My car was wrecked. No communication what so ever. One day I logged onto my account only to that they sent a check to CAPITAL ONE without my knowledge or signature. He stated they didn’t need my signature or consent for anything regarding the process. He even laughed at me when I asked him to explain the total out process to me.

It was a horrible experience this past time around. I had been a loyal customer for five years, even on policies where I was not the owner of the contract. I had decided to drop off a policy owned by a family member when I received a quote for $505/month, which was great, considering my history, and my share of the previous premium had been much higher. When applying for this quote, I had selected that I was an existing customer. Two weeks later, I received an email stating that I did not qualify for the new customer discount and that my new rate was $587. I contacted absolutely awful customer service. They gave me wrong information as to what caused my increase, even claiming it was due to my bodily injury coverage, but they would not explain further. After contacting a different rep, I was given the real answer regarding the new customer discount. I stated that I was an existing customer and never claimed to be a new customer; that I was quoted wrong and deserved the rate that my quote initially said that I consented to. They told me there was nothing they could do for me. When I had additional questions, I was referred to the sales team, where I was yelled at by staff when I was trying to explain my situation and that I had been transferred to this department by customer service. I then decided I would find a new policy elsewhere. Found a deal that is over $100 less! I am now much happier with my insurance which I have switched and know I will be paying a much better rate and able to save money in this messed-up economy! So close to the holidays as well.

Simply a dreadful company. Sure they do offer a little lower price for people without a great driving record. Their website totally sucks and I paid every month prior to the due date, renewed the insurance paying early and they reported the car as uninsured to the state and the state revoked the registration even though my policy never came close to lapsing.

Terrible company, stay away! I paid for my policy in full and then a month later they charged me an additional $250 for coverages I did not request without communicating it. I only noticed my credit card statement. Also, terrible customer service.
We need to get the Texas insurance board involved. I have to be accountable to the Texas Board of Nursing. The difference is insurance companies take the bonus money while I work provide the best service I can to care for others and their loves

Since February 25, 2025! I am a night shift nurse but I have asked for messages to be left. I have been to the Waco office and the ladies there are so embarrassed that my adjuster can’t even give me a phone call. She was sitting at her desk on Microsoft Teams and told Ms. Linda that she was putting us on speaker. She immediately yelled back didn’t I just tell you I am busy with another client. I have sent pictures and videos of damage through texts and several emails! I’m so sorry to hear that you have been experiencing this issue also! There isn’t any excuse for bad service . They renewed my policy and I never received any notice from them that I would not be receiving anything
UNRELIABLE INSURANCE COMPANY
Direct Auto Insurance is hands down one of the most unethical and predatory insurance companies I’ve ever dealt with. They have a policy that no other insurer I’ve worked with enforces — they upcharge customers based on who they live with, not who actually drives the vehicle. It’s a dishonest and profit-driven tactic that punishes paying customers for things completely unrelated to their driving risk.
What makes it worse is how they intentionally delay taking action when you try to provide the documentation they request. They give the impression that if you do your part, your policy will be corrected — but it absolutely won’t. They drag their feet, avoid processing requests, and make the situation worse.
Customer service is just as bad. When I tried to escalate the issue to a manager, I was flat-out denied, even though Direct Auto was attempting to add hundreds of dollars to my monthly payment. Refusing escalation when people’s real financial situations are at stake is unacceptable and unprofessional.
This company plays with people’s lives and budgets for profit, and the lack of transparency, accountability, and basic ethics is alarming. I would not recommend Direct Auto Insurance to anyone who wants fair treatment or honest business practices.

Horrible company, they took out an extra payment, couldnt tell me why, and then refused to refund me the money. Charged me $28.00 more a month that I was quoted, cant tell me why again. This place is nothing but a theft ring using a insurance company front. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!

Logging in Direct Auto never worked eventhough my user id and password were correct.
When I requested to reset password, the code was never sent.
They never answered their phones.
Finally, I couldn't renew my insurance and it was expired. Now I'm looking for another insurance company.

I'm so glad that when direct Auto called me today that Wendy was on the other end of the phone because she was very helpful very friendly she explained stuff to me and genuinely wanted to help me fix my problem and help me as much as she cud. She was reassuring, understandable assertive and compassionate and direct Auto needs more employees like Wendy to explain thanks to us and help us because we don't know what we're doing but that's her job and we needed it well today very well thank you Wendy for your help. Wendy at store number 1256 was a Godsend today thank you again.

This company will rob you if you terminate early. You can't talk to anyone about it and they will transfer you off to another agent if they can't complete the task which none of them are capable of. I just want to report my bad experience with Direct Auto Insurance, the parent insurance to National General Insurance.
I bought insurance for two cars and two drivers: my son and myself for a 6-month premium payment of $1721.00.
On 10/15/2025, I found out that my insurance was canceled on 10/01/2025. I called the insurance, and I was told that there are missing documents I need to submit to the insurance to be reinstated. I provided the required documents (a photocopy of my son’s driver license and proof of previous insurance); however, I still can’t have my insurance reinstated unless I pay $1441.00 extra because they claimed that they had sent me an e-mail asking for those documents and that the deadline of 45 days has passed. I am a refugee, and I don’t speak English, they may have sent such request, but my brother couldn’t find such request in my e-mail. Even if their policy is 45 days, this is not a GOD sent order, but rather it is a human policy that can be broken according to customers and their excuses. The bottom line is that I requested that my complaint be escalated to the boss to make a solution either to return half of the $1721 for the time that is left after canceling the insurance or reinstating the insurance for the rest of the 6-month contract. The company refused either of these solutions. This is a rip-off and steal from customers. Now, I don’t want any return. May he spend it on his health and his family’s health. I only want everyone to know my ordeal with this thief company.
Everybody, be aware of this rip off, never purchase insurance online.

Direct Auto Insurance lies about payment.
My granddaughter had a car insurance policy with Direct Auto Insurance, and she was involved in a car accident. She was not at fault, and the other driver who was at fault, had Allstate insurance. At the time we were unaware that Direct Auto was Allstate's little brother, but it now makes sense by her unfair treatment. She had her car repaired at a Direct Auto recommended repair shop. A few days before the repairs were complete the repair shop informed her that a $345.69 supplemental check from Direct Auto Insurance would be sent to her home address. Direct Auto confirmed the check was sent, but it did not arrive before repairs were completed so she Paid the $345.69 upfront. The first few weeks after the repairs she contacted Direct about the check and they would tell her it was sent to her address. After a month when she called, they started mocking her with laughter saying they didn’t owe her any money. This is plain and simple white-collar robbery on a young lady just starting out in life. It’s a shame at such a young age she must experience such pure corporate thuggery. “Hey Direct Auto Insurance of Fort Lauderdale, you know that you owe a young lady with the initials NH a $345.69 supplemental check”. Her car was repaired by ACC in Margate around Sept 5th. Poor young lady is learning sometimes you lose $$$ when you do business with unscrupulous companies.

Avoid Direct Auto
My son got his first policy with Direct Auto, and it was a nightmare. They added everyone in our household to his policy, even though each person had their own insurance. After he sent proof, they claimed they didn’t get it and doubled his rate to $640/month. Even after resubmitting, they refused to lower it. When he canceled and switched to Progressive (who never asked about household members), Direct Auto charged him $1,300 for early cancellation. I spent hours on the phone, and one rep even said he’d have been better off letting it lapse. Save yourself the stress—don’t use Direct Auto.
They quoted me 113 down and 121 a month…
Rude! Rude people! I think they hate their own company because they are very poor representation of the company that pays them. They quoted me 113 down and 121 a month but they said to contact an agent directly for more information. I called the number provided and The agent told me my quote is is now 300 down and 300 a month. She would not tell me why just that it is because I LIED on question 10 on the quote therefore my rates tripled. She absolutely refused to tell me what question 10 was. I could not look it up myself. when I asked her why she could not tell me, she then said I was berating and harassing her. and just flat out kept repeating herself it is because I lied on question 10 and if you don't like your new rates you should keep your policy with Progessive and she hung up on me. I called and got a different rep and asked what about question 10 made my rates triple and needed a supervisor but he hung up on me.
Then I got a new rep and explained everything and was actually nice enough to tell me what question 10 was then get a supervisor.
ps question 10 is whether or not the car is garaged. The question was misconstruing in itself and not as direct as “is your car garaged.” the question confused me into pressing yes. I park in a parking lot.
