This company forced me to pay insurance on one of my children who no longer lives with me. They wanted me to PROVE she does not live here. I was not able to speak to an agent but had to speak to whomever answered the line. I was overcharged and underinsured. When I finally cancelled my policy. I was once again ripped off and ended up paying for the full month even though I cancelled only 2 days after the coverage. I will NEVER do business with this company again.

Rip Off - Extremely Expensive - Clueless Agents
Like others have said, this is the absolute worst insurance company, if it’s even an insurance company. I called in for a quote, was kept on with an agent that gave me a decent price for a policy with two young drivers. The agent had issues with finalizing the process, realized they didn’t have his Illinois license active in their system. He kept me on for 30 more minutes,
couldn’t help and had to transfer me to another agent. New agent comes on, has to go through the entire process again and comes up with a price much higher, she has no clue why and claims it’s because the vin number was entered incorrectly. Total BS. I’m going to cancel before the bill cycle is over. They’ve never said anything about a cancellation charge or fee. I’m ready for the fight. They are extremely expensive and I’ve read nothing but terrible reviews from so many different sources.

This is the FN worse auto insurance company ever! Don’t walk away from them! Run! They lie and charge for everyone that lives in the house even if they are not driving your car and have their own car and insurance. I was told I could cancel my policy at anytime, then when I cancelled it, they sent a letter saying that I owe almost a $500 for a cancellation fee for the state of NC. Having had about 5 different auto insurance carriers for over 36 years of driving, I have never known any other auto insurance company to do this!

The customer service is BAD
The customer service is BAD. They will transfer you to the Spanish speaking menu just to keep from getting a bad review. They get "smart" with you. Thank God I have never had to file a claim. I could only imagine how I'd be treated.

Expensive. Expensive. Expensive. I switched to progressive and pay $130 for insurance a month, where as Direct charged $220 a month. Then, when I tried to cancel my coverage, they tagged on a $50 cancellation fee, and a balance for $193 as well, keep in mind in all of this, I own a 2008 Honda Civic, no financing, and one accident 3 years ago. Also a full time student. Highly do not recommend, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

I wouldn't recommend any one to get this insurance i was paying about $200 a month and had property protection and they still would not accept my claim or fix my car worst insurance I ever had go with any other insurance besides theses people look at all there bad ratings

This is one of the WORST insurance companies to get insurance from.They lie on the quotes then charge a bigger amount when the payments due.They take almost two months to begin to resolve a claim.You can never speak to anyone cause they are NEVER available AFTER you file the claim but ONLY then!They also charge you a cancelation fee to end your policy.

These people call me 20 times a day harassing me. They are terrible. People have no respect for my sleep. I asked him over and over and over a quick calling me, but they won’t stop listening to me. Don’t use this because they don’t have any respect for people and their privacy.

Got auto insurance at half price from another agency. Cancellated Direct Auto at the start of the curent month. Had Direct for years, didn't remember in their fine print thay have a cancellation fee.. They did not remind me of that, just gave me a suprise end of service bill. You can do better than Direct Auto Insurance.

The absolute WORST insurance company on God's green earth. Even if you have auto payments setup (which I have, the WHOLE TIME), they will randomly just stop taking your payments out, then wait until your coverage lapses , and THEN let your know that it is canceled and then charge you a completely INSANE amount of money (3x my premium, and this has happened TWICE NOW) to reinstate it. Each time I have gone in their useless app, made sure it was on auto pay and called their Indian support number to tell them to make SURE it is on auto pay this time. Each and every time "oh yes sir Mr hunta, it is on da autopsy, I see it rite here, you are all good Mr hunta, no worries buddi". Guess what, a few months go by and we are right back here again. I'm canceling their useless coverage before, God forbid, I ever actually need it for something. DO NOT USE DIRECT!!!!!! I can NOT stress this enough. Unless you want to get continually ripped off, over and over, and have zero recourse for it, then go for it. Otherwise, spend a few more dollars and deal with a real insurance company who's app works, who has US based support, and who aren't criminals. Trust me, you'll be FAR better off.

Worst ever. A tree fell on my truck and they did not want to pay anything because my daughter was not on our insurance. She doesn’t even drive yet no license. We pay all this money for insurance and get ripped off. Definitely switching to someone else.

Direct Auto is one of the worst insurance providers I’ve ever worked with. They do not offer any assistance there is no urgency you will be left either no solution. If I can make sure no one ever has my experience I will. Paid for insurance for over a year with this shitty company and took them over a month for a claim I filed that they actually didn’t solve. I had this insurance I could never get a hold of my agent Gordon. Either got his voice mail or he would email me over a week after. My vehicle was stolen and was not covered. So now I have a totaled car and payments I have to make on some thing I no longer have.

I purchased an auto policy (FL) from Direct Auto on 12/03/2025 and cancelled it a few days later at my request. I paid 170 USD and only received a 94 USD refund. The company did not provide a clear written breakdown of how they calculated this amount.
I tried to contact customer service multiple times to get an explanation and to file a complaint, but I was not able to reach anyone who could help me or provide a detailed statement. The communication and customer service have been extremely poor and frustrating.
Based on my experience, I do not recommend Direct Auto Insurance. Customers deserve transparency about fees, refunds, and a way to resolve issues when something is wrong.
