not hesitating to expain the issue and what he was doing to correct it. He was thorough and I will be requesting him again if I need assistance from Enbridge.
Unacceptable service during a winter emergency
My furnace stopped working during extreme winter conditions in Ontario (around -30°C). Enercare came 4 days ago and confirmed a part was needed. After that, everything went downhill.
For three days, I called repeatedly, waiting over an hour on hold each time, only to be told they were “working on sending the part.” No updates, no urgency, no solution. As a result, my home had no heat for three nights in the middle of winter.
I run an Airbnb, with two families staying at the property. One family had a guest with a serious medical condition and was forced to leave due to unsafe temperatures. I had to pay $1,500 in compensation. My own family and remaining guests were left freezing while waiting for Enercare to act.
When the part finally arrived after three nights, Enercare then told me there were no installation appointments until the next day, meaning another night without heat.
This is exactly why people choose Enercare — for emergencies — yet they completely failed. Paying monthly for this service provided no peace of mind, only stress and financial loss. If I hadn’t been locked into Enercare, I could have hired an independent HVAC company and fixed this much faster.
Strongly do not recommend Enercare.
An Appreciation Note to Excellent Service Provided by Enercare Technician Mr. Mohammed Wasay
An Appreciation Note to Excellent Service Provided by Enercare Technician Mr. Mohammed Wasay
I got an alert message on my ECOBEE thermostat saying there might be a problem with my furnace/boiler heating and the room temperature was not able to go up to my pre-set temperature and there was simply no heat coming out from vent at all. I immediately logged on to my Enercare account and was able to book an appointment next day.
I am very impressed by the dedicated, professional, excellent and knowledgeable service provided by the technician Mr. Mohammed Wasay. Today, we are experiencing a major snow storm and was told to likely get up to 25-35 cm of snow. Mr. Wasay came within the appointment window dispute the snowy weather and difficult road conditions. He listened to my concerns very carefully then he explained to me very clearly of the potential problems. He carefully checked everything and ensuring the problem is fixed and all my concerns and questions were answered.
I am truly gratefully in choosing Enercare as my service provider for my entire house to ensure everything is good and running all year round. As there technicians are highly trained, professional and dedicated. Thank you!!

Dumbest Co.
Either this company is just plain stupid or they are scammers. I must have received from Enercare a dozen past due notices for over $200.00. We have no business with Enercare. we owe them nothing, we don't know who they are. Called them several time to correct, they then wanted to send a rep to check our house for their product. At first I refused, but then to get them off my back I agreed. The rep was amicable and confirmed we had none of their equipment. it wasn't over. They then called to continue to threaten us for payment. We hung up on them. We then received further notice of termination of services, well, have at it, we don't have their services. dumb, dumb and dumber.
Enercare - Brian James - Great technican
Over the past year, I made numerous attempts to resolve an issue with my humidifier through Enercare, but without success. Several technicians were unable to view or replicate the problem, which left me increasingly frustrated and my attempts to contact Enercare management to deal with issue were futile as no one returned my phone calls.
By chance, an Enercare technician, Brian James, was repairing the furnace at my rental property. I approached him about my ongoing issue and my frustration with the lack of progress and lack of response from Enercare management. Brian went above and beyond, he arranged for his supervisor to contact me and personally came to my home to fix the humidifier.
Brian is an exceptional technician who takes real pride in his work and genuinely cares about his customers. To be honest, he restored my confidence in Enercare at a time when I was seriously considering switching to another HVAC service provider.

What a disaster
Dealing with Enercare has been a complete disaster and disappointment. They installed the wrong equipment and trying to have it rectified has been a huge challenge. I receive no returned phone calls, no follow-up, no accountability. This company has no idea how to deal with customers, as also evidenced in the reviews.
I wish I can give them zero
I wish I can give them zero.
Since Sunday I had a problem with my tank that provides hot water. In this weather they let me wait three days every time they come they find an excuse to not work.
Imagine three days in this weather without hot water. Three days I could t go to work waiting for them. I don't find words to describe how they laugh at me letting me wait on the phone coming back to say sorry we cannot help you
Booking Appointment on line, does not work.
Enercare web prompts a billing amount of 125 for maintenance and or service, even if you have a contract, in a rental....don't use their web services. They are not interested in fixing this issue. Customer service does not understand the process and or how to handle this issue.
enercare is a scam company
enercare is a scam company. their hot water rentals are just a scam to trick the elderly into scam contracts. run away. all 1 star reviews. enercare is a scam.
I would not give Enercare any stars
I would not give Enercare any stars, I would give them a negative star rating.
I had the home furnace maintenance plan.
A Enercare service tech came to our Daughters home in St.Catharines for a yearly inspection(we own the home and our daughters live there). He told her that there was a crack in the heat exchanger and put a red tag on the furnace( the furnace had to be turned off) and a sales rep would be by tomorrow to talk about a new furnace.
I had to take a day off work, drive 2.5 hours to get to my daughters and brought space heaters with me. The next day, I had arranged for other furnace companies come by to give me a quote for a new furnace. I had two other companies come an test the furnace, this cost me $$. Both companies said that there was nothing wrong with my furnace and the last company looked after the red tag.
This potential scam of my daughter cost me a day's pay, 5 hours of driving, extra money for testing the furnace and lots of frustration.
Enercare wanted to sell me a new $7000 furnace for something what worked fine and is still working fine.
When dealing with customer service you are talking to Columbia..not even Canada..they don't care about what happened to you..ask you to submit a report and then you don't hear back from them, you call them, which takes hours to get a hold of the person and still nothing.
Do not use this company, they are scammers, they will see a young lady at the home and tell her that she needs a furnace.
Services of Enercare
On January 4, two mechanical staff members visited my home.
The first technician performed routine maintenance and provided excellent service. He recommended replacing the old thermostat with a new Wi-Fi thermostat due to poor efficiency and performance. He also booked an appointment the same day between 6:00–10:00 pm for the thermostat replacement. We were very happy with his work and professionalism.
However, the second technician who arrived in the evening at around 8:20 pm provided very poor service. When he arrived, he asked why we had called, as he did not know the reason for his visit. He then insisted that we pay $75 in labor charges, even though we have both a maintenance plan and a protection plan.
The technician who visited in the morning had already confirmed that the thermostat would be replaced free of charge. Additionally, in November, a sales representative also informed us that this service would be covered under the plan.
At that time, the outside temperature was -11°C, and the house was very cold due to the malfunctioning thermostat. My children and pets were affected by the cold conditions.
Due to this situation, I am seriously considering canceling the protection plan along with other services.
I strongly recommend everyone to not get any services from Enercare
If I could give them a zero I would
If I could give them a zero I would.
I moved out of my property in May 2024 and bought everything and had a buyout agreement completed, but now I’m getting harassed by collection people for a monthly charge almost two years later and no one seemed to know what the charge is for. When someone finally figured out it’s for a smart home protection plan ( for stuff I don’t own btw), I agreed to pay off whatever I owed to get rid of them and was told it will be cancelled. 3 months later I’m getting the same calls again and issue is still not resolved. Im beyond frustrated with them
Enercare Hot Water Tank Rental – Avoid This Company
EnerCareLess
We had been homeowners for over 40 years and had never experienced issues with hot water tanks until we became Enercare customers. In just 7 years, two Enercare rental tanks failed, including one that caused a basement flood and required an insurance claim. That alone should have raised serious concerns about the reliability of their equipment.
On July 23, 2025, our most recent rental tank started leaking. While I was dealing with water in my basement, I spent nearly two hours on the phone trying to arrange same-day service. Instead of urgency or support, the representative attempted to upsell me, which was incredibly inappropriate given the circumstances.
A technician eventually arrived late that night, confirmed the tank had failed, and I informed him we would be discontinuing our rental. When I asked him to drain the tank to prevent further leaking, he refused, claiming it wouldn’t leak since the water was shut off. By the next morning, the tank had leaked again and we were left draining it ourselves.
What made the situation worse was discovering that Enercare continued charging rental fees even after the tank failed. Buried in the fine print of the contract we signed years earlier was a clause stating that billing continues until the tank is physically returned. At no point during our cancellation calls was this mentioned.
Then came the most frustrating part: we were sent an $1,800 bill claiming the tank had not been returned. I called multiple times and was told the charge would be waived, and I even received a confirmation number. However, Enercare continued sending bills for $1,800+ with added late fees. They repeatedly claimed they had not received proof of return, despite the fact that I had sent their own return receipt form three separate times.
Enercare demonstrated a pattern of poor communication, unreliable equipment, and a system that appeared more focused on billing than on service or accountability.
After 34 days of repeated phone calls, documentation, and unnecessary stress, we finally received a letter confirming a $0 balance.
Based on our experience, we would not recommend renting equipment from Enercare. The frustration, lack of transparency, and inadequate service far outweighed any perceived convenience. Buying your own unit is a far better option than dealing with this company.

I consider Enercare as spam rather than…
I consider Enercare as spam rather than a real service.
For many years I have had an Enercare maintenance plan for Plummining, never using the service until my call last week. My kitchen drain was clogged, water was not draining, and I have an important dinner in the next 2 days. Enercare responded to this emergency with a next day appointment, I asked to try to schedule for the same day, they called back and confirmed the 5pm-9pm appointment the same day - no one came or informed about it. I called the next day, Enercare was not able to provide a reason why the appointment was not honored and gave me next week's appointment (5 days after), the manager declined to speak with me. Agent informed me that they have no manpower to support my request and they can provide $70 in credit for the next few months of the same service, they declined to support the cost of the plumber I would hire to attend to the emergency. Cost of the plumber - I found within seconds and who came in 2 hours as a local service via Google search was $450.
furnace not working
Waiting for a technician to fix my furnace after 5 failed attempts
Enercare does not honour agents commitments.
I have been a customer with Enercare for 34 years and decided to terminate my 27yr old water heater. I called, after looking at the buyout website 3 weeks ago, and it was a $25 payout to own the unit. I could not reach the cancellation dept so called the regular line, and was told they were away till Jan 5 and they would call me back then. Because of the age the agent told me I had a 0$ buyout and he would note it on my file. After not hearing all week, I called today and was told there were no notes on the buyout and it would be $100, or I could drop it off at their office in Toronto for N/C. I too could barely understand the agent I spoke with today and had to have her explain herself 3x on several occasions. I had a service call several years ago for no hot water and it took the agent 4 days to get there. I had one of their tanks fail and flood my basement and was told to call my insurance company. They replaced the tank but held no responsibility for the damage it caused. I can not recommend them. Buy your appliance and own it. 0 * for customer service.
